Nestor Aparicio 0:01
Welcome home. We are WNST AM 1570 Towson, Baltimore. We are Baltimore positive, positively getting in to the real heart of the second half of the baseball season. But suddenly, it’s football season around here. We’re gonna be doing the Maryland Crab Cake Tour next Friday, the 24th back at Pizza Johns, and what my mom would say Essex. We say Essex, like because we’re like British, like Kenny Koopa coming on the show this week. I will have the Maryland Treasure scratchers because I still have a handful of these left, but we’re about to do a segment with Seth Elkin, who’s about to communicate on behalf of the Maryland Lottery. Also, our friends at GBMC and Farnham and Derma getting us out. And by the way, Farnum and Dermer, I’m doing a big thing on air quality with Zach next week as well. I might even get him out to Essex for some Essex for some pizza, Pizza Johns. Seth is with us now, and not only did I send you a few texts from Philadelphia because I was in your home state of Pennsylvania as well as Luke Jones’s home state, even though he’s in New Jersey all week. And the All Star game, dude, I fist bump Paul Skeens. You know that’s pretty cool week for me. Went to the All Star game. I know you’re a baseball guy, but like baseball is so last week because like this is the big rollout. Like Ravens scratchhoss are here, even though it’s 103 outside. You’re about to tell me it’s football season, and you’re not even a Ravens fan, man.

Seth Elkin 1:20
Yeah, to say the least. I’m not a Ravens fan. As everybody on here knows, black and gold is what you get when you come in my office. But yeah, it was a little frustrating not to see the two pirates that were there get a chance to play. It would have been nice to see them get on the field. But but yes, we are unofficially into football season around here now because the Ravens scratch off tickets and second chance promotion for the the lottery 2026 have launched, and the two tickets are out. The Ravens times two with a top prize of $20,000 and then there’s the Ravens times 10, a $10 ticket that’s got a top prize of $200,000 But maybe bigger news is the second chance promotion because we love this promotion. The the way it gives Ravens fans access to prizes that you’re just not going to find anywhere else. A whole host of things that’ll be going on throughout the football season. Any of your Ravens scratch offs that are not winners, you can enter into my lottery rewards for a chance to win one of a number of things. Most notably, is the season tickets for 20 years. We’ll give that prize away after the season is over. Throughout the season, we’ll select six finalists for that prize. Each of the finalists gets $10,000 automatically. But then we have an event that we do with the Ravens after the season is over, where we reveal which one of them ends up with two decades worth of season tickets. So that’s always a great time and a highlight, certainly for us each year. One of the big second chance prizes that we give away, but lots and lots of others. There’s travel with the team to the game in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Nestor Aparicio 3:00
That’s breaking news. Ho ho ho! Martin didn’t wouldn’t go there with me last week, so he made me try to figure out where it was or wasn’t, and I did some deducing, and I didn’t know where you were. Charlotte is where where it is then,

Seth Elkin 3:15
huh? Yep, it’s the the the trip to play the Panthers in November. Remember, this

Nestor Aparicio 3:18
is the second year in a row, I guess. Wrong. God, I knew it wasn’t Rio. You know what I mean? Right. Like, and I was thinking it through. Man, I thought maybe Cincinnati. I didn’t know. I really didn’t know.

Seth Elkin 3:28
Yep, Charles. You can enter for that one. the The entry deadline to get in on the travel with the team is september 20. So yeah, lots of time. But we’ll do that drawing, and then that trip is in November, and that’s a really cool prize. Three winners and their guests will get a chance to go with the Ravens down to Charlotte to face the Panthers. So, in addition to that, plenty of other things. One that you may want to get in on quickly because you know the the the season the tickets just launched and we’ve got a really quick turnaround for the first drawing. There are going to be four winners of season ticket packages for 2026 for this year. You have a chance to win. You’ve got to enter by July 29th to have a chance at those season ticket packages for this season. There’s a real quick turnaround because we need to make sure we get get the winners and get them identified so that we can get you your tickets in time for the season. But that’s the first drawing that’s coming up. So july 29 you’ve got to enter by then in order to have a shot at maybe getting season season tickets for this year. So lots of other prizes involved in that second chance promotion. We’re always excited by that. A long partnership between the lottery and the Ravens that’s led to some really great opportunities for our players,

