Our money guy Leonard Raskin spends his weekends holed down with college football. And what a weekend it was from a South Bend surprise from an old Ravens coach to College Park where Coach Locksley didn’t like what he saw against Michigan State. Something to take our minds off the Kansas City loss and 10 days before the Raiders arrive. A little chat about Saturdays in Maryland…

Music. Welcome home. We are W, N, S T, tassel, Baltimore. We’re am 1570 we hope you set a space on your dial for us in your radio. We’re gonna be doing all sorts of things. I’m eating a lot of oysters, lots of crab cakes. It’s football season. It’s baseball season. It’s fall. The kids are back at school. It’s even pumpkin spice in apple cider season. Our friends at the Maryland lottery have Raven scratch offs. They have the Gold Rush sevens. Doubles. Got a handful of these left. We’re going to be at Cooper’s doing the Fells Point oyster tour this weekend, down in Fells Point. That’s on Friday. Great guest, Dave shine and Chad wheason. Going to join us there all month long. We’re doing the oyster tour and the crab cake tour. We’re getting back out. We’re going to be at state fair on the 24th we’re going to be back down at fadelies On the 20th we’re going to be Acosta’s on the 27th all over the state, including the bno railroad museum on the 26th for the huge oyster recovery partnership Gala, learning a lot about oysters, eating oysters. Jimmy Buffett said, Give me oysters and beer for dinner every day of the year, and I’ll be fine. I had oysters for breakfast on Sunday at the Urban oyster. So it has been a wild month. All are brought to you by our friends at Liberty. Pure solutions. They keep my water clean in the same way that the oysters keep the bay clean. So I’m going to be educating folks one 800 clean water Doug’s going to be coming on later on in the month. We have such great sponsors, render Jiffy lubes got Luke going down to the ballpark. Royal farms got my coffee and my cup this morning. Things are good around here, as as good as they can be when the Adley rutschman is hitting the ball. Baseball teams losing games over the weekend on the road and obviously, oh one, there was a lot of optimism. The last time I got together with Leonard Raskin from Raskin global, I am wearing the shirt he represents the great American dream, and will help you with money, money, money and more money. But, yeah, we talked about that last week. You know, we had a football game for the first time in eight months. All week. I mean, here, here we go. As you would say, here we go. Um, this has been a little bit of a thought. This is going to be a little turd. You know, good week, when I was not a

Leonard Raskin  02:01

good week, not a good week, we lost by a toe. Well, we didn’t lose by a toe. We lost by more than a toe. We were, as far as I’m concerned, and I could be wrong, I think we were lucky to have a chance with a toe. I’m again, I’m no head coach, I’m no GM. But I think when you go out and you get Derek Henry, give him when they say, give him the damn ball. What the heck was going on

Nestor Aparicio  02:27

offensive lines? Not effective, right? No, of course, and I’ve talked it later, they definitely need

Leonard Raskin  02:31

work. They definitely need work but, but I’m watching Sunday Night Baseball, Sunday night football, and I’m watching the lions pound the ball through the heart of the Rams in overtime, and I’m just thinking to myself that one of the reasons the offensive line isn’t that great is because they got a pass block. It is in my understanding of the sport in my 59 years of watching it, almost 60 now, well, not quite, because I probably didn’t watch it when I was an infant. But anyway, run blocking is what they want to do. They want to get out there and smash. Let them try, let them Smash. We we were beaten up. The Chiefs, least, my estimation again, first drive of the game marched right down the field. King Henry put it in the end zone. It’s a beautiful thing, or is that second drive? Whatever it was, it was lovely. Then we start passing, and Lamar starts running. I don’t mind passing. I love passing. I love him running. But I’m watching a game, and this guy’s on the sidelines. He’s on the sidelines. I just don’t get it. He should have been in that game all game. Why isn’t he running the damn ball,

Nestor Aparicio  03:44

right? I mean, my column this week, all 10 points behind at the game wasn’t close, and the game wasn’t close. They couldn’t control the line of scrimmage, and the game wasn’t close because you didn’t know when your next first down was coming, and it was probably coming from lamar’s legs, doing the shake and bake, and the razzle dazzle, which is still Lamar on the playground, is still their best play. And I’ve talked about that, yeah, it

Leonard Raskin  04:07

needs to change. It needs to be Derrick Henry and where was Mark Andrews. What happened to him is he still not in good shape. My wife thought he still hurt.

Nestor Aparicio  04:16

Now the Isaiah like, well, he was in a car accident. So I don’t know, you know, and they’re all trying to get out on the field and to be honest about their health. I mean, Luke, they don’t when they’re hurt. No, I

Leonard Raskin  04:28

get it. I get it. But when you’re down near the goal line and you’re trying to score at the end of the game, don’t you want your short handed great receiver, Mark Andrews, hanging out in the end zone somewhere. I don’t know. It looked like the Rams were finding Cooper cup all over the field. And I thought Mark Andrews was, I mean, likely put on a show. There’s no doubt about it. He was a great had a great game, but that

Nestor Aparicio  04:52

might be the end in the end of that, just in a general they’re both have great games. I mean, I don’t know how you get your tight ends involved in the offense so much they get. 14, 1618, passes. I don’t think it’s going to happen, but also you got to hope that the quarterbacks not running like a running back 15 times a game. And I know they took my press credential, but the last time I asked John a question really pissed him off was when Lamar ran the ball 21 times against the Vikings a couple years ago in overtime. Then I go play four days later. I there is a point with Lamar Jackson where his greatest skill set, and Luke always says, you don’t want to take it away from him. You don’t want to take the legs away from of course, you don’t want you, but you want to make that the game. And there’s been too much over the last six years where that is their it’s their only play. It’s their rely, it’s their go to when they get behind, and and it’s his instinct, and I think it’s their instinct. And more than that, the most worrisome thing is, I think this is the worst offensive line he’s had here.

Leonard Raskin  05:47

I agree. I we talked about that in the off season, that they’re our biggest concern is going to be the guys protecting them. And I don’t know what’s going on in the officiating. I tried to watch a couple games on Sunday. I didn’t see a lot of illegal formation calls over the weekend. Maybe I missed them, or maybe they missed them, or maybe they missed them on Thursday night. I don’t know. Maybe

Nestor Aparicio  06:10

Ronnie Staley’s right there making an example of him because it’s right feels right. As we get out on

Leonard Raskin  06:15

five, five penalties for lining up wrong is a little crazy, a little crazy, but hey, you know there’s likely making a great catch at the end of the game. And if not for the black cleats, black cleats, he should wear white cleats,

Nestor Aparicio  06:34

according according to Patrick mahomes, right, right,

Leonard Raskin  06:36

white cleats will they won’t see that you’re stepping on that line in white cleats. He just couldn’t toe tap that, that foot. I didn’t see if the toe came down first or the heel. I guess it doesn’t matter. Whatever comes down if, if any inch of that is out of bounds, you’re out of bounds.

Nestor Aparicio  06:54

How about hardball running out there with the two point right? Like, what was that about? Okay,

Leonard Raskin  06:58

so the only thing, the only thing worse than losing the way they lost would have been to lose, because Darrell going for two and losing, going for two, I would love

Nestor Aparicio  07:13

to know what the play was. What’s the play on the goal in week one?

Leonard Raskin  07:17

Why the heck were you thinking that? Get the point, go to overtime, play the game, win the toss, win the game.

Nestor Aparicio  07:24

I don’t, I don’t think he believed he could do that. And look, didn’t believe his defense could stop him. Politics would tell you, you know this and that and the other but there is a gambler part of that that that would have been a shocking outcome to right? I mean, but hey, you know, give hardball to stones for that, right? Like he was going to

Leonard Raskin  07:45

hold it up. 222, I’m thinking, I’m screaming, I’m screaming at the TV, what are you doing? And then it didn’t matter. So I was, I was almost happy that we didn’t lose by one. That would have been dreadful. Dreadful. What kind of optimism is that? Leonard Raskin, that’s terrible. It’s terrible, but I just felt it. I felt a one point loss coming after all that work, and then you lose by the Extra Point. I watched

Nestor Aparicio  08:14

the Raiders play on Sunday, their nine favorite this week. It bad. It better. Go better. Gardner,

Leonard Raskin  08:20

minshu, oh my goodness. How is that guy throwing the ball around? You’re

Nestor Aparicio  08:24

excited to get back down to the ballpark, right? I

Leonard Raskin  08:26

mean, you’re ready to go.

Nestor Aparicio  08:27

You’re one of the guys I write the costume. You spend a lot of money going. I mean, you spent against the grain of what a concert cost, or dinner at Roose Christmas or whatever, like you, you spend real money every Sunday home or, you know, home games, to go to the games, good weather, bad weather, whatever it is. You’re the guy buying the hundreds plus tickets and sitting in the club level. And, I mean, it’s a premium experience for you, and it’s something that like, if you’re spending 568, 100 bucks on a Sunday afternoon, you’ve got to be looking forward to it. I mean, I absolutely that’s a vacation for a lot of people. Yeah,

Leonard Raskin  09:04

it is for us, it’s a Sunday afternoon. It’s a lovely Sunday afternoon down at the park, down at the the bank, and looking forward to going back out and hopefully seeing them destroy the Raiders,

Nestor Aparicio  09:14

right? Destroy I knew you’re gonna use some.

