Welcome home. We are W, N, S, T, Towson, Baltimore, Baltimore, positive. We are out at AM, 1570 encouraging everybody, set a place on the dial. I’ll even take number six. I’m number six on my own dial. It’s okay to fbao number one and 98 rights. Fine. It’s fine. You can find us. Our friends at the Maryland lottery have found us. We’re gonna find you at Faith Lee’s on Friday before the Orioles hopefully successfully host against the Detroit Tigers this weekend. And then we’ll be back at Costas wearing my Costa shirt right now for next Friday. We’re in the middle of 26 oysters in 26 days to celebrate 26 years of wnst. About halfway through this thing, I’ve had some very, very interesting oysters. I know this guy is, knows where Costas is. I’m saving the Oysters Rockefeller for Costas, because I feel like I’ve had everything on the Costas menu a couple of times, and I don’t want to get any creative oysters there, because they’re Oysters Rockefeller. If I were to send you back to Costas, where you did the show with me about a year or two ago, and we’re celebrating 50 years of the Maryland lottery, I would get the oysters rockville. Are you an oyster guy, or you, you’re a little weird about seafood, right? You’re not always into it.

John Martin  01:03

Well, yes, well, I’m a little weird. You could have stopped right there. But the the seafood part, yeah, I’ve eaten oysters. But, you know, I want to go back to your number six on the dial, boy, you just dated yourself. I mean that, that that’s an old, old man reference to say six on your dial. You know, Phil co

Nestor Aparicio  01:19

the little

John Martin  01:22

it’s a digital world now. I mean, you can be, you know, seven through 18 or whatever. No, no, I gotta

8

Nestor Aparicio  01:28

be in it. I gotta be in the front, top page of Google. I gotta be up the top, you know, I gotta be above the crawl. But I would just say it’s so easy, John, I would tell you this, and you’re like, I’ve been doing this 33 years. When I first bought wnst. The biggest thing was, oh yeah, he’s got a radio station, but it’s not big. I can’t hear it in Annapolis, or I can’t hear it Frederick or whatever. And I’m like, Well, you know, then we went around the world. So the criticism of me, I this is the Dundalk in me is always saying, my signal can be bigger, my signal can be stronger. But then I remember, like, people still drive around the beltway and listen to me all the time. I just want a little spot on the dial. That’s all I asked for, just one little place in the

John Martin  02:06

time. Back in my former life, I was the general manager of w, u, J, C, F, M, 89 on your dial in at John Carroll University. That’s confused with John Carroll High School, John Carroll University.

Nestor Aparicio  02:19

Were you a job? No,

John Martin  02:22

8

are you kidding me? I did everything, but put the paper in the what kind of music? Oh, no, what kind of place was this? It was, it was a college radio station.

Nestor Aparicio  02:32

So we were playing what kind of music in that era? I just need to know it. See,

John Martin  02:36

we each we gave dealers choice for the most part, although we did, we did, we did have a program director who did to try to structure us. I was more of your, let’s see, back in my day, it would have been, oh, it would have been the Eagles. Would have been Barry Manilow. Would have been Linda Ronstadt. Oh, wow. You know people of that genre? Well,

Nestor Aparicio  02:56

you know, if you ever played the song new kid in town back in the era that was written by the great JD Souther, John David Souther, who we lost earlier today, earlier this week. So you played some Eagles music. So that says to me that we can get into some lottery, some lottery. So I have to apologize to you, I do not have the Raven scratch offs yet. It’s my fault completely on me. But I know once I get them, I’m going to have them, but I have, like, a handful of these, but I will have them on Friday when we get to fade these, because you guys are near there and I’m in the neighborhood The Raven scratch off right now. Just give me a break to not have to talk about oh and two star. Let’s talk good things about the Raven scratch off. Because I know it’s the biggest promotion you guys do every year. Really, is right?

8

John Martin  03:39

It is. It’s a lot of fun and and you know, when talking about fun, there’s no more fun than than winning. And I will point us to our first, our inaugural for this season, $200,000 top prize in our winning ravens times 10. Scratch off. It was a woman from Clinton. Don’t know that. I don’t know the signal gets the Clinton. I’m

Nestor Aparicio  04:02

gonna find out in a minute. You’re getting me to Google Places in Maryland. You know, there’s a Texas Maryland, there’s a Hollywood Maryland, there’s a Madonna Mary, there’s a lot of cool names, but Clinton Maryland, okay, let’s I’m gonna look that up. I’m gonna figure out what that is. Okay,

