After a year away, assistant coach and retired linebacker Zachary Orr is returning to the Ravens with a new job title.

The 29-year-old will become Baltimore’s new inside linebackers coach after spending last season as the outside linebackers coach in Jacksonville. Head coach John Harbaugh and the Ravens haven’t announced any staff changes since the hiring of new defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald late last month, but former inside linebackers coach Rob Ryan and former outside linebackers coach Drew Wilkins are no longer listed on the team’s official website, confirming their recent departures. Baltimore must also replace former tight ends coach Bobby Engram, who departed to become the offensive coordinator at the University of Wisconsin.

After the discovery of a congenital spine condition forced Orr’s retirement from football at the end of the 2016 season, the North Texas product transitioned into a defensive coaching analyst role with the Ravens from 2017-20. Last February, the 2014 undrafted free agent and 2016 second-team All-Pro selection left with former Ravens defensive line coach Joe Cullen when the latter was hired as the Jaguars’ defensive coordinator under Urban Meyer, who was fired by Jacksonville in mid-December.

Orr will be tasked with getting more consistent play from talented 2020 first-round pick Patrick Queen, who will now play under his third inside linebackers coach in three seasons. His reported return to Baltimore was met with no shortage of favorable reactions from Ravens players on Twitter.

In 46 career games (15 starts), Orr registered 163 tackles, three interceptions, one sack, and six pass breakups.
