OWINGS MILLS, Md. — Defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan remained sidelined from practice as the Ravens continued preparations on Wednesday for the 2015 season opener in Denver.
The second-year defensive lineman injured his right knee in the third preseason game on Aug. 29 and has yet to return to the practice field. Head coach John Harbaugh said last week that Jernigan’s knee would not require surgery, but it remains unclear whether he will be able to play against the Broncos.
Rookie third-round pick Carl Davis would start at the 3-technique defensive tackle spot if Jernigan cannot play.
Wide receiver Breshad Perriman (knee), running back Lorenzo Taliaferro (knee), and cornerback Rashaan Melvin (thigh) were also missing during the portion of Wednesday’s practice open to reporters. Perriman and Taliaferro are not expected to play in the season opener while Melvin has dealt with a lingering hamstring issue over the past month.
After being absent from the beginning of Tuesday’s practice, linebackers Terrell Suggs, Elvis Dumervil, and Daryl Smith were all present and working a day later.
No other Ravens players beyond the four absentees were listed on Wednesday’s injury report.
Meanwhile, only one Broncos player missed practice on Wednesday as reserve defensive end Kenny Anunike sat out with a knee injury.
Below is the first injury report of the week:
