Nestor J. Aparicio  00:00

Welcome home we are W n s t test the Baltimore Baltimore positive we are positively not in our studio today we’re doing the Maryland crabcake tour. We are here at Pappas. I want to say it’s Parkville I still call it Parkville your original sign here, Pappas restaurant and sports bar. I got the sun shining and I feel like superstar grand back in the 70s I walk outside my glasses change home of Oreo games here every night and for at least a little while and they do have a lottery sign outside the Gold Rush sevens doublers we’re giving these away here at Pappas Parkville our friends also have some PAC man’s leftover on our friends at Liberty pure solutions, keeping the water crystal clear. And our friends at Jiffy Lube for driving this crazy thing we call the Maryland crabcake tour out on the road. I am delighted to be back here Pappus today I’m even more delighted to have old friends and I’ve never had on the program before. I don’t know how well I really know John paddy formerly of WB al but I knew enough to never invite you on my show when you worked at WB al I don’t know exactly when you got there when you ended and as small demore would have your opening the Pappas menu. Genie here at Pappas, the general manager world famous crab cakes, my friend Jeannie was your junior assistant DJ with the John Patty’s DJ delights back in the 1990s right totally

John Patti  01:25

wrong. Totally wrong. What do you had music pack DJs that we call music pack? DJs from 1977 to 1993 I

Nestor J. Aparicio  01:33

think Genie sent me the logo on this. Yeah, music we

01:36

had the brochure. Pa K K. And the reason we did that was because Yep, there you go. Is that it? That is it music pack DJs we named it after a six pack of beer Joe Vilius and I formed this name. We figured well, we’re always out drinking six packs. So we’ll call it music Ellicott

Nestor J. Aparicio  01:53

City, Ellicott City, Maryland entertaining since 1976. Yep.

02:00

76 We did. The first one we did was at the Arnold fire hall was 100 bucks. We got we did an oldies job down at the Arnold fire 76 Nights turntables. Oh, well, buddy. It was turntables. It was turntables not only wasn’t turntables. It was belt driven turntables then because we didn’t have any DJ equipment. I got Joe had a turntable, I had a turntable. They were both belt written. He had what we call the dog house, which was about as big as your set here. And we carried that to the gigs. Drop the needle and pray. That’s it and pray that the floor would hold because people would dance late 70s You’re doing disco? Yeah. 77 That’s when it all started with the disco. Yeah,

Nestor J. Aparicio  02:39

man. You’re doing the hustle out there.

02:44

Calling the gang celebration. Was it back then if you didn’t play celebration, she was playing my wedding too.

Nestor J. Aparicio  02:50

Well, you go to blast games, too. So did you know I had a DJ business? I did not know that. My DJ business and we went through this two weeks ago at state fair with Howard shear humping Howie who was out with me. But we met at a Skipjacks game in 1984. I had a DJ business from 1991 until about maybe 98. When nasty, Nestor had a radio station. I probably did a couple of gigs when I still had the station. But I was asked DJ over at Emerald Tavern and a bow hangers and a bunch of other places. But my era was CDs. So we had the new mark CDs. We had the PV 15 Oh twos Batman help outfit me or your Gordon Miller music. They weighed about 4550 pounds each

03:35

of us standing on a universal stand up the tripod stand

Nestor J. Aparicio  03:39

and then I had CDs that I bought little they were this size size of the Maryland lottery tickets and the little plastic sleeves. I took them out of the jewel boxes. And I had I went to the hack injures reference. I went to hack injure security bar and rolling No, no, no, this was over gold ring. Not the one on merit Bulevar because it was gone by then, and I got toolboxes, red toolboxes, and he sat in toolboxes. So I had a jeep. I had the PV 15 Oh, twos I had the stands. I had the new mark case that everything’s shorter, same kind of thing I have here. And then I had like seven, seven different toolboxes so I take 4000 CDs. How many albums Do you carry to Arnold Firehole 1976

04:27

Well, we use the crates the crates are the albums were in but the 40 fives were in these boxes that we built that’s

Nestor J. Aparicio  04:36

so my soul to be a DJ right now. Little speakers away five pounds, right? These kids don’t know everything. Everything was like

04:44

all we have left or backaches. Now,

Nestor J. Aparicio  04:48

I came here today and Jeannie saw me setting up and she knew you were common. She’s like, I was John Padma and a DJ business. And I said, Man, we’re gonna have to talk about this. What did you get out of it?

