The reason we save money is to enjoy it and this week many Baltimore football fans will be experiencing a once-in-a-lifetime (or at least until the Ravens play in Abu Dhabi or Bangkok) trip to Rio de Janeiro to see the men of Jesse Minter take on the Dallas Cowboys in an international clash at the legendary Maracana Stadium, which may or may not be a playable NFL surface. Our money dude Leonard Raskin joins Nestor to discuss exploring Brazil and staying on the safe side of the Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. Oh, only one of us is going to South America this time…

- Plans include visiting Christ the Redeemer, Sugarloaf, the beach, a steakhouse, and the stadium for the Ravens-Cowboys game.
- Leonard has completed his visa, passport, and Global Entry preparations; safety and the stadium’s playing surface remain concerns.
Ravens Concerns
- The loss raised questions about limited preseason tackling, offensive balance, and the decision not to use Derrick Henry more frequently.
- Leonard criticized the lack of designed Lamar Jackson runs, special-teams breakdowns, and the offense’s inability to keep the defense off the field.

Welcome home. We are WNST AM 1570 Towson, Baltimore. We call this thing Baltimore positive. It is our 28th anniversary, and to honor that, I’m doing lots and lots of rock and roll stories. Last time Leonard Raskin and I got together, Ricosta’s doing the Maryland Crab Cake Tour. We’ll be doing this on Thursday at State Fair in Catonsville when he and the Ravens are landing in Rio de Janeiro and Copacabana. I’ll sing a little Barry Manilow and the girl from Ipanema to him later on. GBMC also sending us out on the road as well as Farnan and Dermer. Zach Dermer is going to be sitting in with me on Thursday. We are doing a breakfast edition at State Fair. A lot of baseball. Casper Wells, former big league player with Heller Ko’s, going to be joining us. Alan McCallum’s gonna come out on Thursday. So some baseball, some rock and roll. My buddy Richard Abraham’s one of my first original friends that I camped out for concert tickets with. So we’re gonna tell some rock and roll stories. But this guy has got his own rock and roll story. By the way, U2’s in my top 28. Leonard Raskin and I was looking for my U2 Brazil shirt that I got on the streets of São Paulo 20 years ago now. Just like Free the Birds was 20 years ago today. By the way, crazy. Um, it is crazy. But like, so I have my Brazil stuff and all. I mean, I know they lost on Sunday, and we’ll get to that. Luke and I have been beating them up and Minter and the goal line. Yeah, the ball go over the goal. You’re going to Rio de Janeiro here. I
Leonard Raskin 1:21
am.
Nestor Aparicio 1:22
Are you excited? I’m
Leonard Raskin 1:23
ready to go. I haven’t packed yet. Look at the glasses
Nestor Aparicio 1:26
on. You your glasses look very Brazilian. I like that good look. I like that.
Leonard Raskin 1:29
Okay, got to do some packing. South
Nestor Aparicio 1:31
American Leonard is what it is. There we
Leonard Raskin 1:32
go. We’re all set. I’ll pack it up. We’ll be ready to go. And I got the visas done. I got the passports ready. I got the global entry set up. Now you’ve
Nestor Aparicio 1:40
never been to South America, where my people are from, right? Oh, first time on the
Leonard Raskin 1:45
continent, so we’re gonna check one off the list.
Nestor Aparicio 1:48
Do you already have your the most important thing you can do when you travel internationally is take your phone and get the Google Translate app right out on the flight, right? Absolutely, like that’s what you need to do. Get the Portuguese going. Got it.
Leonard Raskin 1:59
Yes, indeed. Abrogado.
Nestor Aparicio 2:02
Abrogado. That’s what you guys say. That’s that’s thank you.
Leonard Raskin 2:05
That’s all you need to know. I’m set. I heard. I saw another one that you have to ask about the the filtrated water.
Nestor Aparicio 2:13
Just get water, man.
Leonard Raskin 2:15
Right. Just buy bottled water. That’s it. That’s it. Do you
Nestor Aparicio 2:18
think? I just got to ask you this seriously because when you come back, I’m going to be so excited because you’re not doing next Monday. You’re going to be in Brazil. We’ll have you on the end of next correct.