Nestor Aparicio 4:41
Roz. I’m sending you an email. I need some Ravens tickets. By the way, that I hold up the the ticket. I didn’t know what it looked like, so I can’t hold it up. Right, so I just shared it a minute ago because it is literally starting right here. This you know this weekend as the Orioles get going in Houston in the second half, and Luke will be back from vacation working hard next week and. I’ll have some All Star Game updates, other than fist bumping. Paul Skeens also fist bumped Adam Jones. I shook his hand and actually chatted with him, and we’ll talk about all of that. But the the kiss face bird is my favorite, and that’s on the $2 ticket. So you know the the straight face that the the alternate helmet or whatever that they’re doing, and they got new jerseys and this and that, new coach. They got all sorts. New center. They’re gonna have all sorts of new things going on with the Ravens, as well as a scratch off. And the this is, I bring this up every year, and I know you guys aren’t coming and sitting with me at Mako this year. I don’t think I’m broadcasting from Mako in a couple of weeks. I may or may not be at the beach. It’s still up in the air, and I know you guys aren’t coming down, but we talk about like in the annual scope of things. And now that sports wagering is involved, there’s a lot of money that’s going into the the fund for all the things that we do. But this is the biggest promotion you do every year, right? Like the Ravens ticket of all of the things you do, all the Pac Mans, all the spin wheels, all the all the all those the the Ravens is number one, correct?

Seth Elkin 6:01
It’s it’s it’s the one that I think people anticipate the most because everybody loves to anticipate the beginning of the football season. See, you’ll

Nestor Aparicio 6:08
sell a lot of these in next six weeks because people want to go to Charlotte. More people like throw their name into that basket. Like if this were a bull roast and we had the you get your little tickets, more people really want to be the percentage wise when you sell these tickets, people second chance that because we’ve made a big deal about it. It’s 20 years in a row, more than that, right? How long’s been going on? Long time, right? I

Seth Elkin 6:28
believe I believe this is the 18th year. 18th year. All right, I’m not

Nestor Aparicio 6:32
far off then.

Seth Elkin 6:32
Yeah, we’re we’re really close. It’s a long time partnership, but yeah, that and this seat for 20 years is such a great prize. Just just the concept of that, the idea for two decades you’re going to get a chance to go to every game is something really cool and something you’re not going to find anywhere else. So see, I think about the trip

Nestor Aparicio 6:48
and you think about 20 years and when when they win and Doug calls them and like all this and I I’ve had several of them on the show, it’s the greatest story because like they they’re thinking the next 20 years of who they’re taking, where they’re going, and and at heart, like me, unlike you, they’re Ravens fans, you know, and they love the Ravens, and that’s part of playing. So hey, I’m all I’m all in, man. It’s been it’s a fun ride to promote it. It was fun watching people throw footballs. It was fun watching Kadri Ishmael try to throw a football. So you guys make it interesting, and then I have a winner on, and they tell me that Roquan Smith brought the cheesecake on a train. You know, just stuff happens, and it creates stories.

Seth Elkin 7:29
One other cool new twist here for it’s a new prize as part of the second chance promotion this year is we’re going to have two winners for each Ravens home game, preseason and regular season, that will get the game day at the Champions Club experience. So, kind of like we did the Truist Club VIP for for the Orioles games for the Home Run Riches contestant of the game during the summer or during the fall, we’re going to have the game day at the Champions Club, and people will get a chance to to be in on that. The prize includes two lower level game tickets and access to the Champions Club, and then a parking pass as well. So I don’t know much about the

Nestor Aparicio 8:04
Champions. I don’t know anything. I haven’t done any research. I can’t say anything. I’m assuming it’s like the truest thing, where there’s a bunch of good food and a great seat, and you’re down low, right? Those are the ones down on the field.