Leonard Raskin  09:18

You can’t just win this game. You got to eat them up. They got to be style points. You should look I sat here, good. I mean, I sat here Saturday. I sat here Saturday in the house watching college football. I love, I love the weekend, you know? I mean, look this. This past week, we had football. Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday. It’s ridiculous. Friday

Nestor Aparicio  09:42

night thing. I went up to Cooper’s north, and we, I mean, my buddy Ed Nina was playing. I I had the little college ball, a little college ball, but, but I was watching the the Orioles were on right against Tampa. And then we didn’t have peacock. I got your peacock right here. I went up, you know, they had to. North, right? I’ll be right south on Friday with always. But my wife said, we want to watch the game. We didn’t have peacock. It turns out her sister gave her the got it. We left it. You know, second quarter, we left the game because we’ve been there a couple hours. That’s beer. We came home, but I was asleep at halftime, because it’s just I was tired. But my wife had it. And the whole Brazil. I mean, the crowd terrible. You know, you don’t want that game, right? Quarterback rips himself up like I you know, there’s some good college ball, too much, Leonard, I

Leonard Raskin  10:32

mean, good college ball Friday night. But here’s my thing, Thursday night, they

Nestor Aparicio  10:36

got buffalo playing on. Miami distorts great game, right? They’re not ready to play on.

Leonard Raskin  10:40

I mean, well, maybe they’ll arrest a couple people before the game and see what happens down. Sure, you’d have thought that was the Buffalo Police or something. I don’t know what’s going on. Like, bad boys. Bad Boys. Yeah, not good. But anyway, but, but Saturday, Saturday, watching college ball two games first had to watch a little bit of that team up north, and they got roasted and toasted by Texas

Nestor Aparicio  11:12

Longhorns. Yeah, Jim Harbaugh got out of there just in time, right?

Leonard Raskin  11:15

Yeah, because they don’t have the signals, they don’t have the plays anymore, his his his snitch got fired and turned in, and so they they took some hit on that, and so he left. They don’t know the plays that are coming, so it’s hard to ask you

Nestor Aparicio  11:31

of the San Diego la chargers, do you think Jim Harbaugh a cheater? I

Leonard Raskin  11:37

think he cheated at Michigan. I think they cheated their ass off. I think the NCAA is going to vacate three years of wins and maybe the national championship. Maybe not. That’s spoken as a true Buckeye fan. Now,

Nestor Aparicio  11:52

having said that, I don’t think you have to hate the Astros to think they cheated. You know, right? They cheaters. That’s right. Bill belichick’s A cheater. Tom Brady cheater. That’s, I mean, they’re that, like they’re, that’s what. So

Leonard Raskin  12:03

that’s so here we had, but I don’t know, we had Michigan playing Texas and getting beat up in the big house, which was fantastic. And then I always, I don’t know why. I don’t know why this is what I’m about to say. I really don’t know. But I always root against Notre Dame. I don’t know why. I just kind of like one of those things. I’ve always hated Notre Dame, right? So watching, so watching the northern was it Northern Illinois, the the Huskies.

Nestor Aparicio  12:35

Anybody sees Bill Larney? Tell him, I don’t even go to looneys anymore. Go in there and Notre Dame, I’m out beat Notre

Leonard Raskin  12:40

Dame at Notre Dame that was, that was fantastic. And

Nestor Aparicio  12:45

really neat about, is I Thomas hammock. I’ve seen him, you know, press conferences back when, yeah, back when I was a real media member. Yeah, that was a beautiful thing, right? Yeah, it’s beautiful when, when, when Goliath, uh, gets taken down by Absolutely,

Leonard Raskin  12:59

absolutely, and they, you know, these are one that’s one of those games where they pay millions of dollars for the team to come in and beat them up. And they got beat up. And it was kind of funny to me. And then I flipped on the buckeyes who were playing Western Michigan, the Broncos. And as the game went on, my wife was watching, and she said, that’s just not fair. 56 to nothing. You’re talking about style points. It’s just not fair. I said to her, how can it be not fair when earlier, the Huskies went into Notre Dame, and one you play the game, you see what happens bear is what happens on the field. Maryland

Nestor Aparicio  13:36

took money games. A lot of times it got beat. And that’s right, Maryland, Michigan State? Go ahead, what do you make of that mess and the fact that terrible

Leonard Raskin  13:47

should have won that game, had the game gave up the big plays, gave up two bombs for 6070, yards, had a chance at the end with a field goal, missed it. Then had Michigan State stopped before 15 yard penalty gave him another first down, and then they lost the game. Terrible. I

Nestor Aparicio  14:08

you know, listen, I’ve been on the air 33 years now, right? 26 years with the radio station in Baltimore, founded sports radio. Go watch the documentary. You see all that stuff, right? The Maryland thing has always been from the from the beginning of time, from the minute I went on the air in 1991 here, whether it was krivac van der Linden, Duffner, like just all along, right, like Gary Williams was there forever on that bridge,

Leonard Raskin  14:33

the fridge bridge.

Nestor Aparicio  14:35

Let’s not forget the fridge. All of that. How many you’re 60 years old? You’ve already admitted that in the segment, you love the Ravens. You’ll, you know, you’ll, you’ll give them 568, 100,000 bucks this weekend, two grand for playoff like you’re into it. You go on Sunday Orioles, you and I talk. You want to be an Oriole guy. You have enough money. Absolutely. Your kids in Ireland. You don’t want to go down there and sit alone. You don’t have a buddy like me. It’s gonna get down there to 20 games with you. Your mother doesn’t love it enough. Your sisters don’t love it so, so you don’t spend money on the Orioles

15:06

occasionally.

