interesting. Be smart. Be funny.

And if you write the way Prince titles his songs, U won’t qualify 2 win.

My first advice to every college kid I ever meet is: write a blog. Start now. Get better. Write every day.

But you will be overwhelmed with advice and information over the next few weeks here at WNST.net as I personally give away the handbook on how to do this and all that it entails.

I went Google searching for “what makes a great sports talk show host?” on the internet and I found very few links. Here’s one on “traits needed to become a radio personality” and I’ll forewarn you that it stinks and isn’t even remotely accurate in today’s media universe but it certainly is the starter kit for anyone who wants to win the WNST Baltimore Sports Media Superstar competition at Buffalo Wild Wings next month.

Don’t worry. We’ll be providing far better information here at WNST.net over the coming weeks and some truly helpful hints from insiders as well.

Good luck.

I’m pulling for you…I really am!

Contest requirements

In the era of new media there are no “radio hosts” or “bloggers” or “TV reporters.” There are only people who have an audience and people who don’t. This contest is meant to simulate a real-time experience as a Baltimore sports media personality.

Blogging will open on April 14th and is expected to be supported by Twitter, hash-tagging and Facebook best practices for link sharing and promotion. (Let’s be honest if your friends, family and co-workers on Linked In don’t want to read your blogs then how can you convince strangers and Baltimore sports fans that your opinion is valued?)

Obviously, anyone can post instant vlogs as well in the era of Droids, IPads and IPhones, which are the best friend of anyone who wants to do sports media in 2014.

The in-studio auditions will last 20 minutes with introductions and a 5-minute monologue portion that will be live on WNST AM 1570 & WNST.net during afternoon drive time. They will also be available on our WNST YouTube channel for sharing and distribution.

The semifinals and finals will also be recorded, aired and served on our WNSTV video channel.

The best content, contributors and those who get heavy traffic to their media will move forward in the competition and garner the most influence.

Contest rules

Winner must be committed to hosting a weekly one-hour show on a weekend time slot this summer and/or fall on WNST.net. (Times/dates to be determined by WNST management in conjunction with winner’s schedule.)

Winners must be available at selected WNST events at Buffalo Wild Wings in April and May and must participate in all facets of competition – blogs, audio, video & social media marketing – to be eligible to win. This is NOT a “radio host” competition. WNST.net is a full service new media company and needs “superstars” who use the entire spectrum of media available on the internet in 2014.

Winner must be 18 years of age and a resident of the United States of America.

All judging and results are final.

HOW TO ENTER:

8

In 1,000 words or less, send your qualifications and reasons for wanting to participate in and win the Baltimore Sports Media Superstar competition presented by Hooters.

Please include background of your “sports life story” in the essay/blog. Essentially, this would be the first “introductory” blog to a Baltimore audience telling your unique story in your own words and why local listeners, readers and fans will want to listen to your show, read your work and follow your analysis of the sports scene in Maryland.

Who are you? And what makes YOU the next Baltimore Sports Media Superstar? And why would an advertiser want to sponsor your radio show or blog or videos or events?

Please send this essay (cut and pasted to the email and NOT as an attachment) as an email along with a current resume to:

nasty@wnst.net

Deadline is midnight April 13th for all applications…

Good luck!!!!

Twelve Ravens Thoughts following Week 16 win over Pittsburgh

Marlon Humphrey provided the cathartic moment that slammed the door as Baltimore beat the Steelers for just the second time in the last 10 meetings.

Ravens finish strong for 34-17 win over Pittsburgh to pull even in AFC North

Lamar Jackson threw three touchdowns and Derrick Henry rushed for 162 yards, but Marlon Humphrey's pick-6 allowed Baltimore to pull away.

ColumnNes: Big plays, big hits and Ravens showed no quit against Steelers

The Ravens talked all week about being locked in, and in the end, they were. Creating turnovers. And even landing on your own fumbles. It all matters this time of year. Turnovers turn over games. The Steelers made too many…