Leonard Raskin 2:25
Correct.
Nestor Aparicio 2:26
Maybe I get you to Peter Johns next Friday when you get back because we’re doing a show there on the second. So, what? Give me a little like mental prep on this because a lot of people are going.
Leonard Raskin 2:37
Yeah.
Nestor Aparicio 2:38
Obviously, safety. I’ve been through that with you. What to expect there? You’ve seen pictures, videos, all of that. You’re going to be with the tour group. Are you going to do anything on your own? I mean, if you looked at Google Maps, is where your hotel is, and whether there’s a coffee shop. We have some
Leonard Raskin 2:53
free time, absolutely.
Nestor Aparicio 2:56
You don’t know what you’re going to do, though.
Leonard Raskin 2:56
No, we’ll figure it out as we as we get the land. Where’s your hotel, by the way? Can you tell me Hotel Nacional?
Nestor Aparicio 3:03
Hotel Nationale in Rio. I’m gonna look this up right now. It’s a
Leonard Raskin 3:06
huge, huge glass tube. It just looks like a giant
Nestor Aparicio 3:13
Hotel Nacional Rio de Janeiro. I see it right here.
Leonard Raskin 3:17
It’s a huge tube.
Nestor Aparicio 3:19
Oh, okay. I see where you are. Okay, I see where we are. Right at the beach, right on the beach, big pool,
Leonard Raskin 3:24
spa. I could be doing massage. I could be doing the pool. We could be seeing some town. We got to see some town, but we’re all over. We’re we’re going everywhere.
Nestor Aparicio 3:32
All right, man. Look at we got all kinds
Leonard Raskin 3:34
of all kinds of trips put together. What’s
Nestor Aparicio 3:36
the weather like there right now? You know,
Leonard Raskin 3:38
I think high 70s.
Nestor Aparicio 3:39
Okay,
Leonard Raskin 3:40
perfect.
Nestor Aparicio 3:41
I hope you have the greatest trip ever. I hope they play the game.
Leonard Raskin 3:45
What do you mean?
Nestor Aparicio 3:46
Well, the grass.
Leonard Raskin 3:47
What’s up with the grass?
Nestor Aparicio 3:48
Oh, you don’t know?
Leonard Raskin 3:49
No.
Nestor Aparicio 3:51
Oh, you don’t know.
Leonard Raskin 3:52
No, it’s up with the grass. They’re
Nestor Aparicio 3:53
having problems with the grass there.
Leonard Raskin 3:55
The NFL.
Nestor Aparicio 3:56
Well, the soccer players didn’t like it last week. They played there. They’re playing soccer there all week. The NFL has said, you know, but you do know they canceled the game in Mexico City and moved it to LA at the last minute, right? Great. So I, when I heard this, I’m just sort of like, I thought of you first, all we need third. It’s
Leonard Raskin 4:11
all we need. And all I remember
Nestor Aparicio 4:13
is Billick and Goose walking on the turf up at the at Veterans Stadium. Remember that? Remember
Leonard Raskin 4:18
that? We’re not playing there. Yeah, we’re not playing. We’re not. We’re not pulling up clumps of grass like it’s a golf, like they just hit a driver. I mean, whatever seams actually from where the pitchers mound,
Nestor Aparicio 4:28
I think. Yeah, not
Leonard Raskin 4:29
good. 20 yard line.
Nestor Aparicio 4:30
Lenor has here. He is he he is the American dream. So the American dream for any fan would be you know plop down five grand, go to Rio, and have a good time. But like, why can I just say why are you doing this? You’re a Ravens fan. You’re Baltimore guy. You travel. Like, why did this strike you and Kathy as would would you have gone to Melbourne? Would you have? I mean, could they play? Would they played in Germany? Would you be going? Because you didn’t go to the London game. Well, you went to London, May the first time. Yeah,
Leonard Raskin 4:57
we did. We went to London to see the Jags.
