Considering the extensive list of on-field absences during last month’s mandatory minicamp, the Ravens placing a handful of players on the active physically unable to perform list Saturday wasn’t all that surprising.
It also doesn’t mean anyone’s status is of significant long-term concern since any combination of these players can be cleared in time to participate in the first full-squad practice on Wednesday or at any point during training camp. That includes two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike as the news about his status for the upcoming season has remained encouraging since he underwent neck surgery in April. According to The Athletic, Madubuike has been cleared by independent doctors to return to the football field, but the Ravens still want to evaluate where he is from a conditioning standpoint and presumably bring him along slowly this summer.
Part of the group placed on the active PUP list that also includes defensive tackles Travis Jones and John Jenkins, inside linebacker Teddye Buchanan, outside linebacker Adisa Isaac, and cornerback Bilhal Kone, the 28-year-old Madubuike hasn’t played in a game or participated in practice since injuring his neck in Week 2 of the 2025 season. The Ravens sorely missed his presence on the defensive front last year as they finished tied for 28th in sacks (30) after ranking in the NFL’s top five in each of the previous three seasons when Madubuike registered a combined 25 sacks.
Buchanan (knee), Isaac (elbow), and Kone (knee) are all coming off season-ending injuries suffered last year while Jones and Jenkins missed on-field time during spring workouts. Baltimore placed backup offensive lineman Corey Bullock on the active non-football illness list, which also allows for a player to be cleared to return to practice at any point.
For what it’s worth, head coach Jesse Minter said last month that he was “very confident” every player on the roster would be “ready to go at the start of training camp.” Teams regularly place players with preexisting injuries on the active PUP list upon reporting for training camp since it serves as a procedural move to maintain eligibility for the reserve PUP, which is the version of the list that requires an individual to miss regular-season games while not counting against the 53-man roster.
With veterans scheduled to report to Owings Mills on Tuesday, general manager Eric DeCosta has made a number of recent roster moves headlined by the signing of veteran center Ethan Pocic to address the roster’s biggest question mark. The Ravens also brought back 2016 fourth-round pick Chris Moore to compete at wide receiver and on special teams and signed veteran offensive lineman Hakeem Adeniji.
Moore, 33, spent the first five seasons of his career in Baltimore and appeared in 14 games for Washington last year, making 11 catches for 207 yards and a touchdown. The 28-year-old Adeniji appeared in 12 games and made one start for Dallas in 2025 and has played NFL snaps at four offensive line positions over the course of his six-year career.
To make room on the 90-man preseason roster for the aforementioned additions, the Ravens waived undrafted rookie quarterback Diego Pavia, punter Luke Elzinga, and 2025 practice-squad guard Jared Penning.
