BALTIMORE — Aiming to keep their AFC North championship hopes alive and to eliminate Pittsburgh from postseason contention, the Ravens were without an additional Pro Bowl talent for their Sunday night tilt with Pittsburgh.

After ruling out superstar quarterback Lamar Jackson (knee) and cornerback Marcus Peters (calf) for Week 17 on Friday, Baltimore deactivated six-time Pro Bowl defensive end Calais Campbell (knee) for a second straight game. Wearing a bulky brace on his left knee, the 36-year-old was able to complete a pregame workout supervised by members of the training staff and did return to practice on a limited basis Friday, but he ultimately wasn’t cleared to play against the Steelers. Veteran reserve Brent Urban played a season-high 28 snaps in last week’s win over Atlanta and was again expected to play a larger role in Campbell’s absence.

The Ravens also deactivated veteran tight end Nick Boyle, who missed practices on Thursday and Friday because of an illness. As a result, rookie tight end Charlie Kolar was active and set to make his NFL debut after being a healthy scratch for six consecutive games since being activated from injured reserve in November.

Reserve offensive lineman Trystan Colon was also inactive after missing multiple practices because of a personal matter this past week. In his absence, the versatile Patrick Mekari will serve as the backup center, and left guard Ben Powers also practices snapping periodically after practices.

Rookie outside linebacker David Ojabo was deactivated and has now been a healthy scratch in back-to-back games since making his NFL debut and playing only one defensive snap at Cleveland on Dec. 17.

With Jackson inactive for a fourth straight game, the Ravens signed rookie quarterback Anthony Brown to the 53-man roster from the practice squad on Saturday. Brown had been elevated the maximum three times to back up Tyler Huntley.

Rookie defensive lineman Rayshad Nichols was elevated from the practice squad and set to make his NFL debut with Baltimore needing additional depth on the defensive line in Campbell’s absence. The Ravens also elevated wide receiver Andy Isabella from the practice squad for a second straight game.

Podcasts, Pearl Jam passion and the present tense with The Mayne Event

They met on the backstretch at Pimlico three decades ago and The Mayne Event always returns and never disappoints for sports, comedy, charity and why Eddie Vedder shouldn't trust Nestor. Longtime ESPNer Kenny Mayne checks in for another round of tales of wiffle ball with Ken Griffey, podcasts with the other Manning and still being pissed off about the Sonics (and Pilots) departure from Seattle.

Running back Tampa 25 years later with Ravens RB coach Matt Simon

These milestones continue to add up as the 25th anniversary of the Baltimore Ravens' Super Bowl XXXV win is coming later this month and Nestor is catching up with many of the Purple Reign legacies about life – on and off the field – as we celebrate the night we all felt the civic pride of that first miracle in Tampa. Reflections here with the man who coached Jamal Lewis, Priest Holmes, Sam Gash and Femi Ayanbadejo a quarter of a century ago.

Firing the head coach and changing leadership will certainly create an interesting offseason in Owings Mills. No one covers the Xs and Os of the NFL like Mike Tanier of Too Deep Zone. The one-time geometry teacher of Joe Flacco joins Nestor to discuss the depth and salary cap numbers of the Baltimore Ravens roster and the structural changes Eric DeCosta will need even after Steve Bisciotti finds a new captain to lead Lamar Jackson.
