Running for mayor while you are running back and forth to Annapolis is no easy task but State Senator Mary Washington feels like the effort is worth it because she believes in Baltimore.
This is the lengthier second half of our visit with two-term Delegate Washington, who has been involved politically for nearly two decades locally and is making her case for leaving Annapolis for Baltimore permanently as the mayor in 2020.
Water bills, cybersecurity, leadership, corruption and the future of our city were all on the agenda with the Philadelphia native who came to Baltimore and earned her Masters and PhD at Johns Hopkins and never left and chose to lead.
As the first openly LBGT African-American elected official in Maryland, we also discussed a strong community that has championed her candidacy from the beginning of her political career.
We are attempting to spend time with all of the major candidates for the mayor’s race on April 28th at Baltimore Positive.
We’ll also be hearing more from former T. Rowe Price and Obama administration leader Mary Miller as well as outgoing Downtown Partnership of Baltimore president Kirby Fowler.
And make sure you see our Episode 136 with the big news from our friends at Faidley’s of Lexington Market, who are opening a second location in Catonsville next spring.
