With the Lamar Jackson situation still wayward and Odell Beckham Jr. in the fold, what does it mean that the owner of the Baltimore Ravens got personally involved in bringing the soon-to-be 31-year old, well-traveled wide receiver to Owings Mills? Dennis Koulatsos and Nestor discuss merits of the OBJ signing and whether it makes Ravens a Super Bowl contender.

W and S T Towson Baltimore and Baltimore positive I donโ€™t say it often enough at the beginning of the segments but make sure youโ€™re setting a spot on your car dial for us. Iโ€™m in my own car Iโ€™m number six right behind I do Iโ€™m an order 98 Rock the bay we just put us on I was down at the bait 10 On opening day on Friday giving them some lie so everybody from the banks that bro heart He owes me some and his son shot the heart heartache tonight video with the Eagles the other night so if you see into the bay guys yell at them, tell him I said hello. Iโ€™m wearing my pappy shirt on the webcam. Weโ€™re gonna be up at Pappas in Harford County. The new Bellaire locational Thursday giving away these instant lottery scratch offs. We had so much fun last week with our friends window nation 8669 You should be starting to cost this. We had an unbelievable kickoff for the 50th anniversary of the Maryland lottery. My dear friend chichi Papadopoulos cause he joined us my friend Anthony Adams, everybody on the show was Greek except me at cost. So Wednesday, so you know it was a good show. The food was good. Weโ€™re gonna be able to Pappas eating crab cakes on Thursday. That is Colossus join the speakers have friends who were Greek weโ€™re opening day and enjoying things around here this week. And whatโ€™s Greek Easter did I miss that one?

Dennis Koulatsos  01:11

Weโ€™re one week behind this year at Nesta Sunday with a pump Sunday and so weโ€™re one week behind

Nestor Aparicio  01:17

when I live with Johnny Rafa. Letus I always got pastizzi Oh, and I got Musa ca and I got all these great things. Now I have to stay stay connected with all this. You went out into the sunlight on Friday for Oriole baseball over the weekend, but I think I donโ€™t know where you were on Easter night and the masters. I was with my wife watching John ROM or whatever you know, and the wn S T tech service goes off ROTC by coons Baltimore for security Boulevard. And I thought the Morris Delta the Colts right like I mean every time it happens, and I know youโ€™re on a tech service, so what do you think when it happens? You donโ€™t think itโ€™s Odell Beckham Jr. So you

Dennis Koulatsos  01:54

know not never never thought that would comment the mess rattles I donโ€™t think any one of us saw that coming he was going to the jets to meet with them the Ravens had an offer on the table didnโ€™t think it would be a great offer right because he was still shopping his services but lo and behold, he stopped the trip because the jet said look weโ€™re not going to match and so he was wasting his time. Big announcement right then the timing of it I thought was that was interesting.

Nestor Aparicio  02:21

What what do you make of all this come on now donโ€™t make me wait for Thursday for your show is all about

Dennis Koulatsos  02:25

Lamar Jackson. Thatโ€™s what it seems to be theyโ€™re theyโ€™re trying to entice to sweeten the pot. For Lamar Jackson they they sign this Nelson Aguilar, and now youโ€™re bringing it obj theyโ€™re hoping for a healthy Rashad Bateman, youโ€™ve got Todd Monken with his new offense, thatโ€™s going to open it up and put the best player, arguably the best bass player in NFL history, take them out of the phone booth that Greg Roman hadnโ€™t had put them in. And now thereโ€™s, thereโ€™s a glimmer of hope that Lamar will come, come and show up. I donโ€™t think this means nestra They extend him Iโ€™m gonna think this means that we wonโ€™t be in the same situation next year. Because I think this is just a move to appease Lamar, just to see what they have with a new offensive coordinator with some better receivers. I think theyโ€™re still drafted ultra wide receiver high, perhaps the first or third round or the second round if they happen to trade back. But I think this is all about Lamar Jackson. Thatโ€™s what I think.