04:58

I got out of it. And it Three,

Nestor J. Aparicio  05:00

right when I got into it, Ron Levitan was doing this I did jobs for Ron and Brett Hollanders dad worked with Ron and like, so I remember all those big ol people but Tom Gavin Tom Gavin’s

05:12

DJ delights Tom Gavin was my competition but he was one of my best friends because I work with Tom Gavin had wi th radio he was the sales manager so I

Nestor J. Aparicio  05:21

got my started wi th

05:24

I was there. Am 1230 wi

Nestor J. Aparicio  05:27

th the station with the stars you go with Alan Jackson Can ya can JACKSON 10 JACKSON Allen field and Rockin Robin rockin rom that’s where I got my start.

05:38

I was there from 1980 to 1985 Light

Nestor J. Aparicio  05:44

street up on the fifth floor fifth floor.

05:48

Get off the elevator in the western beauty open the door.

Nestor J. Aparicio  05:50

This serendipity has has come the Parkville today that you and I start. I guarantee you all the same crap was on the wall and 99 He was probably in there and

06:00

Aquila there. She was the Traffic Manager Aquila.

Nestor J. Aparicio  06:04

No Aquila was gone. Well, Jim Warden pulka Pelkey were there?

06:08

Nope. They don’t ring Okay. All right. But and also when I was there named a guy named Ted Jaffe was there. Ted Jaffe was a WC EO back in the 50s and 60s,

Nestor J. Aparicio  06:17

I knew Paul Jaffe who Yeah, no, no relation. So 93 you close this down? We’re gonna get to get Gavin on. We’ll get to you in a minute. Gavin came out and did the crab cake toward me about three years ago, and heavy seas brewing with Cooper’s tavern doing burgers. He’s doing real estate up in Bel Air Tom Gavin’s one of the really decent humans that I’ve met in life’s journey.

06:39

I love tom tom Gavin despite being a Boston Red Sox fan, so I use that against tennis did too so we were together wi th he was a sales manager and I just got fired at W FBR. I was there from 77 to 80 with Johnnie Walker. And there FM was the 96 FM who were there with Ekman two then I was there with Akman EQ EQ and EQ and I like to say did the eulogy at my wedding so but we had some oftentimes

Nestor J. Aparicio  07:02

will tell you something later a later a later call to Kathy on patty. Hey, he would go down those are rivals guy he’s a right guy that John real right is a real right guy.

07:14

So yeah, here we go down a little Italy and eat and drink all night long. And then he come in about 1111 30 and lay on the couch. And then Frank de vente Minneapolis my time straight. Frank Divini had to wake him up. Hey, kid at five o’clock so it coach Coach got a half hour. already. Let me go in the bathroom. He put some aftershave on and boom, fire up one of his big green cigars. Oh, yeah. And and Chevys. Regal. 530 in the morning. He was born Chevys. Regal, believe you me. Let me tell you some.

Nestor J. Aparicio  07:42

Oh man, John, Paddy is my guest for Parkfield talking. So when did you start appeal?

07:47

I started there in 1984. The Wow. The pecking order was I was at nav in 1975 to 77

Nestor J. Aparicio  07:56

WP and everywhere. Well, dude, you’re like the Johnny Cash on Baltimore radio. I

08:01

got fired twice from W nav. Once you get fired for the first time I got fired. I’m on your 1975 I was 20 years old. Okay, wet behind the ears. I’ve been

Nestor J. Aparicio  08:09

fired one time but I’ve had sponsors fire me up million times. Yeah, exactly.

