BALTIMORE — Orioles manager Brandon Hyde had no update on the status of injured pitchers John Means and Tyler Wells, but the news was more encouraging for right-hander Dean Kremer.

Placed on the 15-day injured list with a right triceps strain last Friday, Kremer is expected to resume throwing in the near future, according to Hyde. The 28-year-old last pitched on May 20 when he allowed five earned runs in four innings in a 6-3 loss at St. Louis.

“He’s doing well,” Hyde said. “It’s getting a little bit better every day. The soreness has gone down. We should be expecting him to play catch here soon. So far, so good with him.”

Kremer pitched six one-hit innings in a May 5 win in Cincinnati to lower his season ERA to 3.57, but he had struggled over his last two starts, allowing eight earned runs over 9 2/3 frames to take two defeats. Over nine starts covering 50 innings this season, Kremer owns a 4.32 ERA and has averaged 8.8 strikeouts per nine frames.

Exiting last Wednesday’s start in St. Louis due to left elbow discomfort, Means was placed on the IL with what the club called a left forearm strain and returned to Baltimore to seek a second opinion on his elbow that was surgically repaired just 25 months ago. Wells has been on the IL with right elbow inflammation since April 16 and was recently cleared to begin playing catch in Sarasota, but Hyde’s tone made it unclear whether that was still happening.

“With all those guys, I’ll announce it to you guys when I have any sort of information regarding Wells or ‘Meansy,'” Hyde said. “But there’s nothing new to report with those guys right now.”