Nestor Aparicio  03:20

Well, I mean, but what does it mean in its was he really walking through the building the last few years saying, I want to throw more, I want to throw more, I want to throw more I want to throw more I want to throw what is that really what he wanted to do?

Dennis Koulatsos  03:33

Maybe because I think are some frustration his part Hollywood brown wanted out because of the run first offense. Hidden Hurst wanted out because he was invisible to Lamar Jackson when Marc Andreessen was on the field. So there was some concern with the offense wide receivers, saying they donโ€™t want to come here not because of Lamar, but because of the scheme. So yeah, I think there was some, some hesitation on his part in regards to the direction that the offense was going into. So I

Nestor Aparicio  04:00

donโ€™t think John Harbaugh recruited Todd Monken saying, Oh, he wants coached obj we might get OG obj at at a discount or something. I mean, thereโ€™s no discount here. They will die is bitter. Nobody else wanted him anywhere near that price would have paid him. I mean, after the draft, nobody would have wanted him because they all love their own. Nelson Aguilar, their own Devin DuVernay, their own James crochet, right like so. All of this is, hereโ€™s my thoughts, Dennis and Iโ€™m starting to write my column this again, this is everything I wrote before I had Luke on Monday morning. Engraving like this is desperation born out of frustration and some failure with drafting wide receivers. Heโ€™s almost 31 heโ€™s working on his fourth franchise. I mean, this is a distraction from the meal the meal is is Lamar Jackson long term, or is Lamar Jackson going to come and play for 32 million a summer after smart guys like you and me and Lana Raskin told him not play for 20

Dennis Koulatsos  04:58

Well, weโ€™ll have to see because again, Weโ€™ll have to see what it looks like in the pro style offense like he did in Louisville. They may catch lightning in the bottle. The other thing about the one thing I like about the signing of Odell Beckham Jr. Nestor is he knows the offense heโ€™s that veteran you bring in, heโ€™ll be able to line up the young wide receivers heโ€™s also an alpha heโ€™s got the swagger heโ€™s got to struggling to get the Super Bowl ring. He does have a resume that commands attention although heโ€™s only I think heโ€™s caught only about 800 yards the last three years but he has a name and Iโ€™m sure theyโ€™re gonna sell a lot of obj jerseys in Baltimore for sure

Nestor Aparicio  05:32

okay but what does that mean I mean you know what how does this get Lamar back well thatโ€™s that that I talked about intelligent convert how what does this do internally to make to motivate Lamar Jackson to come back and play for an insulting contract and offer sheet that he is

Dennis Koulatsos  05:53

he has unique cat heโ€™s one of one heโ€™s he listens to himself and himself only he trusts himself and his mother only and and thatโ€™s not being disrespectful Iโ€™m just spitting out facts here what store so it seems but it looks like itโ€™s a lower itโ€™s a lower like efficient lower to the bass to get him to bite you know, official lot and we saw them on Instagram having a love fest the Lamar and obj so thereโ€™s a glimmer of hope for the the Ravens fan base de la Mora will show up motivated in shape. And what about the knee? Weโ€™ve heard to zero but the rehab howโ€™s it Nia, howโ€™s that knee doing?

Nestor Aparicio  06:27

Well, I saw him with the gym two weeks ago, he was out there doing stuff with that home gym, right the

Dennis Koulatsos  06:31

entire gym. Okay, the entire

Nestor Aparicio  06:33

gym, right? The whole gym.

Dennis Koulatsos  06:36

Thatโ€™s just not the partial gym but the entire gym. Look, the partial gym will cost you itโ€™s pretty 99 but the entire gym will cost you 699. Right. What a deal. What a deal. But yeah, letโ€™s see where this thing goes. Nesta. i Theyโ€™ve overpaid. We all agree upon that. And itโ€™s a high risk. high reward. I mean,

Nestor Aparicio  06:57

are they gonna win without Odell Beckham this year? Can they win a Super Bowl as control

Dennis Koulatsos  07:01

if Rashad Bateman is healthy and if they can draft a wide receiver that can step up and but they have enough defense special teams and often they can get it done. I mean, it does. It does help them potentially but you see there

Nestor Aparicio  07:14

Shannon Sharpe Is he the difference maker that

Dennis Koulatsos  07:17

Shannon Trump was a workout warrior. He was healthy and he was always available right? We always talked about the best ability is availability. And Shannon Sharpe was available. He was a dog. You know now obj had two aces coming off with two ACLs heโ€™s 31 Weโ€™ll see how much juice he has in a tank but it does energize I think it energizing tyre. Baltimore fan base, It energized the NFL because the Lamar Jackson is still the biggest story out there. Bigger than the Masters still.