Nestor Aparicio 4:59
You didn’t go. Second time, no.
Leonard Raskin 5:01
No, we did not go the second time. We’d already been in London, so, but but we had that was our first trip to London, and so we went, and then we went over three more times since, four more times because of the boy and because of the band and all that kind of. Did your
Nestor Aparicio 5:15
son wind up going to college in Europe because of the trip that when when I was with you, I remember you. We ate with you guys. I remember eat mushy peas with you and your kids. I absolutely remember that.
Leonard Raskin 5:25
Absolutely, I don’t know if he went there because of that, but it certainly gave him a love of London, and he loves he loves Europe and he loves London.
Nestor Aparicio 5:33
Eddie, but you had been to Europe before when he was a boy, or no? No. So the first time he had ever been to Europe was when you and I were together, not yes. So sports has really made you an international traveler. Well, it started it
Leonard Raskin 5:45
started some of that because we yeah it gave us a reason to go. Like where are we going to go? Well, let’s go to London. The Ravens are playing. Okay, I wouldn’t have missed at that point in my
Nestor Aparicio 5:53
life. I wasn’t going to miss that Wembley trip as bad as it was, and my cat died and like all that. Right, it was
Leonard Raskin 5:58
fantastic. So so we had a great time there. We hung out in the in the pubs, and we hung out at at lunch with you guys, and then we we did the the the ride to Wembley. I mean, it was it was magnificent. And did you do the
Nestor Aparicio 6:11
Churchill thing when we did it? The the the catacombs. No, we
Leonard Raskin 6:15
did it our second time there. Man, that Churchill thing. That’s everybody’s got to do that, man. Absolutely magnificent! So we did London by ourselves. Then we did London with the Delaney High Band when we were band booster parents. Then we did Ireland. Then we did Ireland again and again and again. But dude, you did like a
Nestor Aparicio 6:34
month and a half in Europe at one point. Yeah, you went to a lot of places. Yeah, we were
Leonard Raskin 6:38
all over the UK, Ireland. But you and
Nestor Aparicio 6:42
your wife waited to later in life to do this with your son. Yes, as a as a grown up, not as an eight year old boy. Correct. And I’m sure you did the Disney World and all that. Correct the Hawaii. Lots of times. I mean, you you’ve you’ve checked the boxes in 30 years of marriage of like all these places. But Brazil was never a place. It
Leonard Raskin 6:58
wasn’t a place on the bucket list. It wasn’t a place to go, and then saw okay the Ravens are going to play in Brazil, so I I knew it wasn’t super safe. It’s not a great place to just hang out, so I said okay, we might go, and then I saw online these like you use trips, sure, yeah, the trips that were running. I said we’ll probably be safer if there’s 100 people together instead of Two, price was reasonable. Ravens are playing. It’s an excuse to go check out Brazil. So we said, let’s do it. You know, I
Nestor Aparicio 7:29
brought all of my ticket stubs to you 10 days ago, and Richard Abraham’s, and you know, look, I’m a kid from Dundalk, right? You grew up on the other side of town, yeah. In Dundalk, I we had a Jewish teacher in eighth grade at Hollyburg, and he’s the only Jewish person I’d ever met as a kid. And I’m 14 years old, and I’m in the parking lot of Reicherstown Road Plaza, and I met Richard, and he’s been one of my dearest friends for 40 years. But he was the first person I ever knew who was Jewish. It was from the other side of town. It was a cultural experience camping out for concert tickets, and 20 years later, Richard’s going to come on Thursday, and we’re going to talk about camping out for rush tickets, YouTube tickets, all these things. But like the international part, he was one of the only people I ever knew in my life who had been to London in 1985. I’m 17 years old. I didn’t. People in Dundalk didn’t travel. Like Randallstown
Leonard Raskin 8:19
didn’t travel.
Nestor Aparicio 8:19
Yeah, there’s no nobody I knew had ever been to Europe,
Leonard Raskin 8:22
dude. We didn’t even go to Dundalk. Yeah, I mean,
Nestor Aparicio 8:25
right? We didn’t even cross. You didn’t even go through the tunnel. So, so tunnel the
Leonard Raskin 8:30
bridge. It was it was none of that. My buddy
Nestor Aparicio 8:32
Ed Stilk, who came out after you, after you left, Ed came. Ed said his family had never been any outside of the state of Maryland. They’d never been past Ocean City, or Hershey Park, or Kings Dominion-like that’s as far as his family had ever been in their lives. I
Leonard Raskin 8:46
remember, I remember growing up as a little kid. My mother, when we were-I don’t even know how old we were. We’re very young, really young. There was a family wedding in California, in L.A. It was, if I’m not remembering, it might have been the first or second time my mother was on a plane, and and she didn’t go anywhere, but she went to this wedding out in L.A. Talks about it to this day how magnificent it was, and we go places, and whenever we’re overseas on the road, wherever we are now, technology, right? Incredible! It’s incredible. The first time I went to Jamaica when I
Nestor Aparicio 9:27
worked at the paper 40 years ago, like trying to make a long distance call is impossible.
Leonard Raskin 9:31
Insane, insane! A collect call from Letters. Now I can launch from
Nestor Aparicio 9:35
Machu Picchu and do two days of radio with Luke in the middle of of a mountain in Peru. No, it’s crazy. I got a
Leonard Raskin 9:42
call from Leonard’s okay. Will you accept the charges? No. And that’s all she needed to know was we’re okay. The operator took care of the rest. So, so that was that was the stuff. But wasn’t worth the four bucks to
Nestor Aparicio 9:55
check in with her. Right. No.
Leonard Raskin 9:57
Now we’re we’re in London, and. On the eye, and we’re at the top of the eye, and I’m FaceTiming her with a view of the city of London.
Nestor Aparicio 10:07
Freaky,
Leonard Raskin 10:08
and it’s we FaceTimed her. We FaceTimed her. I don’t remember the. Are you gonna FaceTime me
Nestor Aparicio 10:13
from Corcovado one first afternoon?
Leonard Raskin 10:15
Sure. We we FaceTimed her from the the night. It was 11 o’clock at night outside the Eiffel Tower when they shoot the lights and it all lights up and and flashes. She’s in awe. She’s you know it’s just amazing. So yeah, as a kid from Randallstown, like I said, I couldn’t spell Dublin more or less. Think about going there. It just wasn’t in the. It wasn’t even in the American Dream. It wasn’t even in the possibility realm. So, Leonard, I want you to send me
Nestor Aparicio 10:46
a picture that looks just like this right here when you get there. All right. There we go. I don’t want you to be as young as I was 20 years ago, but I want that picture over over Sugarloaf, dude. All right. Got it. Make sure you send me that. We’ll do it. We’ll do it. So I’m so so thrilled you’re going. By the way, yeah. So so now we go. All my friends that are going, please send me pictures.
Leonard Raskin 11:04
And again, what what it’s all about is seeing the world, and so we get to go to these places. And like I said, Brazil wasn’t even on the the list of. There you go.
Nestor Aparicio 11:17
Hey, dude, I want to show you this because this is in your in your house. This is my house. Yeah, this is Jen and I and our our previous kitty that we lost. But this was this is the main artwork in my in in my home. It has been for 25 years. So I so I when I tell you Rio is a place and a thing, I wanted to make sure you could check it out as well as Rob Woods are gonna. We
Leonard Raskin 11:39
are gonna do it, and we’re gonna see the Ravens, and hopefully they’re gonna play 60 minutes, not 30 minutes. There, I don’t understand. Okay, so let’s talk. By the way, can I
Nestor Aparicio 11:50
promote my wife here for one minute? This is my wife in two. This is Sugarloaf. This is Copacabana Beach. Yeah, the Stones played this entire beach from where we stayed. So, like, you’re you’re gonna love Rio, dude. You’re gonna look forward to it. So excited! I
Leonard Raskin 12:06
can’t wait. I can’t take
Nestor Aparicio 12:07
pictures, dude. Oh, we’re gonna
Leonard Raskin 12:08
definitely take pictures. So so here’s here’s my Ravens recap.
Nestor Aparicio 12:12
Okay. All
Leonard Raskin 12:13
right. A few things. Number one, does it matter that a lot of these guys don’t play preseason? Well, it
Nestor Aparicio 12:21
matters a lot that they don’t tackle,
Leonard Raskin 12:23
right? And are they in the shape they need to be in to play and do the things they need to do in a game?
Nestor Aparicio 12:28
Well, I mean, this in the fourth
Leonard Raskin 12:29
quarter, third quarter, fourth. This is
Nestor Aparicio 12:30
where week one and week two test everyone.
Leonard Raskin 12:33
That’s right. Number one, number two. It is everything’s
Nestor Aparicio 12:35
unknown. We didn’t know how good Patrick Mahomes is going to be, and now we’ve seen it though. We just heard about it.
Leonard Raskin 12:40
Right. Number number two. What? Maybe I’m missing something, but this this coaching staff did they did they read the Harbaugh book this week and say we should not run Derrick Henry in the second half?
Nestor Aparicio 12:54
Well, the the the throw to Chris Moore on third down was insane. I mean, and especially got him off the field. Now we’re going to sit here and I’m losing all weight. Third and
Leonard Raskin 13:02
one, you’re throwing a 40-yard bomb. How about get a first down with Derrick Henry, then move the ball? How about Derrick Henry in there a lot? How about what happened to him? I’m watching. He’s holding his helmet on the sidelines. I just don’t understand not using that guy when he touches the ball. I don’t know the stats. You do. When he touches the ball 30 times, they don’t lose, right? So let’s let’s have him touch it 20 times and forget about him. What is going on there? I don’t understand. Well, it’s a new
Nestor Aparicio 13:32
offense. I don’t care about the
Leonard Raskin 13:33
fourth and one.
Nestor Aparicio 13:34
The new guy’s got he he’s got a toy, Lamar, right? Like, but
Leonard Raskin 13:38
but you got to run them both. There there’s no, there’s no, what’s it called? The the option, the read option. They’re not doing any of that.
Nestor Aparicio 13:47
We haven’t seen any of the mesh point stuff. So,
Leonard Raskin 13:49
so it makes it makes the team very two dimensional. What do they do? They run the ball with Derek and they throw the ball when he’s not there, and there’s no threat of Lamar. Lamar is only running when he’s escaping for his life. I didn’t see any planned runs unless I. Part of
Nestor Aparicio 14:05
this is Zay Flowers not being there in Jakarta. Of course, who were choosing parts of what they was in his play ball. There’s no doubt about
Leonard Raskin 14:12
it, and they Zay can get open and tough for the other guys to get open. I get it, but when that’s the case, you say, okay, we got to play with what we got, the tools we have are Lamar, Derek, swing passes, some some short passes, Todd Heap, Todd Heap, no, not Todd Heap, you know, Mark Andrews. We we got to play with what we have, and the I think every aspect of the game yesterday faulted. Special teams they let a guy block a field goal. Special teams the end of the half they let a guy get a 40 yard, 30 yard kickoff return, and they come down and get a field goal before the end of the half. Shouldn’t have happened, and then the. Defense rises up when first and goal at the two. They stop them four times. That’s great. That shouldn’t have mattered that the referees called that a touchdown. It wasn’t a touchdown. I don’t know how they ruled it a touchdown. Well, Rod knows why they took off his
Nestor Aparicio 15:15
head. By the way, I know right. Of course,
Leonard Raskin 15:17
I know why they didn’t overrule the touchdown because they had nothing to say it wasn’t a touchdown. But from every angle that was shown, it wasn’t a touchdown. And had they ruled it wasn’t a touchdown, it wouldn’t have been a touchdown. But that’s not how you lose a game. You lose a game by not having any offensive power, staying off, keeping the defense off the field in the second half, my goodness, were they on the field for 20 minutes? It was it was insane the the lack of offense in that second half. Have
Nestor Aparicio 15:51
you noticed the new head coach in any way, Leonard? In a way that you want to speak about it. I mean, like he’s the new guy. The Harbaugh thing’s the immediate thing. By the way, he brought up in the post game that you know that there’s a reputation of them losing games, and Luke brought this up this week too. That’s irrelevant. He talked to the players last week about, hey, you guys didn’t play well at home this year. I I wasn’t here. Now he’s a part of that, and I think fans are
Leonard Raskin 16:16
