Though the secondary got the best of the passing offense on Monday — with cornerback Lardarius Webb pulling in a highlight interception on a Flacco pass intended for LaQuan Williams — the play of the day came from Smith, who made a beautiful catch over cornerback Corey Graham on a deep sideline route.
Overall, the Baltimore defense thrived even though it was without safety Ed Reed and cornerback Jimmy Smith. The front seven brought consistent pressure as defensive linemen Haloti Ngata and Pernell McPhee received a great number of reps after being limited late last week.
Linebacker Albert McClellan received the first-team reps opposite Paul Kruger as the two switched back and forth between the strongside and rush linebacker positions. Sergio Kindle worked with the second defense for most of the workout.
The kicking competition produced another stellar day as both Billy Cundiff and Justin Tucker were a perfect 4-for-4 as each connected on tries from 19, 35, 42, and 48 yards during one period.
Rookie cornerback Asa Jackson struggled as a returner on Monday as he muffed two punts to the chagrin of special teams coordinator Jerry Rosburg. Veteran receiver Jacoby Jones is expected to be the primary punt returner and is listed in the top spot on the depth chart.