Seth Elkin 8:14
Yep. Yep. Okay. All right. Lower level of VA. Inspired by

Nestor Aparicio 8:17
Jerry’s World. I have been in those seats in Dallas many years ago. Matter of fact, I don’t want to bring up football season with you, but since you brought it up first, I was in those seats, sort of snuck in. Jason Pappas, if you’re out there, you know it’s true. We have pictures when Green Bay played the Steelers. It was the first time I was in Jerry’s world, and we we had we went down. My wife was there too. We partook in some buffet. I remember the broccolini being delicious, and we what we witnessed the game from those seats. And it they if you’ve seen it on Monday Night Football, they come in through the glass, and you you get to watch it all. So yeah, I mean, I know the Ravens have built that. I just haven’t seen. I haven’t personally looked at it to see what it is, but I’m sure it’s like stupendous, and you’ll be right up on Lamar, right? Yeah,

Seth Elkin 9:06
a great experience for for our fans and for Ravens fans. Now, do you do that for the

Nestor Aparicio 9:10
Steelers game too, or is that just will they be up close on Aaron Rodgers too, or no? It’ll

Seth Elkin 9:15
it’s for for each home game, so when the Steelers come in, yeah, that that’ll be the opportunity for somebody. So maybe it’ll be a Steelers fan that wins it for that game.

Nestor Aparicio 9:23
All right, Seth Elkin is here talking dirty. It’s already trash talking. We’re not even. We haven’t even. You haven’t even. You didn’t even got the late trove without Coach Tomlin. That’s pretty good. I can’t do the Philly accent, but I can do the Pittsburgh one. Seth Elkin is here. He communicates for the Maryland Lottery. We’re having a little bit of fun as we kick off football season around here with our partners at the Maryland Lottery, I still have the Maryland Treasures because I ain’t even been to the damn beach yet. Don’t get me into football. I haven’t crossed the bridge yet. I mean, I haven’t.

Seth Elkin 9:51
Hey, I’m I’m doing the Luke’s been

Nestor Aparicio 9:53
swallowing aggression and beats in Wallwood, and I haven’t been to Ocean City yet. And you’re already telling me it’s football season. It’s. 100 degrees out, and I can’t breathe. We haven’t even finished the World Cup yet, but by the time people listen to this, they will.

Seth Elkin 10:06
I’m feeling the same way because the Pirates are actually showed some signs of life this year. So normally, by this time, anybody who’s a Pittsburgh sports fan like me is counting down the days until the. I touched

Nestor Aparicio 10:16
Paul Skeens’s right hand. I fist bumped him. I literally fist bumped Paul Skeens so I could come back to you and say to you, I either helped him or I screwed him up. I don’t know, you know what I mean. But I gave my job pretty

Seth Elkin 10:28
quick, won’t we?

Nestor Aparicio 10:29
I made sure I fist bumped Paul Skeens because of you, and I wanted a random weird selfie of me with Bobby Witt because I think he’s going to the Hall of Fame, and I just kind of want to do it on the Adley. And Adley Rutschman didn’t answer my questions the right way. So, like, I, I, I just a couple little things I wanted to do, like hang out with the Book Dall family, which I did. I’m gonna have them on. Now, I’m gonna ask you. Let’s get away from the lottery. Pretend we’re not doing a lottery segment. We’re doing sports radio. Did you watch the All Star Game? Did you watch home run? I mean, you’re a baseball guy, man. Oh, yeah. The

Seth Elkin 11:01
All Star game is always a lot of fun, and and again, like I said, it would have been more fun if I got to see my Pirates actually play. But it always brings back a lot of memories. And the Dave

Nestor Aparicio 11:11
Parker moment as a Pirate fan, right?

Seth Elkin 11:13
The the Dave Parker moment certainly from 1979. Throwing out what was it, Brian Downing? I think he threw out. He did throw

Nestor Aparicio 11:19
out Brian Downing. Yeah.

Seth Elkin 11:20
Yep. So there’s that. the The other other memory I have not not just because the game was in Pittsburgh, but the 1994 game that the the National League won on a walk off with Tony Gwynn sliding into home plate on a on a base hit by Moisey Salou, a one time pirate who had been traded away. So I attended the

Nestor Aparicio 11:40
94 All Star game. Did I tell you the story about the foul ball?