that shouldn’t even be in their head. I wouldn’t have ever. I would have never brought it up. My answer would have been: We win games in Baltimore. We win games because we dominate. We win games because of this. Past is irrelevant. The next pilot that flies a plane in a rearview mirror is going to crash. You know, we we live forward. You only look backwards in in remembrance of good things. Who looks back and says all these terrible things happened? Let’s move on. No, that gets in your head that terrible things are going to happen. We don’t talk about bad things that happened. We we we’re moving forward. This is my team. I’m the new guy. Let’s go out there. Let’s play ball. And when we’re ahead, it’s just we’re ahead. Let’s keep going. I don’t understand this. The but on a Monday
Nestor Aparicio 17:01
morning, when you wake up and the guys on the team have been through these double-digit meltdowns, yeah, and everything that this is a big week, Leonard. I mean, you’re going to get on a plane, go to Rio. So absolutely, better. When you’re going to be tired as hell when you get there on Friday morning, right? Or better when are you going?
Leonard Raskin 17:17
Wednesday. Get there Thursday.
Nestor Aparicio 17:18
Oh, you’re getting a day before they get there, and you’re there like several after the after the game, right?
Leonard Raskin 17:23
Till till Tuesday, we fly out Tuesday afternoon.
Nestor Aparicio 17:25
Okay, and the game’s only an hour difference. It’s probably 5o’clock game there instead of a 4o’clock game. Yeah, whatever it
Leonard Raskin 17:31
is. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
Nestor Aparicio 17:32
yeah. Because they’re an hour in. Leonard Raskin is here. He is Raskin Global. Tell me what you do in managing money in that you have the kind of life you can take the week off and go to Rio with the Ravens, good. I mean, it’s almost like the old Michael Caine movie blaming on Rio. Remember that one?
Leonard Raskin 17:44
That’s it. I do. Is that the Me More?
Nestor Aparicio 17:46
I think that was the Memore, wasn’t it?
Leonard Raskin 17:47
Could be the
Nestor Aparicio 17:48
daughter. I think maybe. Anyway, I’ll look at it. Been a good
Leonard Raskin 17:50
long time. What we do, we make sure that people are doing the right things with their money, not what the bank tells you, not what an insurance company tells you, not what a brokerage firm tells you, not what Google tells you, but scientifically, economically, academically, correct financial strategy in your best interest. How do you protect your wealth to make sure that the things that can come after you don’t take away your wealth? How do you save money? How do you run your cash flow so that you make sure you have enough to do the things you want to do in life? What is the order of acquiring assets? There’s an order to this. You don’t start with a 401k. It’s not first. There are other things that need to be done first. How do you grow your wealth. What’s the proper way to invest? Should you speculate? Should you gamble, or should you invest your money academically, Nobel Prize-winning historic research of how and money how money should be invested? And then, here’s the big one, man. How do you enjoy it? What are the things you want to do what’s on that bucket list? What’s most important to you in your life, your family, your circumstance that you want to do, so that when you have the money, you’re not living all of it for the future. You got to have money for the future. You wait to live it all for the future. I don’t see 70-year-olds with wheelchairs and walkers getting on a flight to go to Rio necessarily. You go when you’re young and healthy, and you do things and you you live your life. I’m not saying waste the money on some ridiculous car that you want to have, but if you have the money to get it, why why Nestor do we see guys like me, all these gray-haired 70-year-old dudes driving Corvettes,
Nestor Aparicio 19:47
because you want to feel young again,
Leonard Raskin 19:48
and because you’re the only one that can afford it. So, so you drive it. You feel young, and you get to drive it now. So, okay, could you have driven it in your 30s? You could if you knew how. In your 40s, you could have if you knew how. So, so don’t wait around for things, but get the things you want, and then ultimately, mortality has 100% record of success. So we’re all going to die. What happens to the wealth you’ve accumulated that you haven’t enjoyed when you die, where does it go? How does it go? How much does the government take before it goes to the people you want? There’s a lot of things to live
Nestor Aparicio 20:30
in.