Nestor Aparicio  15:07

Before the

Leonard Raskin  15:10

end of the year, you have

Nestor Aparicio  15:12

offered me Billy Joel tickets. I’m still indebted. From a year ago, I spent some money on Springsteen. The $50 I went saw Springsteen. Yeah, you see the other night. I’m gonna see sticks this week I got Lawrence Gowan from Tommy Shaw, Tommy, we spend money on the things. That’s right, the American Dream

Leonard Raskin  15:29

Absolutely you don’t know how much time you have.

Nestor Aparicio  15:32

Well, you do with your time and your money becomes what your life is. That’s

Leonard Raskin  15:37

exactly right. Shows where you value, what you value, where you value, okay,

Nestor Aparicio  15:40

why are all those empty seats at Maryland? Please. Can you tell your sports guy, they’ve been marketing you since Jefferson Raycom, since Claiborne, since numerous iOS, and since we got our ass kicked by Penn State every year, since you go into the ACC and you could beat everybody but make crazy state, like, you know, you crazy team that could go to an orange bowl, you could be all that like they have never had, never draw it, never draw. They’ve never had no and now, because over their head,

Leonard Raskin  16:07

I think it’s because they don’t beat the a big team. They’re not a big team taker. They they win the games are supposed to, although they should

Nestor Aparicio  16:15

have won a couple of these games, people would start going down there and seeing them. I think people,

Leonard Raskin  16:18

I think people would come. But for whatever reason, you know, look who shows up. A few alum. They got some good alum that come to the games. Their football team just has never been a draw. Their basketball team shows people show out. Well, they too. They gotta win. People in this town love winners. Look the Orioles drew not as bad as the White Sox. What was it? A week or so ago, paid attendance, 1717, I think it was at the White Sox game, something like that. Did you see that

Nestor Aparicio  16:51

game? It was unbelievable. Nobody played here with the tank circle in the building, and Angela’s played the game anyway.

Leonard Raskin  16:59

Yeah, right. Or it was like the covid game with an empty ballpark a couple of years of that, right? But, but the White Sox had an empty stadium. It’s not that bad, but at least a basketball team draws enough interest to show that people care. But the

Nestor Aparicio  17:17

football the problem is. And listen the problem. I went last year commanders anymore, because the real problem 35 years ago, even before we had our football team, was the Redskins played on Sunday, and they owned the town of DC. They never marketed Baltimore. They always treated Baltimore. I mean, go back to 70s. They never really embraced Baltimore. It’s a place they might visit once in a while, and, and, and give us a game against Georgia Tech that art modell would cost art modella half million dollars, right? Lost his ass trying to because art loved college football. But like your kid went to Ohio State, you sit and watch Ohio state you live in Hunt Valley. 106,000

Leonard Raskin  17:57

people in the shoe every week. No matter who they’re playing, they’re playing Western Michigan. The place sells out 105 106,000 it’s crazy. Woody Allen, two years ago,

Nestor Aparicio  18:08

right? I mean, I’m I’m old, right? You know, Woody Hayes. Woody Hayes, what I’m saying? Woody Allen. Woody

Leonard Raskin  18:13

Allen, he did something else with kids. Worse,

Nestor Aparicio  18:15

he was worse. I’m sorry. You don’t want

Leonard Raskin  18:20

to mix your woodies. Woody Harrelson, out of it, I don’t want to mix your woodies. Oh,

Nestor Aparicio  18:25

I think I held a bag of his weed and Havana one night. Woody Harrel tonight. I think Woody, Woody might have had an international incident with me. Woody Harrelson, oh, my god. Woody Allen, I got nothing to do with him, although I did reference Mia Farrow and Rosemary’s Baby, I did reference that in my There you go. Let’s

Leonard Raskin  18:40

let’s stick to what he hates. But hey, I was gonna say I went to Maryland two years ago. I went to the game, and that was when over half the stadium was filled with Ohio State fans, because the the buck ice came to play Maryland. And so I went to that game, watched Ohio State beat Maryland. But

Nestor Aparicio  18:59

that play the Maryland games with a turtle on your hat? Correct? Yes, not on

Leonard Raskin  19:03

my hat, but on my shirt. Sure. Yes, you have Maryland gear, yes.

Nestor Aparicio  19:06

What led you to go to Maryland football games when you went? Now, that’s

19:10

a great question. You

Nestor Aparicio  19:11

know what led me major Harris that my one of my best friends in life, Robert debellius, came to me in 1984 when a colts left. He’s like, I bought Maryland season tickets. And I’m like, Why? Why? He’s like, Well, it’s Saturday, and I get, you know, I’m off and work Saturday football plant. And he’s like, yeah, we’ll get in the car, we’ll go chase girls. Well, you know, we’ll, we’ll meet girls drink beer.

