Welcome home. We are W, N, S, T. Am 1570 towel, Baltimore. We are Baltimore, positive, positively, getting you through the winter into spring. We’re going to be 60 degrees at some point here this week, which is time for crab cakes. For us, we’re getting the Maryland crab cake Tour presented by the Maryland lottery, in conjunction with our friends at GBMC and our newest sponsor at foreigner and Dermer foreign in and Dermer see, I see, I told him I’m going to mess that up again and again. The comfort guys, I’ll be comfortable next Wednesday at gertrude’s with Dan Rodricks. Friday we moved to Costas and Dundalk, not the Timonium locations. Means we can have crabs on Friday, and then on Tuesday, the 10th will be at missones in Perry Hall. All of it brought to you by the Maryland lottery. I will have Harlem Globetrotters scratch offs to give away, which still, there’s apparently a bunch of Lucky tickets still out there. So if you’re feeling lucky, come see me at missones Next week. John Martin is here. Been a lot of lucky people since the last time we got together. I think today’s my lucky day to learn about home run riches. So, but I’m gonna that’s a spoiler alert. We’re gonna keep that for the end. How Much Money Pete Alonso and Tyler Ward and Tyler O’Neill are going to Taylor Ward and Tyler O’Neill are gonna have costing you, but winners, winners, but nothing quite like tickets for 20 years and a lot of excited Jesse Minter fans. And we’ve got the big winner, right?
John Martin 01:24
You know what it’s it’s luck is running amok. How about that here at the Maryland lottery, we have, we have great stories to tell and all the details at MD lottery.com but yes, once a year, every season after the after the confetti has fallen, we pick one lucky winner in our second chance contest to win ravens season tickets for 20 years. And Miss Sharon Kozinski of White Marsh is our 2026 winner. You can check out the video online at MD lottery.com and see the excitement she and her son are going to enjoy that for many, many years to come. Great Ravens fan, it’s always, it’s always wonderful when someone who’s really into the team and has been playing the game and following it gets gets the win. It’s, it’s very satisfying for them and certainly for us as well.
Nestor Aparicio 02:19
Well, she’s standing next to Jimmy Smith, who I always liked as a raven, who’s always been kind to me as well. And I mean white, Marsh local purple. This is what it’s all about. And this is i Seth always tells me this is your most popular promotion every single year, more people play the Ravens than any other game that you have, right?
John Martin 02:38
Yes, yes. And you know, Hope springs eternal every every summer when we launch the ticket, sometimes it doesn’t work out that way. And, you know, we kind of lose focus during the latter part of the season. So yeah, a lot of optimism going into the next campaign, and Sharon and her family will be enjoying it in season one of their 20 years.
Nestor Aparicio 03:00
All right, look, we got other winners. I’ll get to that. We have other things we talk about, since we’re on sports and since we just did, do you want to do the home run richest thing?
John Martin 03:11
Oh, absolutely, you’re like a kid on Christmas morning. You can’t wait to get into it, right?
Nestor Aparicio 03:16
Well, I was going to say, like when I think of ravens tickets for 20 years. It used to be called tickets for life. And you have pass for cash. That used to be like some jack wagon, like me, trying to win money. And then you go and get real, like football players that try to help you win money. So you, you tweak, you tweak these things. I know what you do. You added Grand Slams have like, are worth some money. We did that the Orioles have tweaked too. They move the fence back, they move the fence in. They’ve been tweaking with you, doing the whole hokey, and they tweak the lineup with some heavy hitters here this year. So I mean, West Bergen holiday are out, but they’re going to hit a lot of home runs, which are going to cost you riches. And yes, tell me about this, John. Come on.
John Martin 03:57
Well, for people who may be enjoying our conversations, that’s a dwindling number. But for people that may be enjoying our conversations, you’re well aware of our annual home run riches campaign. Again on their second chance contest, you buy a $5 fast play home run riches. Walk off winnings ticket, and if you don’t win, don’t don’t distress. You can enter those tickets into the second chance promotion, where we draw six times during the season once a month for each and every game the Orioles play, you will get a contestant of the game. That lucky winner wins $500 if a Orioles player hits a home run, that’s another $500 for every home run hit. And should that be a Grand Slam? That’s $5,000 and over the years, we’ve given away 1000s of dollars, hundreds of 1000s of dollars in home run riches. But this year, 2026 will be very, very different, because in addition to all of that, there will be one lucky winner each month, six winners throughout the season who will get a VIP experience. So ask me, Nestor, what is the VIP experience? What?