Seth Elkin 11:42
You did. Yes. I

Nestor Aparicio 11:44
mean, literally. I mean, I had my ticket stub, but like the foul ball. I told that story to Luke last week at Fadley’s because I brought show and tell to Luke, and I said, and I showed my ticket, and I said, I promise you, this ticket was over the railing at Three Rivers in the box seats that were kind of temporary and weird, and it was off on the third base side, and I think I got my ticket through the Orioles, maybe. So, and it was 1994. They liked me then, and and I got a you know, and I think I had two tickets. I had one ticket because I didn’t have a press pass for the only game I didn’t have a press pass for. 94 was the only year I wasn’t credentialed ever in in 17 All Star games I’ve done, and I had a ticket. And during the game, I don’t know who hit the foul ball. I haven’t gone back. Meatloaf sang the national anthem that game, and I have shared that video on social many times at Three Rivers Stadium, saying I think it was the best national anthem in an all-star game. Meatloaf, it was unbelievable. Go Google it. Getty Lee stole the best Canadian anthem in 1990-three We all know that, and every memory is measured against that. And

Seth Elkin 12:43
your memory is Meatloaf. Mine is Tony Gwynn and Dave Parker.

Nestor Aparicio 12:47
Well, I, you know, I, I also, I have all these All Star Game memories that ran together, and it all came to me this week. You know, I was walking the the concourse on Tuesday night at the All Star Game. I ran into my wife’s, the man who saved my wife’s life. My my wife’s doctor, who’s in Philadelphia now, like talk about thing. And he had a beer, and I barely write. I looked at him, and then I started crying. I’m I’m sobbing on the on the concourse at Citizens Bank, and the Phillies haven’t even lost the World Series. It was crazy. But yeah, yeah, I had some magic moments at the All Star Game, so it was great time. I got to visit with lots of friends. You’re gonna hear Buster Olney on the show. You’re going to hear Jason Stark on the show. You’re going to hear Bob Nightingale on the show. You’re going to hear Tom Verducci on the show. You’re going to hear Ken Rosenthal on the show. Like literally, because I walked around and saw them all and spent 20 minutes with each one of them and haven’t seen a lot of them. So I’m in baseball mode, even though we’re in Ravens scratch-off mode here as well. Homer Rich is still going on. Let’s do it. Seth Elkin is here. He communicates with the mayor on the lottery. The Orioles back on the grid. Hopefully, God willing, hitting some home runs and making Martin stay away because he got to figure out how to pay people for grand slams because that’s a big part of the promotion. And when I asked Adley Rochman during the home run derby, he said he is very, very upbeat about the second half and the Orioles, and I know you guys are too, because we’re only halfway through home run riches, right? Yeah,

Seth Elkin 14:08
we still got a couple more drawings to go, but our our next VIP is headed to the ballpark july 24 It’s Mariana Billingsley from Timonium. She’s going to be there to see the Orioles play the Atlanta Braves, and she’ll be there in the truest club and have a chance to really enjoy a VIP experience at the ball game. But your chance to get in on the contestant of the game is still active for another couple of months. We’ve got drawings coming up later this month, and then again at the end of August to select all of the winners for the the games in August and September. So you’re plenty of chance to get in on that. Still, you can get your $5 home run riches walk off winnings fast play tickets, and enter any of them, winning or non winning, into my lottery rewards to get a chance to be in on that promotion and maybe be a contestant of the game for one of these games in the last couple months of the season. So,

Nestor Aparicio 14:57
two quick hits here as we we wrap things up. Mega Millions and Powerball through the roof right now, right? Like they’re they’re bonkers for summer. I mean, we’re talking getting up on five 600 over half a billion dollars, both of them, right? Yeah,

Seth Elkin 15:09
they’re both the combination now is they’re up over a billion dollars. Mega Millions heading into the weekend at $672 million If it were to get hit at that amount, it would be the 10th largest jackpot in Mega Millions history, and Powerball’s at 520-6 million, so it’s getting there. It may be creeping up on passing Mega Millions here before too much longer. You never know, and and then of course, let’s not forget multi-match, our in-state jackpot game, multi-match that only Maryland players have access to, unlike Powerball and Mega Millions that are sold all over the country. Multi match is at $2.1 million now, so that’s a big jackpot for multi match. It starts at 500,000 so it’s been rolling along for a while. So all three of our jackpot games are rolling along, and chance to to play those and have some fun with them. Of course, play responsibly, play in in moderation, buy a ticket or two, don’t go overboard with it, and and play responsibly, and have some fun with it.