John Martin  04:16

well, I can tell you, but go ahead, I know it’s the hunt. The thrill is in the hunt for you. Oh,

Nestor Aparicio  04:21

8

okay, it looks like it’s in southern Prince George’s County. Okay, exactly where

John Martin  04:25

it is, all right. I like exactly where it is. And, yeah, as as often happens, you know, we’d love to talk to our winners about, you know, how they came to to find the prize. She had just dropped her son off. Realized on her running of errands, she had not gotten her lottery tickets yet, so she was in an unfamiliar part of town to her, saw our lottery logo, jackpot sign in the window of a local establishment, went in there and got the Ravens times 10, which is a $10 scratch off this year, top prize, $200,000

Nestor Aparicio  04:57

let me just say this one. From Prince, George’s County, buying a Ravens ticket. Yes, I love that. Here I as a regional guy. I’m talking about the other football team. I is a regional guy here. I love to hear that. So Ravens fans everywhere. You know

John Martin  05:15

what? Believe it or not, we have Steelers fans. We have Browns fans. I have yet to find a Bengals fan. We have, we have fans from all over. You know what they they’re more a fan of winning Nestor, but

8

Nestor Aparicio  05:24

I think Brown’s fan would be much more inclined to buy a gold rush sevens doubler and probably more inclined to lose. But I’m just kidding. We’re oh and two. I gotta get my shots in. Where I get them in, but this is a woman in southern Prince George’s County. Yes, Raven’s ticket. I

John Martin  05:40

think that’s cool, but she but friends had told her, You got to try it. You know they they were winning lower value prices, 500 bucks, 700 or $75 she a friend recommended that she try that ravens ticket, so she scratches it. And you can find another story at MD lottery.com uh, immediately calls her husband when she realizes she’s won $200,000 of course, he had the typical husband response. He had to see it with his own eyes and and was was quickly converted that they did, in fact, have a winning ticket. So good on them. And yeah,

Nestor Aparicio  06:18

my wife plays a lottery all the time. We talk about this. I’ve heard that if, if my wife came in here at 10 o’clock one morning, because she never checks her tickets, like, right away, she buys them and and then, like, the next day finds out, and she came in here and said, I think I just won $200,000 in Maryland lottery, I’d be like, No, you know, I mean, I went through this with Doug last week, that the disbelief that people could go through. Because everybody buys thinking they’re going to win. They all dream of the boat they’re going to buy, or the thing they’re going to do with it, or the bills are going to pay with it, or whatever. And then they actually win, and they’re in disbelief when they win. And I would totally be that guy. There’s no doubt about it,

John Martin  06:55

8

of course. I mean, yes, you’re right. You hit the keywords here. They dream about winning, but in their heart of hearts, they know they have a losing ticket in their hand. That’s just the numbers game. There are far more non winning tickets. I have to catch myself. There are far more non winning tickets in a book of tickets than there are winning tickets.

Nestor Aparicio  07:13

There are no losers. So even if you don’t win the first time perfect, you have to pull the app out. Um, and, and I did this for these beautiful ladies at Cocos two weeks ago. I gave them Gold Rush seven stoppers because I had them as the first day of the oyster tour, maybe September 4 or fifth, before the Ravens lost the first game, um. And, you know, women were like, Did I win? Or did I not? I’m like, here, just give it to me. And I pulled it and then, and then I’m the bad guy, John, because I, you know, I’m wearing a black shirt. I had to wear the black hat. I’m like, I had to say, yeah, it’s not a winning ticket, but, but here’s the thing, you could download this app. You can go to MD lottery.com, and then you can enter it, and then maybe second chance progressive. All these tickets got some little trap door to win more money. I know they do right?

John Martin  08:02

They do that or fun experiences. And that’s why, when you go to MD letter.com and look at the Ravens second chance, we’ve added two fun experiential prizes. One is brand new. The other is just an enhancement. The brand new one is we have our player of the game just like we have our contestant of the game for for the Orioles, and have had that for a number of years. But now, if you are selected to be one of the 17, now 15, remaining players of the game, and you get $1,000 just for being named, and you get $1,000 for every touchdown scored by the Ravens in that game. So that’s a fun new experience, and the past the cash. I know it’s a favor of yours Nestor, the past the cash promotion this year something different. We have ravens alumni. So when you win, you don’t actually throw the football. You have a proxy of a Ravens alumni, person selected by the ravens, not by John Martin, not by the