Nestor Aparicio  07:46

That is Kalonzo says here. He will be here again on Thursday again on Sunday mornings part of the Sunday Sports voice. If you hear him around your Friday and Saturday, just he and I and Luke wrapping his part of his show. But he is first time on Thursday between three and five hope you check him out. And obviously Spring has sprung and they got 0% on some deals. And so get on out to coons bottom before we talk about it all the time. But I want to stay on point here and on leadership. And on I always check the little C level box with a Dennis collartz Those conversations for our business conversation because you run a business. You run a business a long time you view these things differently, as do I steep a shoddy I woke up at five in the morning on Monday and Josefina Anderson, who is wired to OBJ Obj. Steve was on the phone with me. Last time, Steve get Steve to get on the phone and get Steve Smithโ€™s evening get on the phone and get Trevor probably like Steve getting on the what does that mean at this point because he likes to stay behind the scene and say Iโ€™m not the act of owner and recruitment. What is Steve Bashaud he say on the phone to Odell Beckham Jr.

Dennis Koulatsos  08:48

Yeah, according to their Cena heโ€™d been talking to LBJ for the last heโ€™d been recruiting him for the last two years, which I thought I found very interesting, particularly since youโ€™ve correctly pointed out that CB shotty hadnโ€™t been available to the media for how many years now? He hadnโ€™t. He hadnโ€™t spoken but I thought it was fascinating that Steve was shot he had been involved in the process, not just a stroke on the check, right? I mean, the final says his but in the act of recruitment of Odell Beckham Jr. I thought that was great because I thought Steve was on the ball. But I thought he was sitting on his boat, drinking whatever and enjoying a cigar. But it looks like heโ€™s very involved in the in the day to day affairs of the Baltimore Ravens.

Nestor Aparicio  09:24

Well, itโ€™s certainly one that infers that now it doesnโ€™t it and it will also infer that if youโ€™re important enough, you get a phone call from the owner and you get recruited by the owner. Itโ€™s a weird kind of different precedent and Iโ€™m not saying listen in the world that this these NBA mindsets, and weโ€™re gonna have a dream team and weโ€™re gonna be on Instagram an hour after you get $15 million. And now Iโ€™m gonna Iโ€™m gonna get you your money dog. You know what I mean? But I donโ€™t know. If Lamar had an agent, this wouldnโ€™t move, Lamar. If Lamar was getting good advice. Theyโ€™d say theyโ€™re doing what they should have been doing all along. Now pay me

Dennis Koulatsos  09:57

now pay me but donโ€™t disagree with you, but theyโ€™re getting the opera Get to a different level. And the other thing my super shot is back when Ray Lewis was with the team, it was not an unusual sight to see Ray and Steve courtside at a Terps game. Right. So Steve has always had some connection with some players, not all players and levels that I that I, you know, I didnโ€™t particularly like, you know, because of favoritism and the ability to not remain objective when it comes to negotiating a contract.

