Dealing with neck inflammation for the better part of the last two weeks, Orioles outfielder Tyler O’Neill has been placed on the 10-day injured list.

Baltimore announced the move prior to the start of Saturday’s doubleheader in Detroit and recalled outfielder Dylan Carlson from Triple-A Norfolk to take his place on the 26-man roster. O’Neill has two hits and 13 strikeouts in his last 29 at-bats going back to April 9 and is batting .215 with two home runs, 10 RBIs, and a .668 on-base plus slugging percentage in 74 plate appearances this season. Despite being signed in large part because of his success against left-handed pitching over his career, O’Neill is 2-for-21 with 11 strikeouts against southpaws in 2025.

His injury history was a notable talking point when general manager Mike Elias signed the 29-year-old to a three-year, $49.5 million deal in the offseason. O’Neill has played in 100 or more games in a season just twice since making his major league debut in 2018, and he had three different IL stints with Boston last year as he dealt with a concussion, knee inflammation, and an infection in his leg.

O’Neill joins Colton Cowser (fractured thumb) as starting outfielders on Baltimore’s current IL.

In 79 plate appearances with Norfolk, Carlson was batting .286 with one homer, 11 RBIs, and a .799 OPS. He is 0-for-4 with one RBI, four strikeouts and a walk with Baltimore this season.
