Dear Nasty,

I’m sending you this email to thank you for recognizing my baseball memory as the winner. I was looking for a forum to let my dad know exactly how much he means and has meant to me throughout my life. WNST provided that forum for me and I greatly appreciate the chance. After hearing from numerous family and friends that I had won and reading my entry on wnst.net, my dad called me and told me he was honored. You gave me the ability to tribute my dad. Thank you.

Hey Mike:

To show you how ASTUTE the WNST.net reader is, I got this letter less than an hour after you were awarded the grand prize…

Geez…24 years!! Has it been that long???

I would’ve had NO GUESS who hit that ball although I remember the video and the Kittle’s tirade VERY well. And it came up when he came here for his cup of coffee a few years later…I was sitting in the RIGHT FIELD bleachers that day, way up top!

Of course, Bob Haynie probably knew RIGHT AWAY that it was Roenicke…

Anyway, VERY, VERY soon I won’t have to post these letters here because you’ll able to post them yourselves with your own name and picture attached. If anyone is interested in being a sportswriter on WNST.net, please drop me a note…we’re expanding!

The all-new WNST.net is gonna rock…stay tuned…

In the meantime, here’s Tom’s "friendly yet detailed" note…

I published it for the "memories" and the box score as much for the accuracy…

As Kevin Cronin once sang, "And the tales grow taller on down the line…" LOL…

Hey Nestor,
That was a great idea about the baseball memories contest.  However, there was one MAJOR mistake in the winner’s story.  It’s no big deal really but I thought I would point it out to you.  When I first heard the guy’s story on the radio this morning, I clearly remembered the play and WHO hit that ball.  I recall Kittle moving back on the warning track and then beer flying out of the stands above (I was watching the game at home).  Gary Roenicke hit that baseball not Eddie Murray as the guy said in his story.  As a matter of fact, Murray went hitless in both playoff games at home in 1983 against the Sox.  I knew it was Roenicke because he doubled and homered in game 2 and it was the double in the top of the 2nd inning that involved Kittle getting doused in beer.  I’ve seen this replay a few times before and I clearly remembered Roenicke hitting that ball so I decided to google the 1983 playoffs and that confirmed what I thought all along.  I’ve attached a brief summary of the game below that I copied from my research.  I’m surprised no one at WNST remembered Roenicke hitting that ball not Murray, although that game did take place almost 25 years ago.  My research also confirmed thatMurray went hitless in both games in Baltimore.  Again, it’s no big deal, the guy’s story and his sharing those memories with his Dad is what counts the most.  I just thought I would point it out to you. Keep up the great work.  I enjoy listening to your station every day.  A copy of the box score and partial summary from Game 2 of the 1983 Playoffs is below.  Take care!