08:14

Yeah. So I’m 20 years old and it’s election night in Annapolis. Okay, okay, so I am covering election night. I don’t know one

Nestor J. Aparicio  08:22

of years old which is Blair Lee. We do know this man city of

08:25

Annapolis city of Annapolis. So this is for the Mayor of the City of Annapolis. And there were two or three candidates running. And one of the candidates name was Ronnie Wainwright, Ronnie Ronnie Wainwright. I didn’t know anything about the candidates because I didn’t do any homework because I didn’t know anything about politics. And on second reference, I refer to Ronnie Wainwright as he, Ronnie is a girl. Okay, so the next day, I get a phone call from the general manager, Fred keister and Fred says, You need to come in a little bit early today we need to talk and I got fired that day. Because I didn’t know the that the candidate was a female instead of a male.

Nestor J. Aparicio  09:06

You don’t read the papers. Did you consider yourself a journalist or did you consider yourself a radio guy because I

09:12

sit on myself I broadcast a broadcast or not a journal. I made my living as a journalist but I am a broadcaster. Okay, I’ve been very luckily lucky over these past 50 years in radio. I

Nestor J. Aparicio  09:23

do not consider myself a broadcaster although Bruce Cunningham did say I was a broadcaster at one point. I consider myself a journalist right so I don’t put broadcasting and weirdest thing as you get older and I know you’re in semi retirement Correct. What are you doing these days? So I taken out when John Lowenstein jersey, that’s

09:39

that’s now wait a minute. With all due respect to Lowenstein. Look at the back of that says Patty, it says Patty Lowenstein is Jersey it is but I was a big ol 38 years. So my going away gift was an Orioles jersey with my number 38 Okay, now that’s not my favorite number of the Orioles. But, you know, with all due respect to Lowenstein, I gotta Lowenstein story too, but that’s that’s for those who

Nestor J. Aparicio  10:01

are 38 I’m trying to think t-bone shall be worth through, but mellow again was 39 I’m 37 was Shelby Well,

10:08

let’s put it this way. I heard Schilling probably worth

Nestor J. Aparicio  10:10

38 Yeah, not for the orange.

10:13

I’m a big numbers guy with the Orioles but once they got into roster changes, like every other hour, you can’t follow it. And now the numbers are in the 60s 70s and 80s I mean, when Alan Mills was 75 I looked at that and I’m like 75 for a baseball player.

Nestor J. Aparicio  10:27

That doesn’t Allen Mills my favorite all time Oreo you just named dropped him. So that’s crazy. Yeah. But you know, Luke and I were at the bar over Costas. Last week. We did the crab cake tour over there. We retired to watch the Oriole score 17 runs and we were like watching the Yankees and we’re like all their numbers are retired like one’s gone twos gone. Threes gone fours gone. Several of them have several are all

10:47

gone up to 10 and 11. Yeah, I mean, there was Elston and Howard was tested when

Nestor J. Aparicio  10:52

a guy’s pitching these were number 87 for the Yankees. You can’t you can’t fault them well, I

10:56

mean, that’s the way it’s gone just doesn’t look like spring training any now because yeah, they are from one to maybe 10 or 11 are all retired so I’m

Nestor J. Aparicio  11:04

do the math now. 38 years you started in 84. That means that you retired 2222. I

11:10

retired the date. I got hired February 4 1984. February 4 of 2020. What are you

Nestor J. Aparicio  11:16

doing? Well, how are you today? And listen, I’m not here to kiss your ass because you work for my competitor. But you’re too young and vibrant to be rich. You should come back and do radio

11:26

Mayerson Well, I’m not well, I’m not retired. I just do it. Well, I’m in three bands. First of all, I played percussion and three new this. Yes.

Nestor J. Aparicio  11:34

What are your bands? Well, the

11:36

first one is a classic rock band is called Liberty Road. And you can go to Liberty road.net and find out where we play. Our next gig is this Saturday, we’re playing in downtown Sykesville right outside the vine on Main and the sexual distillery. Okay, outside there. We do that and it’s all very part time. So I’ll do that and we’re there once a month. Then the second band I’m in is called no strings attached. And that’s three guys and a female singer. So it’s four of us and we pet play hits from the 60s girlfriend maybe NEMA wave that kind of stuff like that. Okay, it’s a surfy surfy little sort of adds a mandolin lead okay and more like beautiful music type style okay

Nestor J. Aparicio  12:14

dinner hour,

12:15

but yes, but a little Lonzo has a voice like Linda Ronstadt and Mama cast together. She is absolutely incredible on the voice. And we’ve been at State Fair in fact, I’m waiting for Brian guy. Hello, Brian guy, Brian, Brian, give us a call because you said we’re gonna be there May June, July and August and we still haven’t gotten the rest of the schedule down. So we’re supposed to be at State Fair there.