Nestor Aparicio 05:00
John Martin, Executive Director of all things Maryland, lottery and gaming, what is the VIP experience for home run riches?
John Martin 05:07
I’m glad you asked Nestor. Each winner will receive four tickets to a game they’re selected for in the premium club section. That’s brand new this year at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
Nestor Aparicio 05:21
I’ve been through this. I talk about this in the real I can’t afford those seats, right? So, like, you know what I mean. So this is something that like this wins. When you win, you go, all right,
John Martin 05:30
not only do you go, but three others tickets for four to the premium club selection for the game. Of course, a parking pass to get you in and out upon arrival and get there early. Each winner, their guests were escorted into the Masson all access studio for a pregame interview that will air that later that day. Next the winner, their guests will walk through the warehouse and onto the field, onto the field to watch the visiting team’s batting practice. The groups then escorted up to the premium club section, where the winner and their guests get dinner, snacks, beverages. And we’re not talking about just getting the foot long and a beer. This is an amazing
Nestor Aparicio 06:14
I bet crab cakes are evolved. If it’s crab cakes
John Martin 06:17
in there every night, it’s incredible when you look at the material, even better than crab cakes. Don’t tell anyone. They said when you look at what the game day menu and of course, it’ll it’ll be changed all throughout the season. But yeah, you’re talking about five star dining up in the premium club section. Of course you get tickets outside the section, in the premium club seats.
Nestor Aparicio 06:42
Catch a foul ball back there, maybe?
John Martin 06:45
Yeah, bring be ready, head on a swivel.
Nestor Aparicio 06:48
I don’t know, with all the Cajun they put up now that, you know, come back the way, but that used to be the best spot, you know, any left and the right on the club levels, where all the foul balls went, all the check swings. You know,
John Martin 06:59
if people don’t know, if they don’t have a visual, it’s right below the press box, right? Basically, I want to say it’s like, I’ve got to hear somewhere see 37 to maybe see 31 I’m sorry, to see 43 straight Anderson
Nestor Aparicio 07:17
hit me with a heater back there that came, you know, over. You know, foul ball, you know, just missed it.
John Martin 07:22
So, so you have the option, if you want to just eat and drink your face off, you can stay in the premium club section, or you may want to watch it in from inside the club. Or you can get outside into these premium seats. So that is quite and, of course, how many of us are going to win? How many is it? Once a month we’re going to we’re going to we’re to pick one a month. So these six winners through the year, tickets for four and all these, these things, plus our man Mike, on our lottery video crew, will be sitting with you throughout the game and ready to capture that moment. Should an Orioles player hit a home run your real time in the game. Excitement of winning $500 and again, if it’s a Grand Slam, would be $5,000 so we’re really looking forward to this. And I know six people yet to be determined are really looking forward to it too. So should be a lot of fun this year.
Nestor Aparicio 08:14
Something magic happens. It’s baseball season. Home Run riches is back, and Grand Slam still happening. Oh, yeah, I’m just was asking,
John Martin 08:24
I don’t know. Oh, I don’t know what I missed the part I left some money on the table to be selected the VIP experience. You do not get $500 you get $2,000 so we’re really kicking it up a notch. So go ahead, Pete Alonso and the rest of your Oreos dig in, swing for the fences. Let’s make these VIP experiences really something.
Nestor Aparicio 08:46
Every time one of these grand slams happens or the bases load, I’m like, It’s costing John Martin money. He’s the Executive Director of all things Maryland lottery and gaming. They’re putting us out on the Maryland crab cake tour. Great Sports promotions year round, whether it’s the Raven scratch offs and now we get into home run riches. We’re in that little bit of lull period where I’m having fun with the Harlem Globetrotters tickets next week for the three events I’m doing. But word was kind of out from Roz that we’re gearing up for a scratch off that’s coming, that I asked her about, and I said, I’m going to talk to John about this, because I know you were inundated last year, and my wife even got involved with this, which was the Maryland art contest that will become this, I can’t hold it up because I don’t have it yet, but will become the art for the scratch offs that I’m going to have in the spring. And I know you’re excited about that, and I got excited about it last year because I told my wife about it. She’s very artsy. And thoughts of Maryland, images I’m I’m intrigued to see what one but more than that, the lucky losers too, because I bet you got some just great things that finished 12th, right?