Nestor Aparicio  09:00

well, let me interject here that I and I’ve told this story a couple times this week, I walked into unwittingly a raven alumni event on Saturday, my wife and I were at dinner with Marvin Lewis down at amicis. We dropped Marvin off the Marriott. We went walking back to our car because we were at the Fells Point oyster Festival, where they shucked 26,000 oysters last weekend. Square. That’s a lot of oysters. They ran out of 25,000 Patrick had to get another 1000 late in the day on Sunday for the football fans that were down there. And I wandered in this ravens event. And they were all the alumni were there, Brian McKinney and VontE Leach, and they were honoring Jacoby Jones. Literally, that’s and they did that before the game when we lost Joe de Los Angeles. I mean, it’s been a, it’s been a, you know, slog for the Ravens. But I gotta say this, I have all these alums on my Facebook page and for your promotion. Daniel Wilcox, one of my all time favorites, a former tight end played here in the late all you know, but when the Billick hardball thing kind of transitioned, oh, 789, in that era, great guy got a ring with the Buccaneers back in the day as well, but he’s still. Facebook friend, and he put up that he threw passes with the Ravens before, and he said he was successful, and he’s not doing it again. He’s like, don’t call me. I did mine. So I know Dan Wilcox will not be that guy, but I think you need to get Stoney case back here. You need a real quarterback to do this for you. You don’t want a linebacker making that pass, right? I mean, do I get that? Can I call Eric zair No,

8

John Martin  10:22

no, no, no, no, no, you call Flacco retired. He’s not an alumni. He’s working, he’s working, he’s working. He’s got a loan,

Nestor Aparicio  10:30

but he’s not retired. Okay? So, so the Ravens pick a player to throw for you, right? Yep, yep. And Wilcox, well, but it is

John Martin  10:42

my understanding that they get peer players. So it’s a lineman versus lineman. It’s not a quarterback versus a defensive tackle.

Nestor Aparicio  10:53

8

I got a guy for you right here underground, Sam Cook, he was a quarter. He can throw the ball. So for me, if I get a ringer, I’m going Sam Cook, if I get a non quarterback, I’m going Sam Cook.

John Martin  11:06

Well, that’s not your choice to make, all right. Well, I

Nestor Aparicio  11:10

can’t we should every week. Let’s find that who the alums are we this should be pointed, because I know every one of these guys well, and I can bust their chops if they do well or not. I want to have fun with this. Let’s have fun with the pass for cash promotion. John Martin, let’s have fun. Well, well,

John Martin  11:24

we should, matter of fact, now you’ve got me and hopefully, speaking of alums and having fun, have you seen our ad? You can go to MD lottery.com,

8

Nestor Aparicio  11:34

great. John Ogden, wearing that beautiful, original yellow throwback bird on the shoulder. Yes, the slim down John, John light. John looks good.

John Martin  11:48

Well, you know what? And that that happens a lot. I mean, you may remember because you’re a football fan. Joe Thomas, the fine left tackle for the Cleveland Browns, yeah. I mean, he shed a lot of weight. Ogden shed a lot of weight, and that you look at Jason Kelsey, now, these guys are getting to a healthy lifestyle. Unfortunately, some guys don’t do that. They tend to go the other way. So good for him. Jimmy Smith is in the commercials as well. Hopefully you have some fun with those at MD lottery.com, and all along the Ravens network. Last time

Nestor Aparicio  12:23

I saw Jimmy, he had really we I was down at Chaucer in Highland 10 he did really big hair, and I had really big hair, and we took a fun big hair picture. But I love Jimmy Smith, and I love it for breaking up those four plays at the goal line and winning Super Bowl 47 John Martin is here. We love him as well. He’s the Executive Director of all thanks. Maryland lottery gaming put us out on the road for the put us out on the road for the Maryland crabcake tour as well as the Maryland oyster tour all month long. I do want to plug our friends at Liberty. Pure solutions. One 800 clean water, and they the oysters keep the bay clean. And they keep my water clean. They keep your well water clean as well. And they’re putting this out. We’re eating these oysters every day, trying to have some fun. And you guys, every place I am where I’m getting oysters, they sell lottery tickets, and I’m seeing people getting busy playing games and winning stuff. So I want to get, get back to winners, because I did see somebody want a million dollars last year. How about that? Huh? And it was like a millionaires game, Millionaire Club. And I didn’t know about the game, so I wanted to at least get, let you at least jump on that, because I don’t know about that game. Yeah,

