Measuring the Skerry progress of Towson hoops and the long, hard march toward March Madness

Our old pal and Towson Tigers head coach Pat Skerry returns to WNST to discuss the recent success of his local program and to properly measure just how far it’s all come since he walked into our studio almost 14 years ago. His journey and commitment to local basketball and winning has led them to a top seed in the CAA Conference tournament.

The big Ravens Maryland Lottery winner returns with his Voices of Hope to help others overcome addiction in Harford County

He bought a Ravens scratch-off Maryland Lottery ticket on Harford Road 18 months ago and T.J. Humphries is going to the games with his daughter for the next 20 years. He returns to “A Cup Of Soup Or Bowl Week” to tell Nestor about his cushy club level seats but also his amazing story of addiction, recovery and now helping others via his Voices of Hope recovery and mentoring journey.

Talking Dundalk love and sports history with Catonsville women’s hoops assistant James Thomas

When we take “A Cup Of Soup Or Bowl” to Costas Inn in Dundalk, old friends are bound to walk in and when James Thomas tried to sneak out, Nestor pulled him back in to discuss everything that’s happened since he was the quarterback of their 1978 Pop Warner football team in Logan Village. Let now CCBC Catonsville Cardinals assistant women’s basketball coach Jimmy T and Soup For The Soul’s Stacy Nagel tell you why Dundalk folks stick together almost 50 years later.

Kate Bell tells Nestor the safety story for senior dogs and Reed’s Rescue

Our final stop for “A Cup Of Soup Or Bowl Week” was at Kooper’s North in May Chapel, named after a dog, so it was appropriate that Kate Bell brought Nestor her safety story of true love for senior dogs. Reed’s Rescue, whose mission is to provide care for older dogs, often overlooked in shelters, by placing them in foster homes and finding them adoptive families, was named after a dog named “Reed,” whose name was inspired by a certain Baltimore Ravens’ Hall of Famer.

Tooten discusses his Deep South journey and state of education and race in America

Dr. Tim Tooten was no stranger to Baltimore citizens. The longtime education reporter at WBAL-TV and pastor of Harvest Christian Ministries joined us during the early days of COVID in June 2020 to tell us about his journey from the Suwannee River near Gainesville, Florida to Baltimore and what he has learned about people. A very compelling conversation with a Baltimore education reporting legend, who had just retired from his work as a local journalist. We lost a treasure with his passing.

Making sense of Trump’s America

It’s been a while since our government policy expert Matt Gallagher of The Goldseker Foundation has joined us at Faidley’s but with another Trump government and a stocked cabinet of completely unqualified humans about to run the United States of America, it was time for Nestor to try to attempt to make sense of nonsense reality.