John Martin 09:53
Oh, yes, absolutely. It was a great turnout. And again, for people who aren’t familiar with that, we put out a. A an offering several months ago to artists within the state of Maryland to share with us their their visualization of what Maryland means to them. And we got a variety of incredible watercolors and paints and and and sculptures. I mean, just, just art. There was, there were wonderful.
Nestor Aparicio 10:22
You know, I read it all, and some of the rules were just like, it had to fit the shape of the ticket. But other than that, it was like, have at it. You’ve got a Key Bridge. You got Ocean City. I mean, Maryland’s like the United States and micro mountains, Shore, fish. It’s all of these stay horses. Anything could be Maryland. I just thought it was so open for interpretation that you would just get great art and you’re giving money away. It was a real contest with a real prize for cash money for when. I mean, I just thought it was intriguing. How many entries did you get? Are you allowed
John Martin 10:56
to say, oh, boy, you know what? I don’t even know. It was in the hundreds, that’s for sure, but we had to, and it was tough decision. We picked four. So what will happen? And we will kick this off. We reveal on Saturday, March 7, at the Maryland Home and Garden Show, the artists will be there. We’ll have little reveals of the pieces of art. Each one of them will be there to kind of brag about what they’ve done. And the ticket will be on on sale shortly thereafter, and it will be a $2 ticket, so that you can buy $8 worth of tickets and get one of every scene, if you’d like, because there’ll be on consecutive, 12341234, in a roll of tickets and a book of tickets, so come to the Home and Garden Show. Actually, we’ll be there getting ready for our spring event season. We’ll be at the home and garden show this weekend, February 28 when it kicks off, which is bring a non perishable food item and get 50% off your ticket, in cooperation with our friends at the Home and Garden Show. But the following Saturday, March 7, is when we’re going to reveal the four winning pieces of art on our Maryland treasures ticket. And yes, you’ll be able to have those in your back pocket, or wherever you keep your tickets when you’re doing events throughout the spring and summer. And we’re really excited about how the public will react to this. Should be a lot of fun.
Nestor Aparicio 12:20
Just like the Grammys or the Oscars were, like, there’s an academy that picks the winners. Or like,
John Martin 12:26
Oh, I like that. I like that. Maybe we’ll do that one down.
Nestor Aparicio 12:30
Write that one down. We have winners too. And I mean, you were excited in the beginning. We give a million dollars away. We gave $2 million away. Let’s give some winner stories here, John, this week.
John Martin 12:41
You know what you can get all the details at MD lottery.com, I’m not going to get into all of the storyline here, but you know, just some some top level stuff. I love when this happens. People traveling through our great state of Maryland, a man who is a long haul trucker comes through Maryland from time to time. And wherever he goes in this great country, he stops and buys lottery tickets. Why not? And he stopped in Hagerstown, near the Hagerstown area, recently, and bought a, let’s see what ticket he bought here.
Nestor Aparicio 13:13
Well, I would have bought a donut in Hagerstown and crumpy’s After seven at night, is what I would
John Martin 13:17
have done. He bought the $30 Ace of Spades instant scratch off game. Ended up winning $2 million so before he left town, he made sure he swung by here. That’s a lot of donuts. That’s a lot of donuts. 53 foot trailer behind him here, but yeah, how about that? Huh? $2 million heading back to Texas, where he’s from. But he stopped at, hey, how about this? Martin’s grocery store is where he won the the No relation. I have no vested interest in that, okay, but out west and and enjoyed that when he stopped for buy some groceries for the for the truck, and decided, hey, let me get one of these. These tickets. And bam, $2 million you know, another fun story we had. And I love stories like this one, a woman who from Baltimore retired, decides to invest and have some fun with her, her lottery games. From time to time, she ended up playing the all about the cash game, and won $1 million and it’s really the post win story that’s great. She’s going to Hawaii. There you go. Good move.
Nestor Aparicio 14:36
I like her already. Great Idea
John Martin 14:38
boiling herself with that, and then she’s going to invest the rest of it. And she has always said, and this is a quote, If I could win, I was going to stop playing. And she is saying today that this win a million dollar prize is her last lottery game. So how about that?
