To all of the folks in our extended community at Baltimore Positive and WNST-AM 1570 listeners and friends:

In celebrating our 25th Anniversary at Baltimore Positive and WNST-AM 1570, we are planning our inaugural “Crab Cake Row: A Cup of Soup Or Bowl Week” next week from February 5th through 9th in conjunction with five fantastic local, family restaurants and we’d love for you to come by, participate and be a part of our live “radiothon” of sorts as we hope to raise awareness for 100 different charities, community groups and raise food and donations for the Maryland Food Bank and local pantries.

All of those years of watching Jerry Lewis every Labor Day inspired me to inject a little winter week of local old-school WNST community, charity and storytelling magic in our unique Baltimore Positive spirit and way. So, I’m trying to pull together my 32 years on the radio to create an annual event that lifts folks around us during the coldest month and right before Valentine’s Day.

The plan for our marathon of love is grueling yet quite simple: we’re doing five days of the old-school “live” radio show at WNST-AM 1570 on the radio dial (please set a spot on your dial in the car) or audio streaming here via LISTEN LIVE and virtually on social media from 9 am ‘til 5 p.m. every day bringing the Maryland Crab Cake Tour to life during what used to traditionally be “Radio Row” and the biggest football week of the year.

Over parts of four decades we did 27 radio broadcast weeks and all-day-live football broadcasts at WNST-AM 1570 from The Big Game featuring all of the big Hall of Famers, out-of-town stars and celebrities – mostly with national charity stories and promotional “asks” – but now we’re serving up the very Charm City local “A Cup of Soup Or Bowl Week,” which will feature free Maryland Crab (and Cream of Crab where available) at five iconic locations, all day long in exchange for listeners, viewers, supporters and soup lovers donating canned goods or other non-perishables for the Maryland Food Bank. And we’ll be giving away plenty of Maryland Lottery scratch-offs and doing radio and having some fun as well with the live show on site and all-day chats and good mojo about helping local folks.

So, you either get a cup of soup or a bowl of soup – get it?

Here is the schedule (from 9a-5p daily):

Crab Cake Row: A Cup Of Soup Or Bowl Week:

MONDAY 2/5: Faidley’s Seafood at ORIGINAL Lexington Market (still there a few more weeks)

TUESDAY 2/6: Costas Inn in Dundalk

WEDNESDAY 2/7: Koco’s Pub in Lauraville

THURSDAY 2/8: State Fare in Catonsville

FRIDAY 2/9: Pappas Restaurant in Cockeysville

Our guests that week will be folks who do great things and need to be featured on Baltimore Positive and on our radio station and throughout our 100,000 followers and everyone we know who might want to be aware of their cause and work and might want to help in some small way. We’ll also have celebrities, fun friends and our local sponsors and supporters bringing their favorites causes and the “why” to life on our radio and throughout our vast network of folks we’ve touched over 25 years of WNST and now 32 years on the radio in Baltimore.

My plan is to do this every year so we’re trying to make it great this first time with folks we already know in some way but I still have space for more local charities if they can make it out to one of the five sites next week, please have them toss me a note: nes@baltimorepositive.com. I also love to tell a great local story about folks doing great things who need a little face time and 20 minutes to spread the word!

I’ll be working hard the rest of the week to get everything ready for next week and I’d love your support with a share of our events and the work we’re doing in the hopes that you can gather some friends to drop out for lunch or a drink in the afternoon and listen en route on WNST-AM 1570. And drop me a note and let me know you’re coming or make a reservation at any of the fine local establishments hosting us. (And get a world-class Maryland crab cake and a beer while you join us!)

Thanks for taking the time to consider joining us the week of February 5th. And I really hope to hear and tell a story that moves you to act or donate on our airwaves at WNST-AM and via all we do at Baltimore Positive.

I hope to see you next week!

Cheers,

Nes