Nestor J. Aparicio  12:35

I’ll be back at State Fair, sir. Yeah, they’re

12:37

my sponsor to get the brussel sprouts. They’re awesome.

Nestor J. Aparicio  12:39

So you know what, I’ve gotten the State Fair lately that’s been phenomenal is they have a salmon a parmesan and crusted salmon that they do with the jasmine rice and a broccolini winner Okay, by the way, speaking of winners, I’m here Pappas and we add the chicken I don’t want to say is it France as French AC French cheese, chicken, french cheese, chicken breasts lightly flour dipped in egg and salted wine, lemon butter. That was my lunch here perhaps today.

13:05

And I was I was going through the menu when you bothered me because the problem

Nestor J. Aparicio  13:09

is everybody gets a crab cakes here. And this is the problem with the whole tour. Every you know, we were Coco’s couple weeks ago. I’m like everyone’s crab cake. Get the coconut shrimp there when I I’m trying to find things here like the chicken franchise. I love it here at Pappas. So that’s my little sort of goat and they also have a side they have a potato here like a twice baked potato that nobody they call it a jack knife. Here’s the word right. Nobody does that. You got to get when you come to Pappas, you get that

13:36

but the side that you had and I shared with you today was the cauliflower. That’s special. It was it was so special, silky. It

Nestor J. Aparicio  13:42

was beautiful. It was cauliflower. Oh, Groton. Are you from originally wish or would you go to high school?

13:47

I’m from Pike, so I went to Mount St. Joe High School Class of 73 on a golden Gail.

Nestor J. Aparicio  13:52

You’re gonna sing the song The way Alvarez didn’t mow

13:55

them man sage. Okay, so that’s the high school years. But gosh, we’re like three stories back. Well, I never finished Tom Gavin’s story. So Tom, I got fired from FBR in the United States in 1980. So I went to work at wi th and they were still playing Barbra Streisand and stuff like that. And 90 music of your line wasn’t giving you life yet. It was about to become it was about to become that and they became music of your life in some time and at what was

Nestor J. Aparicio  14:26

called middle of the road, then.

14:30

We’re gonna play it.

Nestor J. Aparicio  14:31

You get two old guys together. We come up with all sorts of things we haven’t thought of. So anyways,

14:34

today’s Britain they bring this hotshot sales guy in from Boston, Tom gaff, gaff and Tom and I get to talk and at the time, my DJ company and I was doing steak and Ale out in Timonium. Okay. And in fact, I beat out the Batman for that gig. Okay. Mike Beatty rest his soul. He and I were in competition to get that gig and I got it. He did. He did much better than me down in Ocean City.

Nestor J. Aparicio  15:02

I think he did. Okay.

15:02

I think he did just fine anyway, so I told Tom, I said, yeah, why don’t you come out? You know, one night I’m there Thursday, Friday and Saturday night. Come on out. So he came out and he got the book. He got he says, John piatti. He says, I like to do these DJ thing. I haven’t done these things in years. I said, Well, why is it duty? Good, Gavin,

Nestor J. Aparicio  15:19

man. Why don’t you come out and do it? Take a picture you and me and send it to Gavin right now. Just he’ll be down here. 20 minutes if we do that, just defending his own honor. Here we go. There we go. All right, Tom. Kevin’s gonna get

15:32

Tom Yeah, so he gets the bug. So he being the marketing genius that he is. He starts Tom Gavin’s DJ, changed the lights and wipes me off. The faces were

Nestor J. Aparicio  15:42

advertised everywhere. Everywhere. He was it was either Tom Gavin or Steven ALMAZ want you to talk about it was what was going on in the 80s. But

