The eve of the start of the postseason brought the latest reminder of the high expectations for the Ravens this January.

On Friday, the Associated Press announced the 2024 All-Pro selections with quarterback Lamar Jackson, inside linebacker Roquan Smith, slot cornerback Marlon Humphrey, and fullback Patrick Ricard receiving first-team honors and running back Derrick Henry and safety Kyle Hamilton being second-team choices. Baltimore’s four first-team All-Pro selections tied Detroit for the most in the NFL while the six overall selections matched both the Lions and Philadelphia. All six All-Pro selections were also named to the Pro Bowl earlier this month as the Ravens earned a league-high nine Pro Bowl nods.

Jackson receiving first-team billing over Buffalo’s Josh Allen bodes well for the 28-year-old’s chances of becoming the seventh three-time NFL MVP in history since the same panel of 50 media members vote for the All-Pro teams and end-of-season awards. The Baltimore superstar received 30 first-place votes to Allen’s 18 and Cincinnati quarterback Joe Burrow’s two. This marks Jackson’s third first-team All-Pro selection with the other two coming in his 2019 and 2023 MVP seasons.

Despite a rough start to the 2024 campaign, Smith, 27, was named a first-team All-Pro linebacker for the third straight season. Pro Football Hall of Famer Ray Lewis accomplished the same feat for the Ravens from 1999-2001 and was named a first-team All-Pro linebacker four other times in his career.

The 28-year-old Humphrey is a first-team All-Pro selection for the second time after previously receiving the nod in 2019.

The second-team All-Pro selection in the first season the fullback position was added to All-Pro voting last year, Ricard received the first first-team selection of his career in his age-30 season.

More than 1,900 rushing yards would have earned Henry, 31, the first-team All-Pro honors in most years, but Philadelphia’s Saquon Barkley became just the ninth man in NFL history to run for more than 2,000 yards in a season, a list that included Henry in 2020. Barkley received 48 first-place votes to Henry’s two in the first-team All-Pro voting.

After being a first-team selection last year, Hamilton receiving a second-team All-Pro nod in his third NFL season continues an outstanding start to his career. Detroit’s Kerby Joseph (37) and Green Bay’s Xavier McKinney (31) each received more first-team votes than Hamilton (23) in a tight race.

Other Ravens players receiving All-Pro votes included tight end Mark Andrews, wide receiver Zay Flowers, center Tyler Linderbaum, right guard Daniel Faalele, edge rusher Kyle Van Noy, and defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike.

Leivovich: On the swamp and racket of The Big Game and bad government

"It's the best book ever written about the modern National Football League," so says Nestor about Big Game. And that's why we love having its author Mark Leibovich back on when his New England Patriots proudly return to Baltimore for some playoff knockout style football. Now with The Atlantic, the longtime political insider for The New York Times is also heavily immersed in Trumplandia and weighs in on the ongoing Epstein saga and the usual D.C. shenanigans.

Hail, hail Halethorpe! A Honey of a spot to shoot pool, watch the game and taste fresh flavor

This stands as a warning to anyone who invites Nestor by their place for the Maryland Crab Cake Tour: you're an invite and a taste away because he's en route to meet more great local folks who want to promote their business. Owner Soo Mi Kang of Honey's in Halethorpe invited us over and must've known that offering "Crabby Toast" would invoke the legend of Charles Markwood Eckman. Competitive billiards, great food and the game is always on at this old-school joint on the south side.
