12. Ken Gerhart

Arriving in the latter stages of fellow outfielder Mike Young trying to pan out as the next great Oriole, Gerhart was ranked as the top prospect in the Baltimore system by Baseball America in both 1986 and 1987, but that ended up being more a reflection of how pitiful the farm system had become by the mid-1980s.

Unlike Young who had enough major league success to avoid making the list, Gerhart was a total flop in the majors as he hit .221 in 676 plate appearances from 1986 through 1988 and became one of the symbols of Orioles ineptitude that culminated with an unthinkable 0-21 start in 1988.

Despite hitting 28 home runs for Rochester in 1986 and looking the part of a major league outfielder, Gerhart was largely outmatched and dealt with injuries before he was traded to San Francisco in the spring of 1989 and was out of baseball entirely soon thereafter.