Nestor Aparicio  10:24

Well, and part of that is also with recruitment. I mean, Brady Anderson was loyal to Peter Angelos 30 years later, and to the kids 30 years later, after sitting up Ocasio and negotiating his first multimillion dollar deal in 1995. Because Peter was involved, right? And listen, I own a company, Mr. Coons owns your place. And you would say, Mr. Coons, itโ€™s your place, right. And I feel the same way. I they can operate in any way they want. Iโ€™m asking for the same thing I asked for from the beginning. Accountability, integrity, honesty, front facing whenever possible. If youโ€™re trying to shield an injury to beat Pittsburgh this weekend. I accept that to some degree as a reporter to some degree. I think now that youโ€™re fixing games and wagering on them. And when I say fixing your the referees, itโ€™s your game. Itโ€™s your dice game NFL. So if youโ€™re going to be putting out bad information to gamblers, and you have the referees that decide whether the field goal is good or not, or whether the penalty sticks or not, or whether itโ€™s a foul at the end of the game, or whatever it is. Thereโ€™s a lot of elements of all of this, that I would say they need to be really careful about accountability and integrity. Maybe they donโ€™t, I donโ€™t know. Maybe they can just lie and lie and lie. But they did have their communications guy get up. So Dennis, I put this to you. And Iโ€™m not even being a smartass. And I said the letter rascal long ago, I said, hereโ€™s where I begin to urinate into the conversation a little bit. So letโ€™s just say that Lamar canโ€™t go anywhere. Because he canโ€™t nobody else wants it. Right. Weโ€™ve weโ€™re kind of at that point. Nobody else wants him right now. He has this offer sheet he has to sign that he hasnโ€™t signed, when he will, when he wonโ€™t OTAs the coach wants him to get into meet the new offensive coordinator. And if I were Lamar is agent, Iโ€™d say you donโ€™t meet Todd Monken until we have to under $32 million of guaranteed money or whatever the number that you want is, if itโ€™s three years at 160 For now, guaranteed. Like whatever that gets you a lot of money and as much flexibility as you can have the sign another contract wherever that Darrell Rivas scale is right or whatever, whoever hbJ does pulled off, which was a heist. Youโ€™re right. I mean, like he got more than anybody was willing to give him. But Iโ€™ll just say this, the notion that theyโ€™re a PR guy, just threw everybody up against it last week in front of the world. Now, Lamar is going to come in to the next press conference, and John Harbaugh, and theyโ€™re going to be whatever they fix it. What questions are the reporters not allowed to ask when that happens? Whatโ€™s the next round of questions that that are off the record? Look, I

Dennis Koulatsos  13:00

think youโ€™ll find them more willing to enter questions when things are going well, when things arenโ€™t going well. So

Nestor Aparicio  13:07

that tells me a lot about your integrity that youโ€™ve just spelled out everyone I would never trust in the world. Right? Like literally, well, youโ€™re just pointing out of it. But my dad would have told me avoid those people, that when the weatherโ€™s good, theyโ€™re gonna be honest with you, right? When things are bad when you need them the most, theyโ€™re gonna lie and disappear. And no questions.

Dennis Koulatsos  13:26

Thatโ€™s like, I like a measure of adversity everywhere because then you see what you have, right? The you can see the best captains appear when theyโ€™re storms out there when the seas are calm, and the weather is nice. And everybodyโ€™s a great captain, right? The tide is high, that type gets low and as rocks all over the place, and thereโ€™s wind and thatโ€™s an boats are capsizing thatโ€™s when you see what you really have Nestor. So I think adversity can be good at times to assess what youโ€™re dealing with. Whether youโ€™re an owner, a fan and employee, or what have you. Did you

Nestor Aparicio  13:58

see the look on Harbaughโ€™s face? Did you see his lip go? Like this at the pray and to constant look like he was gonna cry? How about

Dennis Koulatsos  14:07

me I shift I bet I bet the eye shift of heart but to the left or to the right rather just like oh, like what happened. But you canโ€™t central the media. And there shouldnโ€™t be any questions off the table. Not in a transparent organization. You can ask whatever, you

Nestor Aparicio  14:22

know, we can ask about things because like, I mean, yeah, now you

Dennis Koulatsos  14:25

can ask, but and I donโ€™t know why. I donโ€™t know why juicy and they would put out there that Steve was shot he has been in constant communication with with obj the last two years. I donโ€™t know why

Nestor Aparicio  14:35

she would put that up because obj gave that to her. Sheโ€™s allegedly a reporter. Okay.