15:51

there was Bill Davis and Davis DJ Davis DJs. I work with Bill Davis at W nav. He did wonders

Nestor J. Aparicio  15:56

in Annapolis guy, right? Yes. Okay. So I went into the DJ business in 1991. I reported the word this wasn’t in the documentary, by the way. But no, it was Thanksgiving weekend in 91. And there was a sign on the wall just like the sign they had here welcoming me. And it said anybody wants take a bite out and leave the paper. Read up on it. It was you know, so I had a chance to buy out and I’m like, What am I going to do with my life? You’re

16:21

wrong. That was in the documentary. I saw it last well,

Nestor J. Aparicio  16:23

I took the by the, I think the buyout in on Martin Luther King Day 1992. And I got my jeep and drove to the Minneapolis Superbowl where Thurman Thomas left his helmet. So but during that two month period of time, I’m 23 years old, right? My life was over. I had to do some soul searching about getting a job in the newspaper business. My father was about to die. And I’m quitting my job that my dad thought was gonna give me a gold watch for life. Like literally right? That I thought what am I going to do? I had been the music critic at the paper for six years

16:56

and a music critic at WB il for a short time

Nestor J. Aparicio  16:59

and dirt. Yes, thank you. Dave durian Yes, another one. God rest. His soul day was great to me too. I had all of these CDs and I was such a music head. You know, I mean, I’m still to this day. By the way it were a belt buckle today that I thought you’d approve of I wore the cars today. My cars belt because I had I had found the memory of the cars. Greg Hawkes talks. I heard that show, Greg. Greg was on this week. So I wore my car’s belt. Oh, he went to Appleton who knew I did not know this until two weeks ago. Really? How could I not know that? And oh, Kasich grew up around here, right? I heard that. Yeah. So nonetheless, I though I thought what am I going to do with my life? And Kenny Albert, who I had on three hours ago, Kenny did an hour with me this morning about his book, right after the Stanley Cup Finals. And Kenny I was doing the the skip Jacks beat writing. And Kenny said, I’m doing the show with Jerry Coleman. That’s nice, but I’m like, I gotta have income. So what I did when I took the buyout at a buyout at the paper was $23,000. That was my annual salary then a $23,000 check probably 70 1516 grand. The first thing I did is I took $1,000 1500 on the side, and I bought a new mark mixers and of equipment. I went over to Gordon Miller music with Batman with to help me Batman helped me pick stuff out. You’re gonna need this, you’re gonna need that it’s been I mean, that was my dude. And I bought the equipment for the PV speakers were 300 apiece, the universals were 100 bucks. The equipment itself was 600 bucks. 1500 bucks. I’m in business. And all of a sudden Critics Choice DJ is alive. And the only way to get gigs was I was advertising to Dundalk Eagle. Right. I was doing radio, starting at wi th and I said I’ll DJ your party your wedding. I was doing bars. But Tom Gavin, Ron Levitan. Davis DJs. Johnny cuts the godfather. Yeah, these were people that had jobs that a 22 year old guy with equipment. The thing Gavin loved about me is I had my own equipment. He had 10 sets of equipment, crappy equipment. You always had to go out and use I had he could call me in a pinch on him. He did. You call me 10 o’clock on a Saturday morning. Say? I had a I need you today. I had a cancellation. Can you go do this wedding and Stevensville Tom, I’m there for you. I’ll give you $75 Tom, you give me 150 Or I’m not doing? So nonetheless. That was a business that I

19:26

was charging 149.

Nestor J. Aparicio  19:28

I know. I know. But what I’m saying is I guess you got out of that right when I got into it. We’ve lived an interesting life together without really ever talking really.

19:37

I mean, it’s been decades and decades that we’ve known each other existed but really haven’t crossed paths. until this very moment in Pappas.