Nestor Aparicio 16:03
Look, I promoted some winner stories here, and we usually talk a lot of winner stories when we don’t have like breaking news, like we do with the Raven scratch offs coming out, and new Kiss Face Birds and $2 tickets, and me having hit Roz to get the tickets. The lead story this week would have been the Dundalk story, right? Half million dollars in Dundalk. Like, should we save this and lead with this next week, or should we go into this now?

Seth Elkin 16:25
Ah, yeah, you can. Hey, it’s it’s your hometown. It’s that’s why I’m saying

Nestor Aparicio 16:29
this might be the lead story next week, and I might just say, look, go to MD Lotter and read about it if you want. You can read about. There’s also a thing going on with with with the with the app with my lottery rewards that I want to talk about, but I really want to put like a big focus on it. So maybe we’ll save that for next week. If you if you’re at MD lottery or My Lottery Rewards, you’ve downloaded the apps, you’ve seen there been some changes on the scanning. It’s all there for you. But I want to like take a deep dive. And when somebody in Dundalk wins a half million dollars, I think it should be the lead story. I don’t think it should be the secondary story because this week we got too much going. We had too much sports this week. I think for you and me.

Seth Elkin 17:02
Well, it’s it’s all Star Game week. We’re we’re in a we’re in a sports mode for sure. Were

Nestor Aparicio 17:06
you pro England or anti? Were you happy they lost the way they did and want more pain for for for the Palmies in Mother England, or are you like me and thinking just make Mick Jagger happy, please, for God’s sake? Let him win.

Seth Elkin 17:17
Impartial on that. I was glad it was a dramatic finish. I think it was a

Nestor Aparicio 17:21
hell of a match. Well, very memorable, right?

Seth Elkin 17:23
Yep. Yeah. I

Nestor Aparicio 17:24
hope the finals that memorable. Hope we get some fresh air as well. Seth Elkin is my friend, even though he’s from Pittsburgh. Even though he roots for the wrong baseball team, the wrong we look. We share the Pittsburgh Pisces, right? We both, right? We both love that. So we got that going on as well. He communicates for the Maryland Lottery, and we have a lot of fun together when we visit about sports and other things. We always encourage people. Please do this responsibly. One 800 gamblers there for you. I always say that because it always hits me that hey, I’m promoting gambling. This is on the up and up. We want to make sure that that people are doing this on the up and up. And if you need some help, make sure you find it out there. Seth, I will. I I might have you next week. The Orioles hit some home runs this week. Keep Martin active. He’s got to go figure out all these $5,000 I’ll get you back on, but I can’t wait to talk Dundalk couple. And also, hopefully, maybe somebody around here will win that half billion dollars, huh?

Seth Elkin 18:10
We’re sure hoping. It’s it’s been a little while. It’s 2021 is the last time we had a a jackpot that was won in either Powerball or Mega Millions here in Maryland. So we’re hoping. Fingers crossed.

Nestor Aparicio 18:20
I’m feeling magnanimous. I was even nice to the people in Philadelphia this week. I’ve been nice to you this week. I was nice to Paul Skeens. If somebody from Sparrows Point or Highland Town or Rosedale or Essex wins as a Dundalk guy, I’m good. If you get $600 million you can even be from like Nottingham or White Marsh if you want to be. Go win. It’s Maryland Lottery. They put us out on the road. We’re gonna be doing the Maryland Crab Cake Tour. Speaking of Essex, we’ll be at Pizza John’s next Friday. John Allen’s coming out. My my best friend Bunky from Stonehorse is my rock star pal. He’s gonna come out talk some rock and roll. And his new single’s doing great. Bands out on the road doing stuff. And we’re also gonna go over to East Point Mall for the final time. East Point Mall, and this is my lottery promotion. This is true. Where I bought the one and only winning lottery ticket of my lifetime at East Point Liquors. They’re closing East Point Mall. Moment of silence. I need a little time. We’re Baltimore positive.
