Osemele absent from Thursday's practice

OWINGS MILLS, Md. — Despite optimism that the 53-man roster was as close to full strength as possible following the Week 8 bye, the Ravens were without a starting member of their offensive line for the second straight day on Thursday as they continued preparations for Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns. After right tackle Michael Oher sat out Wednesday’s workout with an ankle injury, left guard Kelechi Osemele did not participate after being a limited participant a day earlier. Osemele has been nursing a back injury all season and acknowledged prior to the bye that he would be undergoing offseason surgery to correct a bad disc, making it likely that the Ravens will need to monitor his practice time for the rest of the season. “The back’s a big thing. It’s connected to everything,” said Osemele about the injury during the bye week. “It’s connected to your legs. It’s everything from that point down is affected. It’s affected my power. I’m an offensive lineman. I need to have strong legs. So, obviously it’s affected me.” Oher was suited up and working fully

OWINGS MILLS, Md. — The Ravens took full advantage of their bye week from a health standpoint as all but one player on the 53-man roster took part in Wednesday’s practice. Despite being dressed out in full gear and appearing to take part in individual drills during the viewing portion of the workout, right tackle Michael Oher (knee) was listed as a non-participant on the first injury report of the week. Continuing preparations for Sunday’s trip to Cleveland to take on the 3-5 Browns, coach John Harbaugh painted a positive picture from an injury standpoint as the Ravens battled a slew of injuries in the first half of the season. OWINGS MILLS, Md. — The Ravens continued to look in good shape from a health standpoint Thursday as linebackers Josh Bynes and Albert McClellan were the only players absent from practice. Continuing preparations for Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Ravens saw the return of defensive end Chris Canty (thigh) to practice after he was listed as a non-participant on Wednesday’s report. It was believed that Canty simply received a day off to rest as he was upgraded to full participation on Thursday. Bynes is dealing with an infected finger and a thigh injury, but coach John Harbaugh painted a positive prognosis for the 24-year-old linebacker prior to Wednesday’s practice. McClellan hasn’t taken part in a practice since the week leading up to the Week 4 loss in Buffalo as he continues to nurse a shoulder injury, but the special-teams standout has played in each of the last two games. Ravens re-sign TE Bajema (again), part ways with RB Draughn

In what’s almost become an amusing game for the Ravens’ 53-man roster, veteran tight end Billy Bajema has been re-signed for the third time this season. Third-string running back and kick returner Shaun Draughn was waived to make room for Bajema, who was re-signed shortly before the season after being released at the end of the summer and played in the Ravens’ first four games. He was released for a second time when the Ravens completed the trade for new left tackle Eugene Monroe last week but was then re-signed over the weekend when wide receiver Brandon Stokley hadn’t recovered from a groin injury. Bajema was released for a third time this year on Tuesday when Stokley was invited back to the roster. The 30-year-old tight end has one catch for 18 yards this season and has primarily served as an extra blocker in the running game. Though not eligible to return until after this week’s game against the Green Bay Packers, Ravens linebacker Jameel McClain appears to be moving closer to his return to football. Currently on the reserve physically unable to perform list as he recovers from a spinal cord contusion, McClain has been medically cleared to resume playing football, according to a report from The Sun. McClain suffered the injury last Dec. 9 against the Washington Redskins and hasn’t played since despite working out and attending meetings at the team’s Owings Mills facility. McClain may resume practicing as early as next week and will have a 21-day window in which to practice once he steps back on the practice field. However, the sixth-year linebacker can be placed back on the 53-man roster sooner than that if the Ravens deem him ready. “We’ll just keep taking the MRIs, and when the MRI is clear, then he’ll go,” said coach John Harbaugh in late August before McClain was placed on the reserve PUP list. “The MRI will be clear.