Leonard Raskin  19:32

We would be the reason when I was young, right? But I haven’t had

Nestor Aparicio  19:36

a Maryland football game in my wife and I went to the Towson Maryland game whenever that was 20 years, you know, whenever that game was yes, went down to that game, yes. My

Leonard Raskin  19:47

uncle, his company, years ago. I don’t know how long ago, had a box. 35 yard line had a box. They were big Maryland fans before they built the second level. I think. It was no since, since, okay, and they had a box, and he said, you want to come down to a game? I said, Sure, we went to two games that season. I don’t even know who they played, but took the boy and your kid, then young, young right after they built. But way before college. When

Nestor Aparicio  20:17

I went to Maryland football games, people would bring their children much more, yeah, way before, coming before going to an NFL game and saying on a Saturday, parking out cheaper. It was always really affordable. Going to a Maryland game was always 10 or 20 bucks. Penn State was in town, maybe

Leonard Raskin  20:35

do a Towson game. Also, I’ve been a million. I

Nestor Aparicio  20:40

mean, we used to, we used to, we did business with Towson. We would, MS, right, out there, right? Same

Leonard Raskin  20:44

thing, you know, went to Towson games. Went to went to Maryland couple Maryland games, but not, not on a regular basis again, just not a thing. Maryland football’s just not a thing. But we live in maybe if I was an alum, maybe if I was an alum. But, you know, they don’t rate a quarter

Nestor Aparicio  20:59

of million dollars to send your kid to Ohio State, right? He’s gone, right? You’re here in Maryland. You’re not going out to Ohio State. Your kids in Ireland. The Maryland thing for me with and I like Loxley, I really but the frustration It must feel to be trying to build something and see the stadium empty and to have that sort of overflow after a loss, but I am out loud and saying they have treated me you think you if you think I don’t like the way the Orioles and the Ravens have treated me, the Terps people over my lifetime, from 33 years, yeah, were always the worst. Yeah, the question is, the worst they had whether, why not?

Leonard Raskin  21:38

The Baltimore media, they never they have a very low show. You watch the sports or the news. Here, they’re an afterthought. The football team’s an afterthought. Basketball

Nestor Aparicio  21:52

team that way, piano, how they may be, but the basketball team wins press, but the football team never did 10 years ago for a basketball game, right? And this is when they’re down in their lock when turgen just came in, yeah, you know the assistant coach was I coach, you know, when he was a kid, the only kid I ever coached in basketball, beno ransom and and I like, and I wanted to love them again. I have a closet full of stuff. I, you know, I lived downtown then, so it was only 30 minutes, yeah, easy dressing. Words, pain in the ass, because I found that going in that’s parked the other night, right? Like, so I was going to CAPS games at this point with Eddie Frankie Vick. Sure, I’m not adverse to driving up and down 295, I’m not that guy. I mean, just like, and I’m not even like, a prima donna back, give me my parking give me a free hot dog, right? Just don’t make it a pain in my ass. Don’t make me come down there and make me feel like it’s gonna be a pain in the ass. In traffic can be pain in the ass. In the minute I get there, you’re gonna park me on the moon. The game’s gonna start at nine o’clock. You’re gonna sit me on the moon, and then after the game, Gary Williams is gonna be a prick. And that went on for 20 years, even when they were good, they were bad. I mean, they were mostly good, most of the time, but never good enough. And they always got bounced in the 32 or the 16, and then they went a couple of years, 23 years ago. They won before it was married. My wife don’t even know time ago, right? Right? They build this arena. They pissed everybody off. My buddy, Steve Hennessy, my partner, the guy that’s really Steve hennes. He’s the real reason I’m that I’m here in this thing I created. He was Mr. Marilyn. And when they moved the M Club, they screwed everybody. He had seats on the baseline. They were good seats. They were 25 rows up, but they were, they were down by the basket. They weren’t center court. They told him, You wanted it’s 12,000 years like a PSL, exactly,

Leonard Raskin  23:39

you know, and that’s what it’s about. They want the big donor money that way. Big donor money.

Nestor Aparicio  23:46

Leonard, from the time Luke Jones has been here 16 years that Luke loved Maryland sports, like when Luke and I were doing spring training, we’d find games. We’d go at the bars. We tweet about games, we watch the Suleiman era, like all of that. Here’s their there was their press deal. They would never send us a season pass. They would never send us parking they would make us drive to the Marriott. Have to go to like the valet and get our parking pass, to get our pass. Then we got we parked on the moon, and then we would walk to the arena, a mile to the arena. Then we had to go to the will call window to get a pass. We would get, like, dude, mail me my pass and let me come to the game. Right? I’ve been covering sports 35 years, for Chad Steele, for Greg Bader. I just want to say out loud the Terps, I stopped going. Luke stopped caring, because Luke lives in Pennsylvania, was just sort of like, I’m not driving two hours to go down there to get run around on at 530 and rush hour and green belt. Get my parking pass straight

Leonard Raskin  24:53

with you people. Crazy, yep, crazy. And without cultivating that, you don’t get a. Listeners to give a damn, because, again, you’re you’re not only an afterthought.

