In 2019, former NBA player and coach Don Chaney was diagnosed with the hereditary form of a rare, life-threatening condition called transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy, or ATTR-CM. If Don’s story sounds familiar, it may be time to talk to your doctor about ATTR-CM.

  • Genetic testing for ATTR-CM is only appropriate for those who have already been diagnosed with ATTR-CM, and need to determine what type they have, or for people who have a family member who has already been diagnosed with ATTR-CM. Just wanted to clarify as an addition to this great chat with Coach Cheney, that not everyone needs to get tested genetically.
