5. Brooks Robinson does it all in the 1970 World Series

The Orioles bested the Cincinnati Reds in five games, but the 1970 World Series provided the showcase to the rest of the world of just how outstanding third baseman Brooks Robinson was with the glove and at the plate.

On his way to a record 16 Gold Gloves in his Hall of Fame career, the 33-year-old Robinson made a plethora of outstanding defensive plays over the course of the series, continually frustrating Reds hitters as he had to the American League throughout his career. Robinson also hit .429 with two home runs, two doubles, and six runs batted in to earn World Series MVP honors as the Orioles won their second title in five years.

The third baseman’s performance prompted Reds outfielder and future all-time hit king Pete Rose to say, “Brooks Robinson belongs in a higher league.”