John Martin  13:24

8

we’ve, we’ve had a couple of lucky winners. It’s been a good week. It’s been a good week to be a player at the Maryland lottery. One is a postal worker. You know, we were picking on Prince George’s County before. Here’s a Washington DC man who is a postal worker who has won a million dollar top prize. You can read about it at MD lottery.com by purchasing the Millionaires Club, which he now is a member of the Millionaires Club. Scratch off it is a $20 ticket. Top prize, $1 million so you can find out all the details. He went into his local 711, local 711 picked up a ticket, and found out he was a winner. That’s that’s pretty good stuff there. As

Nestor Aparicio  14:09

hard a time as I’d have with the 200,000 I think the million would be a little bit of a stretch. That would feel like one of those chain letters that I get on email. You know, John Martin is here. He’s executive director of all things Maryland, lottery and gaming. Hey, I’m going to wrap this up and just say you’re a sports fan. I’m a sports fan. Your baseball teams look a little better than our baseball team. Lately, I want to give you full opportunity to take me behind the woodshed as a fan and talk a little smack. My football team stinks, and I know we can’t get into that. We don’t have a basketball team here, but this is, I’ve said this all week, and I’m trying to be more upbeat, you know, because if I were taking phone calls, it would not be upbeat around here about either one of these teams right now, I would just say it’s, um, this was supposed to be fun. This was supposed to be fun. John, you know,

John Martin  14:57

yes, yes, but I will tell you. That right now, no one has won anything so or lost anything or Well,

Nestor Aparicio  15:05

well, first place get through that. We’re not discussing all the problems we’re going to have with our pitchers getting cold and our bats getting cold that week. I think we’re going to be playing real baseball two weeks. And at least, I hope they need to win a little bit more between bit more between here and there, and I need to get you better. So I’m gonna let you you roll on. John Martin could be found out on the front of Baltimore positive each and every week when he’s not trying to pay off all these home run riches guys, things got a little more quiet on that. We had Doug Lloyd on last week talking about winners and when big winners happen. How the Maryland lottery contacts you and lets you know if you were a raven scratch off winner or a second chance winner, that you do get that phone call or that email if it says Doug Lloyd, Maryland lottery, it’s the real thing. And John, I hope you feel a little bit better next week, get you back on the shelf, because you and I really can have some baseball to argue about the next couple

8

John Martin  16:00

of weeks here, not only that, we, you know, a lot of answers this weekend. Esther, right? I mean, are the Cowboys? Which? Which cowboys team shows up on Sunday, the one that that spanked the Browns are the ones that got rolled over at home by the New Orleans Nolan’s saints. And are they real? They might be, are they for real? Yeah, yeah, yeah. And, you know, I realized oh, and two teams of which we have two in our division, always talk about the the tough road ahead, but John Harbaugh is right. It’s not so much now. It’s what you do in the next 15 so

Nestor Aparicio  16:37

as long as we got Lamar upright, I think everything’s okay, but the offensive line has a little bit of way to go here, and certainly just Dallas, buffalo, Cincinnati, at Owen two there, it just it’s been tough being a Baltimore sports fan this week, John, that’s all I’m saying. And for those of you wagering out there, I want to remind everybody slow the roll this month. If nothing else you’ve seen, what happened to the Orioles. It’s sports. Anything can happen. Keep it fun. Well, we did a whole educational thing two weeks ago. We have Mary Drexler on talking about help that you can get for yourself or for other people. I want to make sure that I throw that into this segment here, as we have fun with sports, and it sucks to lose. Lately, being a Baltimore sports fan, it sucks even more if you’re gambling and you shouldn’t be. So 800 gamblers a way to get that please go listen to segment from two weeks ago. It’s available in all of our downloads, in our podcast and out at Baltimore positive.com John you get better this week. We’ll see John Martin next week. Around here, hopefully times get better by the time we get to John Martin next week, the Orioles will be in New York, the Ravens will have been to Dallas, and I will have been to fadelies on Friday. We’ll be Acosta’s next week doing the Maryland crab cake tour. Is all powered up by the Maryland lottery. We’ll have the Raven scratch offs this Friday at fadelies. Congressman John Sarbanes is joining us this Friday. I’ve got old school teachers, old friends, old Dundalk friends, coming by as well. And we’re going to be talking to James of Piper bond, from the Living classrooms Foundation, about maritime magic, which is one of the big parties of the year. He’ll be joining us at fadelies on Friday, on behalf of our partner, Brian Billick and living classrooms Foundation, which as good an organization as there is. I am Nestor. We are, w n s t AM, 1570 Towson, Baltimore. Set a spot on your dial. Don’t make it seven. Make it one through six. We are, w n s t AM, 1570 Towson, Baltimore, and we never stopped talking Baltimore positive i.