Dennis Koulatsos  14:40

One of the networks, all right. But again, you know, she puts out trying to

Nestor Aparicio  14:43

break news. Sheโ€™s breaking news for us.

Dennis Koulatsos  14:45

Okay, so sheโ€™s not covering up information that thatโ€™s useful to us fans. And look, I thought, I donโ€™t

Nestor Aparicio  14:52

think sheโ€™s in contact with the shots. I think sheโ€™s in contact. I think obj said to her shot. Heโ€™s been on the phone with me trying to get me to do this.

Dennis Koulatsos  15:00

So I thought the sale was the cost of maybe an mungkin trying to sell Bushati on obj understanding that he would have final say and signing the contract that he wanted. I didnโ€™t realize that Steve was that involved with recruiting, which, again, I find fascinating that he would that he would be involved at that level. That is wrong, but heโ€™s involved

Nestor Aparicio  15:20

if thereโ€™s anything else that you have on your purple mind right now get it in because Iโ€™m about to move in a direction that you and I donโ€™t move in a lot over 20 years Iโ€™m about to move toward baseball here because you we did spend some time with it. I want to talk about Springsteen and eagles and and all that. But like as far as the Ravens It is amazing that they move to the back page after that chats deal disgrace on Wednesday, that by Thursday, itโ€™s raining and 80 degrees and theyโ€™re not playing then Friday. Everybodyโ€™s downtown and everybody wants shook their ass either was Earth Wind and Fire had a crowd Springsteen out of crowd my wife and I went to the Eagles then there was the masters and Easter and all of this stuff that and then youโ€™ll be Jay. Oh, like, oh, the Oreos are like number five, like quickly all of a sudden right in the last couple of games.

Dennis Koulatsos  16:04

Now you make excellent points are necessary. Right? Right. You are because we went to the ball game and we sat close to Cal Ripken, Salah and a lot of texts and phone calls during the game like you got it all over the TV. And Iโ€™m like, Thatโ€™s great. Thatโ€™s wonderful. i What a great opener. It was 76 victory by the Orioles and dropped the homestand to the Yankees. But itโ€™s nice to get back downtown. Itโ€™s nice to get out to the ballpark, particularly on a decent day

Nestor Aparicio  16:27

would have been better on Thursday. Right? We can all say that.

Dennis Koulatsos  16:31

Hey, thatโ€™s pleat please tell me the other young players Iโ€™m falling in love with like rutschman and then the rest of them. Please tell me that the Orioles are going to extend them when when the time comes time to give him a big contract.

Nestor Aparicio  16:41

Well, weโ€™re weakened to the staff to prove themselves status. Come on. Okay.

Dennis Koulatsos  16:45

Yeah. Once they prove themselves, letโ€™s say they become the real deal. Are they going to become New York Yankees?

Nestor Aparicio  16:51

Incredible dude, theyโ€™re three days into the season and you want them reopened these guys?

Dennis Koulatsos  16:55

For the first time I hear that I know the names of the of the starting lineup. I know the names of the pitchers.

Nestor Aparicio  16:59

8

Iโ€™ve seen John Angeles the last two weeks and youโ€™re really afraid of them screwing it up.

Dennis Koulatsos  17:03

Iโ€™m invested. Yes, Iโ€™m trying to be lessened. Iโ€™m trying to guard my investment, I guess

Nestor Aparicio  17:08

trying to be invested in you want to know that. Thereโ€™s somebody captaining the ship that that is responsible. I donโ€™t

Dennis Koulatsos  17:15

want to see it another Manny Machado situation where Mandy goes off to the west coast and continues to do great things in somebody elseโ€™s uniform. You know, weโ€™d like our homegrown heroes. Thatโ€™s why we love Cal Ripken so much.

