Just over a week before NFL teams must trim their preseason rosters from 90 players to 75, the Ravens have released veteran cornerback Chris Johnson.
Reportedly struggling to deal with migraine headaches over the last couple weeks, the 33-year-old had missed a sizable portion of training camp and missed last Thursday’s preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons. Johnson was battling young cornerbacks such as Asa Jackson, Marc Anthony, and Moe Lee for a place on the 53-man roster.
Signed last November to sure up a roster that had lost cornerbacks Lardarius Webb and Jimmy Smith due to injuries, Johnson played in five games, making seven tackles and forcing a fumble. Johnson was active for the AFC Championship against the New England Patriots but did not play in the other three games of the Ravens’ run to a Super Bowl championship.
Johnson signed a one-year deal this offseason to remain with the Ravens, but he was never considered a lock to make the regular-season roster.