Leonard Raskin 20:30
That’s exactly right. There’s a lot of takers out there trying to get. See, you taught me well, right? And that’s pretty good teaching point, right? Absolutely, a lot of takers trying to get to that money before you get to give it to who you want. The answer is let’s make sure it goes to who you want, how you want, when you want. And I’ll tell you, we see people all the time they haven’t planned for these things, they haven’t protected their wealth, they haven’t grown it properly. And when we start talking to them about the things they need to know with their money, they’re they’re just floored. These are things that are not taught. It’s things that people don’t know, and sadly, very few families talk about this as well. Most families have a no talk rule. We don’t talk about money. We don’t talk about what we have. We don’t talk about what we spend. We don’t. You see, most families
Nestor Aparicio 21:19
like that’s probably 95% of people on Earth, right?
Leonard Raskin 21:23
Yes. Yeah. Well, I don’t know about on Earth. Certainly, how
Nestor Aparicio 21:26
many people listening right now have brothers and sisters and have parents alive and have no idea about how much money your parents have, your kids, your brothers, sisters, what’s coming to you, what might be coming to you, what you might have
Speaker 1 21:37
to take. You have siblings,
Nestor Aparicio 21:39
parents, mother, father. How how many times in your life have you really talked about
Leonard Raskin 21:43
it? None, none.
Nestor Aparicio 21:44
Yeah,
Leonard Raskin 21:45
none. That’s true. Most often, and this is my experience, 40 years in the business, come in January. Most often, the wealthier families talk about it more.
Nestor Aparicio 21:56
Okay, fair enough.
Leonard Raskin 21:57
They tend to have more conversations. They tend to think about it much more. They think about the legacy not only of money but of family value and what they’re going to pass on and what it means to be Aparicio. Right? What does it mean? It means to be
Nestor Aparicio 22:15
locked out of Ravens and Orioles. There we go. That’s what
Leonard Raskin 22:18
it means. No, it means something significantly more. And the question is, what will your son carry on, and what will his children carry on, and so on, and so wealthier families tend to have more conversations about it, but not necessarily. We have, and they tend to fight about it. But
Nestor Aparicio 22:33
but do you see the Jimmy Buffett thing? Do you see the Jimmy Buffett thing? Oh
Leonard Raskin 22:36
my God, what’s going on? I have not, but I well, I don’t even
Nestor Aparicio 22:38
know about it because I’m doing my 28 favorite bands here. As you were on it. By the way, but Little Raskin’s here. He manages money. Go to Raskin Global. Yeah, I’m going through all these pictures and ticket. I mean, Jimmy Buffett. Like I’ve seen Jimmy Buffett a lot. Maybe more than Springsteen because he played three times a year. He just, you know what I mean? Like did it longer. He always did it. He never stopped touring. It was right. He just did it. You know. So you saw him a lot. It was always fun. It was always like a night. It was always summer. It was always always made you feel good. So, like, I have all of this stuff. Jimmy Buffett’s whole thing, right, is just everything I said: flip flops, lifestyle. Right. Let’s get stoned. Let’s get laid. Let’s drink a beer. Let’s go to have a boat. Let’s have
Leonard Raskin 23:16
some money.
Nestor Aparicio 23:16
Let’s have right. Well, and obviously some
Leonard Raskin 23:18
money,
Nestor Aparicio 23:19
dude. They’re all fighting over. Of
Leonard Raskin 23:20
course,
Nestor Aparicio 23:22
they’re all like, and I’m thinking to myself, man, Jimmy wouldn’t want that, right? No, but they are all fighting. But why?