8

Nestor Aparicio  17:25

You know, a lot of alphas out there that would say Mr. Bashaud, he just upped the ante. Heโ€™s getting involved now and sign and players. We want John Angeloโ€™s more involved, and Iโ€™m thinking I was here when they signed Sid Fernandez and Chris Saibot. Because he he told the old man, so like there is thereโ€™s a point of all of this where I am concerned. And Iโ€™m in the middle of writing a columnist and Iโ€™m about to re release the Peter principles beginning next week as well. Just to show everybody where weโ€™ve been and why when press conferences happen. You need me I donโ€™t want to go Jack Nicholson. You need me on the wall. You need somebody in there. Iโ€™ve weโ€™ve lost franchises around here weโ€™ve been lied to. And then last week, we had the guy stand up and the ball, the coach and the general manager in the middle of it. That was the strangest part. Itโ€™s like whoโ€™s the captain around? Hereโ€™s Chad Steele running the team. And the Orioles had an owner step out and run all around radio make a fool of himself, quite frankly, in an amateur hour kind of way. Really. I mean, beaten up the sun while heโ€™s on the radio jumping on the fan five minutes after they went on. I mean, things that are not strategize Johnโ€™s just running by the seat of his pants. Thatโ€™s not going to work out well. And I could see why youโ€™re concerned. I mean, they canceled opening day on an 82 degree. That wasnโ€™t even a good decision.

Dennis Koulatsos  18:40

That turned out not to be the rain held off. But it was it was good to see back on the field. He was interacting with the governor, the governor, our jack Governor couldnโ€™t get the ball to the plate on.

Nestor Aparicio  18:51

Whatโ€™s another story? Travis Kelce out nuclear when you saw Yeah, Kelsey, that

Dennis Koulatsos  18:56

8

was a mouthful, but itโ€™s a lot of fun being out at the Kennedy yards and just taking it in. And the crowd was the crowd was very much electric, at least on opening day. They were all into it. And it was a lot of fun.

Nestor Aparicio  19:08

I agree. 100%. I said the same thing with Luke. And I know you and Luke did a long segment. He and I did a pretty long segment this week about pace of play. The games change a lot. When you went out there. You recognize the game more as when your family came from Greece and you were a kid and youโ€™re sitting out there and Chip Palmerโ€™s pitching. And there was their pitching. Theyโ€™re throwing the ball. Theyโ€™re hitting the ball they stay with the game people stay with the game young people can learn the game I find on TV, they donโ€™t have as much to say between pitches. Because thatโ€™s a strike. Thatโ€™s a ball heโ€™s got it back. Theyโ€™re not stepping off the mound and grabbing the rosin and getting out of it. Thereโ€™s not Yeah, I think game is much more of the focus in the way that football after the the tackles made. They get back in the huddle. Youโ€™re thinking itโ€™s third Nate, whatโ€™s happening. Whatโ€™s the subpackage Whatโ€™s the play? Theyโ€™re up at the line of scrimmage? Thereโ€™s the replay RT he was in bed, theyโ€™re hiking the ball again. I And you stay with it and then baseball has lost that Dennis and to have it back for a couple of days and watch it again my wife and I were watching the game on Sunday and it was like we were staying with it it because it was moving

Dennis Koulatsos  20:13

no it wasnโ€™t moving I was flipping between that on the masters and unfortunately the Orioles dropped one but yeah itโ€™s a different game and I love all the improvements that they made. I didnโ€™t thereโ€™s not a real change that they made that I dislike

Nestor Aparicio  20:25

none of it even well the guy Oh second base and a 10th and you donโ€™t like that nobody I liked that

Dennis Koulatsos  20:29

actually I liked I liked the golf segment. I donโ€™t want to be there for 20 innings I liked the base enough was enough. I mean itโ€™s got a college softball college softball right lady softball and they have a run rule right you get if you donโ€™t get if youโ€™re up by eight by the end of the fifth inning, the game is over. You run ruled right. So I donโ€™t want to see that. I donโ€™t want to see them tap out up to the seventh inning. So I think the next best thing is in order to keep the game reasonable is to put them in a second base. I like the strategy

Nestor Aparicio  20:56

11th or 12th inning for me not 10th any play.