Nestor J. Aparicio  19:44

I told Jeanne, I don’t remember ever knowing a lot about you other than you were. And I want to I want to preface this because you have worked a lot of people you’re one of the few people that was really nice to me. You know what I mean? Like? I’m rough around the edges. As you all know, Jeff Beauchamp and I I’m whoever the the old boss there in the 90s I’m trying to a tall guy, Ed Kira Kiernan, those guys like I was evil to I was. I was over at 1570 making noise, pissing them off. You were making noise. Yes. Correct. And they didn’t like that, right? They didn’t want me it just wasn’t it was so the PL thing whether it was Josh Lewin or Jeff Rimmer who just retired and his son’s hockey team just won the Cup last night. Jeff from her right here. Yeah, you know, like all of that 90 stuff not to mention how much I love 98 rock right. And you know, I love always love 98 Rock always loved all the jocks there. The PL thing was always a little sticky, because you were the flagship. And I was in and I was always pushing edges like still to this day. Yeah, but you were always nice to me what I never felt comfortable like, and maybe this is like the prick in me to be really honest. I never felt like after I was established that any of you want it to like be friend, the long haired outsider, when you were the establishment in that way.

21:05

I’ll tell you how I came across you you probably don’t even know him. I

Nestor J. Aparicio  21:08

don’t know any of that. We were both somewhere. I don’t know you that well, I just know I like you.

21:12

We were probably covering something or added some type of outing or whatever. So far. I’ll piss you off. Don’t worry. That’s good. So far. We’re doing good. So you, you were you and I were drinking a Corona beer

Nestor J. Aparicio  21:27

where I can’t remember I didn’t drink. I don’t drink a lot of Corona. But okay,

21:31

this was years ago, you had a Corona, I had a Corona and we bonded on Jimmy Buffett.

Nestor J. Aparicio  21:36

We were at a buffet show. We’re gonna show we’re gonna go to the bar. We’re at a bar. We

21:39

were somewhere. And we both had a Corona. And that’s where I met you. And remember what bar? I don’t know. I can’t remember what I had for

Nestor J. Aparicio  21:47

dinner must have must have been a third or fourth Corona. That could it could have been, but that’s

21:50

nasty. He likes Corona. And he likes Buffett.

Nestor J. Aparicio  21:55

He’s an alright guy. He’s real right guy. Alright guys. Thank god to John patty is my guest. I don’t know why.

22:04

I don’t either. Well,

Nestor J. Aparicio  22:05

here’s the fascinating part of this is that I went to Jamie Costello’s farewell a couple of weeks ago, and part of it was my wife broke her ankle. And it was just a really rough week getting around. She’s a lot of pain. And I’m like, I wanted to do it. And I gave it to her as the North Star because she had been in bed all week. She couldn’t work. She’s on narcotics and wouldn’t let her work. So I dragged her out that night, I said, Look, I’m gonna put you right by the door, get you comfortable and bring people to you. And when I read the guest list of people going to the party. It was like that party were like, I gotta go because there’s so many people there that I like so much that I want an ad. Yes. And my walk in the door and there’s pee Kurinji and there’s you and there’s Jeannie and there. And it was just down the line me I still didn’t talk to Mark McGrath. I didn’t get to talk to Mary Beth Marston and I want to invite them on the show as a couple sort of like What the What’s the woman in the morning? What’s your name? Kate, the former the world television woman in New York that does a show with her husband. What’s it what’s the name of Kathie Lee the one to replace Kathie Lee Kelly Ripa Kelly Ripa does the show with her husband. Okay, so I want to get McGrath and and Mary Beth flake on together, you know, but I didn’t see either one of them at the party. Well, Jamie took a selfie. And then you came up and you were nice to my wife and you were nice to me.

23:24

I mean, Jen looks great. I mean, I didn’t know that. She busted her leg. But what the hell does she has been through she looks great. She’s she’s doing okay. My

Nestor J. Aparicio  23:32

wife is tough woman. Yes, she is. She’s very tough. So I saw you. And I saw a whole bunch of people and it became like, come to the show with me. Come to the show with me. Come hang out. Come and you’re like, I want it said yes. That’s not true. Steve Elliott’s here. He’s gonna be he’s gonna be joining us in the middle leave. I

23:50

haven’t pissed him off yet. But I’m still trying to do I

Nestor J. Aparicio  23:53

need him to defend my honor over here before

23:56

it’s all over. He’s a veteran at this. I’m the rookie.

