OWINGS MILLS, Md. — Practicing outside on a chilly, windy day in Owings Mills to prepare for December conditions in Cleveland, the Ravens saw all but one of 53 players on the active roster take part in the workout.
But that one was linebacker Ray Lewis, who was absent from the portion of practice open to the media as he continues to recover from a turf toe injury that’s kept him sidelined the last two games. Coach John Harbaugh would not provide any update on Lewis’ status when asked on Wednesday afternoon.

Cornerback Chris Carr (back), linebacker Dannell Ellerbe (thigh), and defensive tackle Arthur Jones (concussion) returned to practice after missing the Ravens’ Thanksgiving game against the San Francisco 49ers. Jones has finally been cleared for contact after suffering a concussion in Baltimore’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Nov. 13.
Linebacker Terrell Suggs had his wisdom teeth removed over the weekend and continues to deal with the effects of the procedure despite being present during the open portion of practice on Wednesday afternoon.
Safety Emanuel Cook took part in his first practice with the Ravens after being claimed from the New York Jets on Tuesday afternoon. Harbaugh said Cook, a 2009 undrafted free agent from South Carolina, will contribute to the special teams units and will have the potential to work his way into the rotation at safety in the future.
Harbaugh also expressed the organization’s condolences over the passing of former Pro Bowl defensive tackle Chester McGlockton, who served as an intern coach for the Ravens two years ago. McGlockton played for four teams during his NFL career, including the Chiefs, Broncos, Raiders, and Jets.
