Bynes, McClellan absent from practice for second straight day

OWINGS MILLS, Md. — The Ravens continued to look in good shape from a health standpoint Thursday as linebackers Josh Bynes and Albert McClellan were the only players absent from practice. Continuing preparations for Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Ravens saw the return of defensive end Chris Canty (thigh) to practice after he was listed as a non-participant on Wednesday’s report. It was believed that Canty simply received a day off to rest as he was upgraded to full participation on Thursday. Bynes is dealing with an infected finger and a thigh injury, but coach John Harbaugh painted a positive prognosis for the 24-year-old linebacker prior to Wednesday’s practice. McClellan hasn’t taken part in a practice since the week leading up to the Week 4 loss in Buffalo as he continues to nurse a shoulder injury, but the special-teams standout has played in each of the last two games. Ravens re-sign TE Bajema (again), part ways with RB Draughn

In what’s almost become an amusing game for the Ravens’ 53-man roster, veteran tight end Billy Bajema has been re-signed for the third time this season. Third-string running back and kick returner Shaun Draughn was waived to make room for Bajema, who was re-signed shortly before the season after being released at the end of the summer and played in the Ravens’ first four games. He was released for a second time when the Ravens completed the trade for new left tackle Eugene Monroe last week but was then re-signed over the weekend when wide receiver Brandon Stokley hadn’t recovered from a groin injury. Bajema was released for a third time this year on Tuesday when Stokley was invited back to the roster. The 30-year-old tight end has one catch for 18 yards this season and has primarily served as an extra blocker in the running game. Though not eligible to return until after this week’s game against the Green Bay Packers, Ravens linebacker Jameel McClain appears to be moving closer to his return to football. Currently on the reserve physically unable to perform list as he recovers from a spinal cord contusion, McClain has been medically cleared to resume playing football, according to a report from The Sun. McClain suffered the injury last Dec. 9 against the Washington Redskins and hasn’t played since despite working out and attending meetings at the team’s Owings Mills facility. McClain may resume practicing as early as next week and will have a 21-day window in which to practice once he steps back on the practice field. However, the sixth-year linebacker can be placed back on the 53-man roster sooner than that if the Ravens deem him ready. “We’ll just keep taking the MRIs, and when the MRI is clear, then he’ll go,” said coach John Harbaugh in late August before McClain was placed on the reserve PUP list. “The MRI will be clear. Osemele sidelined with back spasms early in first half

A Ravens offensive line already struggling through the first quarter of the season played a man down for much of their 26-23 win over the Dolphins on Sunday as left guard Kelechi Osemele was sidelined with back spasms. Osemele played in the Ravens’ opening offensive series before being removed for the remainder of the game. The team did not announce an injury for Osemele during the contest, but coach John Harbaugh offered clarity on his status following the win at Sun Life Stadium. “He was tightened up in pre-game and we tried to get him in the game,” Harbaugh said. “We had already set the 46-man roster. He went the first series. He couldn’t go, and that’s why we made the change to A.Q. Shipley.” The injury left the Ravens with just one healthy reserve lineman — rookie tackle Rick Wagner — as newly-acquired left tackle Eugene Monroe and third-year lineman Jah Reid were among the inactives in Week 5. The Ravens were also shorthanded at the wide receiver position as both Jacoby Jones (knee) and Marlon Brown (hamstring) were out with injuries.