Nestor Aparicio  25:06

Game when my wife was like in peril, it was Christmas week of 2015 they played a game in Baltimore. They played at the arena, and I left my wife’s bed in December of 2015 for a couple of hours because she’s at Hopkins, yeah, playing in Baltimore, and I wanted to show my support. And this is in 2015 after being treated like manure for 26 years, or whatever it was, at that point that I went to the arena, they didn’t have my pass. The pass wasn’t there. I’m standing outside in the cold in December. I’m pretty raw to begin with. And then when I went in and I said to the PR guy, I’m like, Hey, I came to support you, the pass wasn’t there. And he told me, you should have gotten your he chewed at me, and I said, Dude, I will never come to one of your effing games again. And you know what I have, right? That’s it. I haven’t. I haven’t been in nine years, because I’ve just I’m not gonna get treated that way. And I wasn’t even mad that the past wasn’t there. I just went to him and said, hey, there was a misunder, you know, like, you know, part of the reason I don’t come to college park is after sitting in traffic for two hours this, stop, stop, right? So, you know, Maryland. Mike Loxley, you all have got what you deserve, like you got an empty stadium because you haven’t done a good enough job of like cap William said, If you don’t like what I think of you, maybe you should have traded me better. That’s it. It’s it.

Leonard Raskin  26:29

Yep, was that. And there’s no there’s no outreach. I don’t see any outreach at all. They come to a Ravens game.

Nestor Aparicio  26:35

I’ll be honest with you, I didn’t know the game happened. I didn’t know what happened

Leonard Raskin  26:40

to, uh, the Big 10 Network. Literally, they’re not going to be on TV.

Nestor Aparicio  26:44

I’ve been watching the Orioles. I’ve been watching the Ravens. I’ve been ravened out NFL, networked out writing. I wrote the letter. Thank

Leonard Raskin  26:51

goodness, right now the Yankees suck, huh? How crazy is it that we are? Oh, my goodness. Base is loaded, one out two on one out two on no outs, no runs. Like, what’s going on? Your dirty secret about what’s going on?

Nestor Aparicio  27:09

We stand in the winner’s circle every year, and there’s winners, and the flowers are given, and the trophy and all that. That’s because the best players perform the best at that moment, right? Yep. Like, that’s really what Michael Jordan was about. That’s what. That’s clutch. That’s what. There’s

Leonard Raskin  27:22

a thing called clutch. That’s what it’s about.

Nestor Aparicio  27:24

That’s what Patrick is about. That’s what Tom no doubt about, no doubt cheating. But like but they want best players aren’t playing well when Fn and burns aren’t pitching well, when rushman and they are pitching

Leonard Raskin  27:37

well, and you can’t score two, nothing, one, nothing, two to one, three hits. I mean, you know, you got a hit and and earlier in the year, guys were, were and, look, I am no, no way in hell could I stand up there and take a 95 mile an hour spinning curveball and know how to hit it. Or I’d be doing that, or I’d have done that, but it to me, it looks a lot easier, I guess, on TV, that these guys, I can’t believe some of the pitches they’re swinging at, and I get it, you got a millisecond to make up your mind. But, my goodness, some of these guys just swing it garbage. And when there’s men on base and we need to score, that ain’t going to get it done. They’re all young. They’re all young.

Nestor Aparicio  28:23

It feels tight right now. And holidays, Mayo talked about rochman. Rochman years ago, was pat on the ass, yeah, with the relief pitchers, rah, rah, rah, had all of that extra energy. Yeah, that Pete Rose energy. You know what? I mean, that’s right, winning edge, you know, edge. He

Leonard Raskin  28:41

looks a little uptight. He looks a little uptight. They all do. And

Nestor Aparicio  28:44

I think Brandon Hyde is and I think they realize they’re a little outgunned, right? They don’t have their best players, and they’re waiting on this cavalry. Um, these are nervous times, because it’s been a nice people have to come on. It’s been a nice season. And a lot of

Leonard Raskin  28:56

hurt players, man, a lot of hurt players. Aria Urias is hurt? Castles hurt?

Nestor Aparicio  29:05

Yeah, Rodriguez, waiting on Webb, waiting on cool loan, waiting on a lot of guys,

Leonard Raskin  29:09

lot of guys. I mean, you could pick up a half a team if the injuries go away. How about, how about Dean Kramer, when we talked last week, I told you I thought he might pitch. How about him coming out and throwing six perfect no hit innings with that with that hand, that arm,

Nestor Aparicio  29:29

right arm, Cooper’s north. And I swear I got out there and I didn’t look at my app. We got there about seven o’clock, the game’s starting, and we were there for the Brazil game and whatnot. And I saw him, and I’m like, Oh, my God, he’s, what is he doing? Like, it’s, it’s amazing medicine, right?

Leonard Raskin  29:45

Unbelievable. I told you, they put some splint on there to smush it. We talked about, they smooshed it, pushed it, and they smushed it enough that he was out there pitching with a Popeye arm. He had the Popeye arm. His arm was big, but it was all over big, and then his wrist was small. All he threw the ball was stunning.

