Discussing the story of Baltimore through as many lenses as possible has always been our goal at Baltimore Positive.

Reverend Al Hathaway needs no introduction to anyone who has spent time in West Baltimore or near Union Baptist Church, which has been a centerpiece of the community since the 1860s.

This podcast was designed to allow folks to tell their whole story and Hathaway took us on a Baltimore journey that was unforgettable.

In Part One, Hathway discussed his life as a student at City College in the 1960 with classmates like Elijah Cummings and Kurt Schmoke and teachers like NFL great George Young.

Part Two takes us through the history of slavery and how Union Baptist Church was formed in 1865 and has served the people of West Baltimore.

And this third and final episode takes a deeper dive into the long history of how the church and the community have worked together in West Baltimore to overcome injustice.

As Nestor stated early in the podcast, weโ€™ve all seen Rev. Hathaway show up on a local corporate television station with a soundbite after an urban tragedy. This was our chance to get to know more about his story and his incredible work in our town.