Dennis Koulatsos  21:00

You could you like you know youโ€™re old school you like spending the entire day at the ballpark. I canโ€™t do I remember

Nestor Aparicio  21:07

when Brooks Jacoby hit it hit a walk. Yeah, hit home run the 17th inning with Don lifer and an afternoon game that we went after lingered. We got home at 10 oโ€™clock at night. Right.

Dennis Koulatsos  21:17

Youโ€™re 8283 Your last name was Aparicio so you canโ€™t help but you grew up with it. You love it and you

Nestor Aparicio  21:23

sat there 18 innings and they lost right I mean, thatโ€™s

Dennis Koulatsos  21:26

even worse. double overtime football game you go home a loser you donโ€™t want to do that. If you win if you win, it makes the game more tolerable right more palatable, but it is what it is. But I love the new improvements. And by the way, your Pappas shirt. We had that we had dinner, Pappas the other day, give them a plug. They had black grouper with with crabmeat on it. And also an appetizer that have octopus grilled octopus was what the Greek salad was amazing. One of the best meals Iโ€™ve ever had. Just so you know.

Nestor Aparicio  21:54

Well, youโ€™re giving me ideas here for Thursday. Iโ€™m gonna go with the traditional crabcake is Thursday. Weโ€™re gonna be kicking off our Harford County tour on Thursday. Papist the new location up there. So come on out. Say hello. Iโ€™ll be some great guests coming from Bel Air. It is good to get back out on the road here. We were cost to start the tour last week on Wednesday. We are failing on Friday. Weโ€™ve been having some big winners. Weโ€™re having fun. Weโ€™re gonna get back down to fade these be our captain Larryโ€™s downtown and Federal Hill on the 27th Thatโ€™s Thursday the 27th. So getting back into the city as well. So moving the Maryland crabcake to a ramp brought to you by the Maryland lottery conjunction with our friends at window nation and our good friend Dennis. Colossus is over coons Baltimore for give me a little primer on April car sales. Trade in just getting Whereโ€™s the car industry right now?

Dennis Koulatsos  22:41

You know, itโ€™s always changing. And thatโ€™s true. And Iโ€™m glad you asked trade ins all of a sudden are starting to be worth more again because thereโ€™s a sketch of the of nice used cars. So used car values are trending back up again. So if you havenโ€™t used cars, this is a great time to get a top down. Smile.

Nestor Aparicio  22:56

Itโ€™s matter. 20 3040 fit. Whatโ€™s the number? Whatโ€™s a cut off? 55,000 miles on a nice

Dennis Koulatsos  23:02

there. There is no wrong car. Yeah, 1015 years ago, if a car had more than 50,000 miles, it was a problem. More than 100,000 miles. It was a problem nowadays cars are built much better Nesta. So there really is no cut off. I mean, we trade and retail nice 152 and 1000 mile vehicles because another 100 100 half out of Iโ€™m sure. And

Nestor Aparicio  23:20

a 50,000 on a carโ€™s not alone now. No, no,

Dennis Koulatsos  23:23

not. I mean, right now your your average oil change is between 5070 500 miles, sometimes 10,000 miles because the motor is that much better. So you donโ€™t have to invest as much money to maintain your vehicle. But itโ€™s not the old days at least the cars today are much better than they were, again 1015 20 years ago.

Nestor Aparicio  23:41

Being honest. Itโ€™s a real fair car question. So everybody Kelley Blue Book, Kelley Blue Book. So if if you go up and you check Kelley Blue Book, and it says My car is worth 16, grand, whatever it is, I donโ€™t know. Where does that level out when I come in? Because the consumer that comes to your showroom, theyโ€™re there theyโ€™re thinking youโ€™re a car dealer, you might rip them off, theyโ€™re dead, figuring things out, doing all the research and whatever. And youโ€™re there. What what is the level of expectation of a customer bringing a car in that has 50,000 Miles Yeah,

Dennis Koulatsos  24:11

we give people Kelley Blue Book values all the time. And a consumer can also go on the site and plug in their information and assessor and vehicle, itโ€™s just like having a looking at Zillow when it comes to purchasing a home. Itโ€™s an average of the homes given the average condition etc. Now, if the vehicle is above average, so they get above average money, if itโ€™s below average, got a big dent on defender bowl tires, etc. You have to account for that as well. But weโ€™re riding around Kelley Blue Book Fair value. And we our customers bring us in offers all the time and we match them and we put them on your vehicles or we buy the vehicle outright from them.

