What I learned sitting on the roof in Houston and watching Ravens beat Texans in an empty stadium

How committed is Nestor Aparicio to covering the Baltimore Ravens as a lifelong journalist? He left BWI during the plague traveling to Houston along with just one other local journalist to cover a game before there was a vaccine in vacant NRG Stadium. Read his #ColumnNes report back from when “The Knee” was a thing that got NFL players blackballed and football was the only thing open for business during a worldwide pandemic.

#ColumnNes Who in the purple congregation still believes – and why?

After doing bustrips and roadtrips for a quarter of a century to playoff games all over the country and taking tens of thousands of our citizens along, I really wondered if there’s anyone who wants to get on the bus to Cincinnati this weekend believing the Ravens will still be in the tournament at midnight on Sunday night?

#ColumnNes The purple renegades answered the song with heroics in Pittsburgh

When Tommy Shaw starts the “Oh, mama” refrain of “Renegade,” it usually provides a spark of life for the black and gold faithful that spills from the stands and Terrible Towels onto the grass. The Steelers even exhumed Wiz Whalifa to sing that horrific song at halftime – and it still didn’t matter!

#ColumnNes Snooping around for the narrative in a gritty, season-defining win for Ravens

No, it’s not a time for sweeping narratives but the story of the Baltimore Ravens right now is uncertainty and the path to win the division actually going through the division over the next month in a unique scheduling model that was thought to be a benefit until it’s actually Pittsburgh Week and you don’t know who your quarterback is going to be until you see an MRI.

#ColumnNes How many meltdowns are too many for self-destructing Ravens?

When Lamar Jackson plays poorly – and most of Sunday was another poor effort throwing the ball where he actually wanted to throw it, especially the long ball – the Baltimore Ravens are going to have a whole lot of trouble trying to finish football games against competent competition.

#ColumnNes There are no bad wins over Bill Belichick in Foxboro

But don’t bury the lead in this one: Lamar Jackson (still) might be the best player in the National Football League and his “value” as a Most Valuable Player continues to soar as he does things no one has ever done at the most valuable position on the field and the most difficult position to play in all of sports.
