Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith and his family are safe after being robbed at gunpoint in Los Angeles earlier this week.

According to The Athletic, the veteran defensive back and his family were followed from Los Angeles International Airport to their hotel, where they were held up. Smith and his family were unharmed, and the 32-year-old informed the Ravens about the incident.

“We are aware of the situation involving Jimmy Smith,” the team said in a statement released Friday afternoon. “We have spoken with Jimmy, and he and his family are safe.”

The 2011 first-round pick and California native signed a one-year contract for the 2021 season worth up to $5 million and $2.5 million guaranteed. Smith has spent his entire NFL career with the Ravens and is one of only a few players remaining from the Super Bowl XLVII team.