Nestor Aparicio 14:55
Going to talk about you? She took your money and she quit you. Yeah, we.
John Martin 15:00
She probably made out on that deal. I don’t know. I don’t know what her her spending. Well, she
Nestor Aparicio 15:03
already made one great decision, to go to Hawaii. So yep, yep.
John Martin 15:07
At second, she went and she bought her ticket at Red ropho out in Towson. So she she made a couple of good decisions along the way. Went to Royal farms to buy the ticket. Won a million
Nestor Aparicio 15:17
dollars a Towson, the one right here,
John Martin 15:20
7204 York Road, the one right here, I don’t
Nestor Aparicio 15:24
know, right here, right here. 72 for Yeah, right here,
John Martin 15:26
yeah, yeah, right could have been, you could have been your wife.
Nestor Aparicio 15:30
Wow, that’s a lot of fried chicken. I would say there, you know, by the Western fries. John Martin is here. He’s talking about winners. We have the big ravens for 20 years. Winner, who happens to be from White Marsh, happens to be a huge Ravens fan. We have home run riches kicking off. Here. We have the Maryland art tickets coming very, very soon. And I That’s March 7, right around the corner. Am I leaving anything out here? We’re actually doing the Harlem Globetrotters fulfillment, right? The game’s coming up in a couple of weeks.
John Martin 15:58
The game will be March 15. And again, we have our lucky winner who will be we have a number UMBC, right? Yeah, right, right. We have a number of winners who won tickets and merchandise packages, and one lucky winner who will be actually on the bench court side. And who knows what shenanigans might be involved.
Nestor Aparicio 16:16
I don’t think they do confetti anymore. I think they do silly string, don’t they? I think maybe I don’t know. I don’t know, as long as it’s not the water you don’t want, you don’t want to get, you don’t want to get the bucket of water. That’s that’s always for the referee, right?
John Martin 16:29
The referees got that right? There’s always, yeah, there’s always a counterpoint there. And the Washington generals would usually get that right. Do they still play the Washington generals? I don’t know.
Nestor Aparicio 16:38
I don’t know. I don’t know. I’m trying to learn about the savannah bananas, because that season is gone as well. So John Martin is here. He’s the Executive Director of all things Marilyn, lottery and gaming. Of course, we always say, if you’re still gambling on football, don’t it’s seasons over. Please don’t. But we got March Madness coming up. We got baseball season come up. Please gamble response and one under gambler. Go ahead,
John Martin 17:01
John and nice segue, sorry to step on you there. But next week, we’ll talk more about problem gambling, awareness month, March of every year, not by accident, to coincide with some of the events that you just mentioned, basketball tournament not being the least of those things, but certainly things going on in the month of March, making sure either Seth or I, whoever will be on these airwaves, will reinforce one of our one, what our Problem Gambling Awareness messages are, and where he get more details.
Nestor Aparicio 17:30
Good, all right. Well, I’ll be doing a man of letters as far as my column goes. In March, we’ll be writing some stuff out, taking a little downtime. But before we do that, we have three Maryland crab cake tour stops beginning next week, starting at Gertrude. It’s my cousin’s place. That’s John shields place at BMA. Great, great food. So great that I’m going before the show and having lunch and bringing the dinner home afterward, because it’s the best collard greens I’ve ever had. That’ll be on Wednesday. We’ll be talking about 1966 and Dan Roderick show Friday, we moved to Costas Inn in Dundalk, all baseball that day, baseball preview for the year we’re going to do in Dundalk, in the homeland. And then on the 10th we moved to Perry Hall and missones. Maybe I get the new ravens ticket for winter life down for the meatballs. You know, John, they told me. They said we got a problem with the crab cake tour of missones. We don’t really have a crab cake on the menu all the time. So you get that crab toast on there. Just give me his meatballs. So I’m I’m extending my reach here just beyond crab cakes, but I’ll make him make me some crab soup that night. We’ll be at Mason’s on the 10th. We’re looking forward to that. Appreciate John Martin, Executive Director of all things Maryland lottery in gaming, for joining us. If you need to know more, download the app that allows me to tell folks whether they want or not. MD lottery.com, everything is available out there, and as always, do it responsibly. I am Nestor. We are W NST am 1570 tacit Baltimore. We never stop talking Baltimore. Positive.
