The Ravens filled their open roster spot Sunday by claiming veteran linebacker Robert James off waivers from the Atlanta Falcons.
Third-year receiver LaQuan Williams was waived earlier in the day to create a place on the 53-man roster for James, who was a fifth-round pick in the 2008 draft. The 29-year-old has appeared in 18 games in his career, including all 16 for the Falcons last season while serving primarily on special teams.
At 5-feet-11 and 224 pounds, the Arizona State product is undersized for the linebacker position but figures to be a contributor for special teams coordinator Jerry Rosburgโ€™s coverage units. James made 11 tackles last season.
Prior to 2012, Jamesโ€™ status within the Falcons organization was mostly in flux as he waived on a few occasions and bounced back and forth between the practice squad and the active roster.