Nestor Aparicio  30:03

Do show you have no idea. My wife and I were talking about the word smush being a fat letter word for Wordle, right? Leonard Raskin is here. He is. Raskin global. He manages the American Dream, which I tried to live here, out in front of the public eye over 33 years. You know you, you’re the first person that said you read Mike the Costa missive, you know, sort of behind the scenes. You and I are connected. You’ve known about all of this for two and a half years. You were one of the guys. I’m like, here, look at my phone. You sponsor the show. You tell me whether I have integrity or not, right? So I just did the Costa thing. I waited to the end of the end of the end because of my relay. I mean, I’ve waited two and a half years now beyond getting a text that says, well, as an organization, we did the wrong thing. But yeah, I’m not, I’m not in a position of leadership, right? General Manager, so, yeah, so, so, so

Leonard Raskin  30:52

he’s telling you that he’s in charge of picking players and the field, and that’s all he can focus on and deal with. And they’ve told you, maybe they told him, you know, go to hell, and maybe

Nestor Aparicio  31:03

I don’t, I don’t know. I don’t care, or No, I just know, right, no, right? I’m a legitimate media member who served the community, who served the audience, who has been banned, and why? I don’t know. You tell me, is it because I have long hair? I don’t know. It’s because I’m Venezuelan. Is it because I’m an a hole, which has been suggested by some of my friends and partners? That’s still not a pre qualification,

Leonard Raskin  31:22

I don’t know that that’s part of the rules. Sorry.

Nestor Aparicio  31:25

Well, if that’s the rules that were, the rules that shifted like a jellyfish, like the rules just changed the players, you got a lot of players, you can’t do that anymore. Well, yeah, well, literally, you can’t do that anymore. Is what they would say to a 40 year old human and like, I just remember the day I was coughing and cold and in a sweater, and they decided to do a press conference outwards 34 degrees, and I didn’t have enough jacket, and I stepped inside, and he threw me out of the warmth. And I thought, in front of a Gatorade machine, like, I’m in there, like it’s just, well, I think the biggest thing that is just absurd. I think the biggest thing to me,

Leonard Raskin  32:07

and I wouldn’t be here as a sponsor if I didn’t believe in your integrity and how you do what you do, that to me is critical and and I let them go for a couple years. You know that I had a run in, and I let him go for a couple few years, and my wife people did over the Wembley knee, right? Yeah, right. Same, exactly. And my wife wanted to keep going, and we kept the tickets, and she asked me to come to the games because she didn’t want to go with other friends, girlfriends, whatever. She wanted me to go. So last year I I started going again, started going back to the games again. Three years, three years, three or four years, maybe.

Nestor Aparicio  32:44

I mean, I must have known that. But during the play, nobody went right, that’s

Leonard Raskin  32:48

right. So that just added to the added to the ledger. But I went back and I want to watch football. I want to see the games. I enjoy the games and so on. But I think they’re their conduct in this area is pathetic. You know, I just think it’s ridiculous. They they the standards they hold are bizarre, and what they think is

Nestor Aparicio  33:13

last year, yeah, I thought that was ridiculous, and nobody asked a question. I thought that was ridiculous because I know Ray, and I’ve never been raised. Ray’s

Leonard Raskin  33:22

recuperated himself, and he’s done some good things coming back since. But you know, there are they

Nestor Aparicio  33:29

lied and covered it up, and nobody lost their job over that part of it. Ray Rice lost his career, right? Nobody there that played the cover up game of lacking integrity, getting him to the field to stand up for that woman who got punched in the mouth in a glass nobody stood up for her. Nobody, including Ray Rice himself reading off his phone in front of the Ravens logo, which like for you to be upset about the Wembley knee, right? I mean, that’s a political side. That’s an American thing. It’s a patron I’ve had the guy on who told Colin Kaepernick, take the knee the Navy SEAL. I’ve had him on Nate. You can go, you can go watch it. Yeah, he thought taking a knee was respectful. It’s genuflective. It’s reflective. It’s taking a pause. It’s showing respect. It’s showing honor. When you kneel before God, you kneel before creators. So all of that, you’re angered. Lots of people are angry. That’s fine, like for me, the issues I have are completely free of charge. Yeah, about kindness, about decency, and really about, are you trying to make my life more difficult for your pleasure? And that’s really, yep, what it goes back to the press pass with Maryland and putting our parking passes at the Marriott and green like, just crazy. Are you? There comes a point where I’m 55 years old. I’m from gundawg, and I’m no dummy. When I’m like, Oh, you’re trying to be an asshole. I get it. All the jokes on me. Oh, I get it. It’s like the guy on Facebook today that told me I should be. Serving French. Oh, you’re trying to be snarky. Oh, right, get it. You’re funny. Well, you’re nice guy your wife. Like, that’s to me, like Chad Steele saying I’m not a media guy. Oh, you’re wise guy, right, right? Like, I’m really done this for 30 today and no one will notice, and you’re just gonna skate. Well, I’m not gonna let him skate, and I’m not going to let the cost escape by texting me and saying, Well, I think it’s all wrong, but I’m not going to say a word about it, because, you know, I’m not a real leader here. When you’re the general manager of the organization, or you’re John Harbaugh, and all the John Harbaugh’s executives have told me, John runs the place. John is the one who ultimately did this to me. John did this.