That Escalade so itโ€™s easy to find lots of experience. Weโ€™re dealing with experience here this week, man. So the experience of obj and I want to just bring this full circle and youโ€™ll have a lot more to say on Thursday and through the weekend on Sunday morning. Thumbs up because itโ€™s made the football team better. But this is a really curious on raven like maneuver in my mind Iโ€™m shocked by it. But I also think our bond the cost of jobs for life, it Steveโ€™s money, heโ€™s not going to keep the team forever he wants to win as as. And if Lamar doesnโ€™t want to come and throw the ball to OBJ, then thatโ€™s on Lamar. But I donโ€™t know that this is gonna move them to give them give him more money. I still think they had, like they had last week I really do.

Dennis Koulatsos  25:34

Well, it does take the spotlight off of that situation and puts it on obj the biggest. The other big takeaway from this obj contract Nestor is the contract will count 4 million against the cap this year. But next year, if heโ€™s not on the team, it will be in the $11 million cap hit because the cost of using voidable years. So unless they extend obj beyond the season, they have $11 million worth of dead cat money they have to address next season, which is significant.

Nestor Aparicio  26:04

And if he plays well, heโ€™s gonna want 15 million more next year right?

Dennis Koulatsos  26:07

Okay, again, look, itโ€™s one year at a time but Iโ€™m thatโ€™s what really concerned me just the structure of the contract and its impact a year from now it feels

Nestor Aparicio  26:17

to me like they felt like they couldnโ€™t win a Super Bowl without a guy like him, making it acknowledgement that they need a serious wide receiver and that they need to throw the football

Dennis Koulatsos  26:26

look with with all due respect to all the receivers theyโ€™ve drafted in the past. Their history shows that they canโ€™t really draft and or develop a wide receiver one. So if you canโ€™t draft one, then you buy one right you buy God at fun at before at a very high level. The age the injury history, the contracts, theyโ€™re all red flags, but this move indicates that they think they can win a Super Lesterโ€™s but particularly thinking Lamar Jackson, on the field with them. So itโ€™s an all in type of a move. And, look, I like aggressiveness, too. I like stupid aggressiveness. No, but who am I to say itโ€™s not what you say itโ€™s

Nestor Aparicio  27:01

a lot of money. But the real thing is to be a cap hit next year for them. Thatโ€™s really what the story is. Right?

Dennis Koulatsos  27:05

And itโ€™s not itโ€™s also not my money. Thatโ€™s what I tell people you got everybodyโ€™s, oh, itโ€™s not your money. If people decide he wants to wants to write a 15 minute or 14 blog guarantee check. Thatโ€™s his business. Who am I to tell him? No, not to do it?

Nestor Aparicio  27:17

Well, thatโ€™s above the fold. Theyโ€™re trying to win.

Dennis Koulatsos  27:22

Theyโ€™re trying to look I applaud him for that. Iโ€™d rather not be aggressive and make stupid mistakes and sit there be passive and let the league pass them by. Itโ€™s a high risk, high reward type of a move really is, especially if the guy pans out if he stays healthy. Heโ€™s had two ACLs. Now ACLs or ACLs are not. Theyโ€™re not hamstring poles are not thigh injuries or not back injuries. If you carry the ACL, not a whole lot you can do about it. Well,

Nestor Aparicio  27:45

we hope they can put him back together. Heโ€™s got the $6 million man heโ€™s the $15 million man that is go out so it can be found that includes Baltimore Ford, youโ€™ll be on Thursday from three and five back again on Sunday and heard in and around all things wn st and Baltimore positive. I will be up in Harford County Pappas on Thursday. Come on out say hello. Looks at the ballpark all week. I am banned from the ballpark and banned from Owings Mills. They fear me Dennis.