Nestor J. Aparicio  23:59

You’ve done a lot more radio than me. Maybe you have. Maybe you have it. I’m not sure. But so this is

24:05

your 51 for radio for me.

Nestor J. Aparicio  24:07

Do you miss it? Well, I

24:09

don’t I’m not actually out of it. Because I still produce my Christmas show Christmas in Maryland. It’s one one on 1.9 W li F Baltimore’s Christmas music station.

Nestor J. Aparicio  24:18

That’s the station that bleeds over into my radio station with our towers are 50 feet apart. Well,

24:22

yes. Well, they used to be on Hart road. Well, I

Nestor J. Aparicio  24:24

don’t heart row we would pick up the phone back in when I bought the station. And you would just hear Mariah Carey singing You know, we’re Phil Collins. I mean, I’m talking my 9899 2000 it’s called RF the format it was RF and the format in my station on the phones was that and trying to get w li F out of tape back in the the analog run through the walls, we would have literal tape. Impossible. We would have commercials that would have the sounds of Barry Manilow behind you know what I mean? You’d hear oppa cabana kind

24:54

of bleeding through but yeah, anyway, so I still do the Christmas show. It’s a five hour show. It’s all about Christmas time. Maryland I go all over the state. I bring my recorder. I’ve in fact I just got back last week from Tangier island in Virginia. Okay, I went there because a bunch of us guys and our wives went there for a couple of days. But there’s a Christmas story there that I did. And that is there a bunch of airline pilots from Pennsylvania and Maryland who every year in December, they take off from the Bay Bridge airport in Stevensville. And they fly to Tangier island with bags and bags and bags of holly. They call it the holly run because they can’t grow holly trees on Tangier Island. Now this started back in the 40s. And this continues today and I’m thinking this is a great Christmas in Maryland feature. So I interviewed some pilots I interviewed Jamie Parkes, who owns Lorraine’s restaurant on Tangier Island. That’s where they all congregate to have a crab cake and a soft crab in December. Figure that out,

Nestor J. Aparicio  25:52

respect the crab cake tours see that he’s out of Papist he knows what’s up and alertly so Tangerang Yeah, to get a crabcakes. So

25:58

that yeah, and the crabcakes I want to tell you, and I told this to the guys, I said this crab cake is okay, because it’s where it is, but it’s not a Papist crab cake. Oh, you got upset about that? This has the balm for crab. See we’re

Nestor J. Aparicio  26:12

not solicited. By the way when I told you that I was doing the short package like right, it’s right in my neighborhood. I’m like, now I’m not in cockys film and this is the this is the original. This is the this is the original path right here.

26:24

Nestor J. Aparicio  26:26

I came here for the first time I told Steve pappases When I was six months ago that the show here came here in 1981. My next door neighbor got had a second marriage later in her life. She was in her late 60s at the time she met met a gentleman and they they got married. They lived in this neighborhood. They had their wedding party upstairs here.

26:42

I dance. So many parties here DJ, buy the car up in friggin steps.

Nestor J. Aparicio  26:47

That was always the deal about setting up I said the Cine today. You don’t pay me to do the show. You pay me to set up the equipment. That’s DJing I’ll DJ for free if you carry the equipment, right? That was kind of how it was back in the day that these kids today they don’t so you don’t teach a party you like I

27:03

haven’t kept up with the music since the late 90s. I mean, if you’re going to if I’m going to DJ it’s going to be stuff from the 70s and 80s and all the stuff and believe it or not you go to a wedding. I mean they’re still starters that you know they’re still old time rock and roll they’re still celebration they still play those things. A lot of Motown still gets a lot of run

Nestor J. Aparicio  27:20

around Sue will get get the dance floor film and Well anytime you play well.

27:25

And the secret is when you don’t have a dance floor plan a slow song play Elvis can help falling in love play heatwaves. She always in forever just play that. They’ll get the dance floor, then it’s up to you to keep the dance floor. Speaking of

Nestor J. Aparicio  27:38

27:46