Leonard Raskin  35:38

Yep. Well, there you go. Yes. You know, like you said, people, people post things, and they say things and they do things, but I guess in the end, they all listen. You know, they all listen, right? No one listens. That’s right. Ask Rush Limbaugh. Listen. Rush Limbaugh. I mean, he’s dead, he’s deceased, but, but he was the number one radio show for 100 years there, and what did he say? They can love me, they can hate me as long as they listen. Well,

Nestor Aparicio  36:06

I don’t feel that way. I felt like I wanted every listener, and I felt like, right, it was important for every sponsor to show that I my audience was bigger, bigger, bigger, bigger. And I know you love Tom Davis, I’m not him, I’m not Rex Barney, I’m not Chuck Todd, and I’m also not Charlie Ekman, and I’m also not Jason lock and for who I see his work, and it’s like a wrestling character. Now, I’m not Stephen A Smith. You know, I have been the same dude on the radio for 33 years. I’m the same guy at your ice cream party as I am at your crab party. Yes, I will be this Friday as I’m on the oyster tour, like I have nothing to hide,

Leonard Raskin  36:42

and well, it’s good to see. Here’s

Nestor Aparicio  36:45

the thing, to have my work disrespected by then. Bottom line to put me on what they say. Effort to have you disbelieve my credibility right is shameful, shameful, and I will continue to do my job the way I’ve done it, which is, you know, watch my column this this week. I feel like I was fair to them the other night when they lost to the chiefs. You

Leonard Raskin  37:06

know, that’s right, that’s right, and that’s all you can do. You tell the truth, and you don’t have to remember anything. That’s the beauty of it. When you tell the truth, doesn’t nothing else matters. Well, that’s how we live. I

Nestor Aparicio  37:17

hope to keep it. I know you do that with people’s money, whether bad mark, anything you want to say about, you know, going into election here in the next six, eight weeks of things, because I see all of this as a Russian work and a Chinese work. And there’s going to be some big thing that’s going to happen. I know they watch

Leonard Raskin  37:36

the debate. Gaza, watch the debate. Be interested. Yeah. Be knowledgeable. Pick based on you know, what you see, what you hear, learn, read, don’t just take the gospel of a network, a website, a Tiktok, a whatever. You know, the fact that Vladimir Putin endorsed Kamala Harris is really not that important.

Nestor Aparicio  38:01

I don’t think that’s true, by the way, but while we’re on things, so I don’t know. I don’t think there’d be anything about that that

Leonard Raskin  38:06

I don’t know. The weekend, over the weekend, Fox News, it

Nestor Aparicio  38:09

must have been letter Raskin is here. We’re not going to get into politics on that, because I’m not putting, you know, it’s got to be fact for me to report it. So what is a fact is how I’ve been treated by the Ravens. And you can go read about that, and I have all the text here. What is the fact is that the ravens are all one. What is the fact is that the Orioles better start winning some baseball games. Is that this is one of the great weeks in Baltimore music history. We have girl jam in town on Thursday at a beautiful new arena. We have Bruce Springsteen at a baseball stadium where the guy who owned the team for years didn’t want to have Jimmy Buffett and Van Halen and other bands come in downtown’s going to be vibrant. Styx is in town on Friday. We got a football game. On Sunday, the baseball team comes back to play off vibes next week. Things going on here Maryland to get some fans out of their games as well. There’s a rumor that they start hockey this week. Is that true?

Leonard Raskin  39:04

Preseason, like starting, but we still got, we still got lucky guy, and we still have, we still have a little bit of time about 2025, 30 days till opening day.

Nestor Aparicio  39:13

No, but they are there in camp. Yes, yes, yes, yes. What happened to my summer Leonard, dude,

Leonard Raskin  39:21

it’s September. Summer’s gone. Summer’s gone. September, pumpkin spice and apple cider. I’ll do the apple cider. Not a pumpkin guy. Lena Raskin

Nestor Aparicio  39:30

does the American dream. He does it for folks with their money. If you need money advice, need a good ear. Hey, I got a tax question by Leonard. He’s a rascal global. He’s also at the front of Baltimore positive. He will be at the game on Sunday. I will be at a game together at some point for it’s all over here this month. Find him, find me, and find me out on this crazy oyster tour. And if you’ve never had a poached egg on top of an oyster fritter on top of. Inch toast with a little fresh ground pepper on top of that. Get on over to the urban oyster. I had just a delicious brunch meal there on Sunday ordering things I never thought I would order in my life. That’s what an oyster a day will do. It’s all brought to you by our friends at the Oyster recovery partnership, trying to do good things for the bay, and our friends at Liberty, pure solutions, 800 clean water. I’m back for more. I’m Nestor, Baltimore, and we never stop talking Baltimore positive. I.
