Rookie running back Lorenzo Taliaferro has reportedly become the latest player to contribute to a disturbing offseason for the Ravens after being arrested in Virginia over the weekend.
According to The Virginia Gazette and other reports, the 2014 fourth-round pick was charged with misdemeanor destruction of property and public drunkenness after allegedly breaking a window in a taxi cab. The arrest took place early Saturday morning in Williamsburg, Va.
A police officer reportedly saw Taliaferro and a group of people enter a taxi cab before the driver alerted him that the rookie had broken a window upon being told to exit for continuing to yell and swear inside the vehicle. Taliaferro allegedly left the scene upon exiting the cab but was arrested roughly a block away.
A team spokesman released the following statement responding to Taliaferro’s arrest:
“We’re aware of the situation and have discussed it with Lorenzo. He will have his due process and the opportunity to talk about what happened.”
Taliaferro becomes the fourth Ravens player to be arrested this offseason, joining running back Ray Rice, wide receiver Deonte Thompson, and offensive lineman Jah Reid. The Coastal Carolina product was the 138th overall selection in the 2014 draft earlier this month and is expected to compete for significant playing time with Rice likely facing a suspension from the NFL and backup Bernard Pierce still recovering from offseason shoulder surgery.