Leonard Raskin 23:27
So why? Because there was never that. What are we doing? I’m sure
Nestor Aparicio 23:32
he thought he had it tightened up, but like him, he probably never thought he’s going to die. I never thought he’s. I’m still having a hard time coming to grips with his dead.
Leonard Raskin 23:39
Exactly. I’m sure the people
Nestor Aparicio 23:40
around him because he felt so alive, dude. If I ever die suddenly, people will be shocked because I’m so energetic. You know what I mean? Like in a general sense, I can’t think of Jimmy Buffett being dead.
Leonard Raskin 23:49
Things must be not just written, but they need to be committed. Not if I die. I’m
Nestor Aparicio 23:54
going to die at some point. You’ve already told me that in a second. Yeah, you already broken that page to me.
Leonard Raskin 23:58
I know it’s sad. And I’m going to
Nestor Aparicio 24:00
have some stuff laying around, even if it’s just a couple of belt buckles, right? And somebody’s
Leonard Raskin 24:03
going to say, “What? How do we get it? And somebody’s going to say, “Not your problem,
Nestor Aparicio 24:07
right? Exactly. Don’t worry about it. I mean, I’ve seen,
Leonard Raskin 24:09
I’ve seen ugly. I’ve seen kids in in court against each other. I’ve seen kids against parents, their parents. Well, you
Nestor Aparicio 24:19
talked two weeks ago about when mine start to go with parents too, and that could be, you know, that could be the worst thing ever. All right, I got to let you go because you have to go because you’re packing for Rio.
Leonard Raskin 24:30
Absolutely.
Nestor Aparicio 24:30
You know, is is there anything you’re you’re gonna you know like say about Rio that you’re? I mean, you’re gonna go to one of the steakhouses and do the green and red. Absolutely, absolutely,
Leonard Raskin 24:40
and we’re gonna do the Redeemer. We’re gonna do the the mountain that was behind you, the the whatever that is,
Nestor Aparicio 24:46
Sugarloaf. Yeah,
Leonard Raskin 24:46
Sugarloaf, yeah. We’re gonna do that. We’re gonna do a a big old beach party. You know, we’re gonna go to the stadium and hopefully watch the Ravens beat the Cowboys. The Cowboys don’t impress me about anything. Yeah, but over the New
Nestor Aparicio 24:59
Jersey’s yet. Have you?
Leonard Raskin 25:00
No.
Nestor Aparicio 25:01
Yeah, I don’t know. What do I?
Leonard Raskin 25:03
What do I need a new jersey for? I got the old jersey. I like the
Nestor Aparicio 25:05
old one better. Yeah, it doesn’t matter. They’re
Leonard Raskin 25:07
they’re lovely, but you know what? They they make a new jersey, so you have to buy pay more for it. How about how about the Oregon Ducks? They have a new jersey every week, so the team out there, everybody’s got to buy new jerseys every week. Well, the team better
Nestor Aparicio 25:18
have a new team on the field this week, from what we saw in New Orleans. Leonard Raskin’s here. He manages money. You can find him at the front of Baltimore. Positive. You can’t find him this week unless you’re in Rio on the trip in Medicana. I hope they get the game in. Baseball season’s coming to an end. We’re going to be doing the Maryland Crab Cake Tours State Fair on Thursday in the morning, breakfast time. All brought to you by the Maryland Lottery. I love the Kiss Face Bird. By the way, Leonard, I don’t know if you read my Kiss piece number 28 on the countdown. John Mayer is going to be 27 next week as we count these down. But I’ve got a lot of fun feedback on the Kiss piece because I’ve sort of leaned into the fact of my interview with them and the fact that they said they’d never put the makeup back on. And of course, money was involved. Yes, Gene Simmons was involved. Yes, he is Leonard. I am Nestor. He’s off to Rio. I’m just going to Ocean City to see Hootie and the Blowfish. We’re going to one beach. I’m going on another beach. We’re back for more. I just don’t want to be a son of a beach. And by the way, blame it on Rio. Make sure you watch that on the flight on the way down. Pretty good. There we go. Back for more right after this. We’re Baltimore Positive.
