Zach Dermer, Nestor Aparicio
Nestor Aparicio 00:01
Welcome home. We are W n s t am 1570 Towson, Baltimore. We are Baltimore, positive and positively getting into the March where I’ll be a man of letters during March. Luke’s going to be covering all things. Of course, spring training, we have the W n s t tech service brought to you by Cole roofing and Gordian energy. If you’re out on it, you’ll get the breaking news first, whatever that might be, with Lamar Jackson and with Tyler linderbaum. And as we get up on NFL free agency, all of our sports coverage out on the website is going to be brought to you by our newest sponsors, and I’m going to be welcoming Zach Dermer onto the program. I’m going to mess up the Farnon name, but I’m going to get the Dermer name right, because I recover. But the best part of having new sponsors on and local people on, and people who want to be associated us, people already listen to Luke and I and want you to call them for HVAC, plumbing and any AC needs, especially when it’s really hot and the whole world’s broken down, it’s that you call me said, Look, man, I’m going to give you like a month to ramp up, to get far in and Dermer, right? Because I keep thinking Ed farmer, I keep thinking of Lisa Deemer from middle school, like I farnand Dermer, and you’re just like, Hey, dude, just call us the comfort guys. Right, right?
Zach Dermer 01:13
No, it’s a lot easier the comfort guys. And Nestor, appreciate you bringing me on. Super excited to be working with you. And Luke, yeah, foreign and endurmer. Obviously it’s a mouthful.
Nestor Aparicio 01:23
It is a mouthful, but at least you realize that. So you’re not mad at me. I mean, I think it’s gonna be part of my shtick that I mess it up for a while, if that’s okay. You know that’s okay. I’m wearing it. So people know, you know what the heck is going on. I mean, you reached to me about a month ago, and I just want to, like, first off, say I don’t run an ad that says I’m begging for sponsors. I can always use sponsors. Luke and I like to eat my family, my wife. It’s nice. Thank thankful for 35 years, but I’ve never been I mean, I have a media kit. I brag about it. I’ll tell people out on LinkedIn, but I’m not the guy where every other status is by advertising for me or be a part of what I do. So I don’t know what possessed you, because you didn’t answer an ad. You didn’t see something on the website said, I’m desperate for sponsors. Come help me or whatever. Because we’re not desperate, but we’re local. Man, we’re like, you. It’s like, you know your phone stops ringing when the weather gets too good. I beat Bill Cole up about that this morning. I’m like, there is a point where roofs give out and HVACs give out, and people want to know, who do you trust? And I think when you reach to me, you realize I was a little unhappy with my HVAC people, right? I had funky, funky things going on, you know? Yeah, hey,
Zach Dermer 02:31
no doubt. And we’re, we’re happy to team up with somebody local, and, yeah, that’s what we’re all about. I mean, there’s so many big national companies these days, and we’re local. We always have been. So we’re part of the Baltimore community, obviously, as you are as well.
Nestor Aparicio 02:44
And well, you dropped Howard chair’s name when you know and if you’re dropping Howie’s name, you are the real OG and I have Howie on once a month. And Howie does duck sucking. He’s the duck doctor, and he’s been in my top 10 of friends for the last 40 years. My son sat on his lap, but my son was this big. We met at hockey games, and he’s in the industry, and you dropped his name, said, I’m friends, and it, it really is a small to more thing, you know, like, I knew you two weeks and you’re like, I do Calvin stadums H back. And I’m like, Oh my god. Calvin stadium taught me how to sing in 1979 so I, I do think that there is something really underappreciated in our society about the difference between me and the fan and me and W, B, A, L and me and anything else you’ve ever and me in the sun or the banner or mass in or what. But it is amazing that like your name being associated with our competitors, and I’ve heard you on PA. I mean, I’ve known your name forever. I don’t know that everybody knows the difference between the guys that are hanging out knowing smells and like, when somebody comes in and buys an 800 number and buys Google ads that pop up and you’re like, I don’t, you know. I want to trust somebody, especially with my age, back with the smells I was having. I literally didn’t know who to call Zach, you know,
Zach Dermer 04:02
hey, well, we’re happy to step in and help you out at any time. Smells are one of those things, and you’ve experienced that. I mean, they’re tricky. When somebody’s heat doesn’t work or AC doesn’t work, it’s, you know, that we’re troubleshooters. But yeah, smells are just so it smells are personal. The way you describe the smell is probably not the way that I would describe this.
Nestor Aparicio 04:22
I mean, you asked me what it smelled like, and I said it’s a little musty. And then I’m like, it smells somewhere like you went into Memorial Stadium and somebody had a bad number two for a minute or two. You know what it smelled like? You’re been to Philly for a sporting event.
Zach Dermer 04:38
Zach, have you been that blessed? I’ve been to Philly in the city, but not, yeah, but you can offer that bridge, you
Nestor Aparicio 04:43
know, the bridge between the airport and they’re burning. Listen, I’m from Dundalk, all right. I was over there the other day, so I it just didn’t smell good. It didn’t smell like a dead animal, but it smelled musty, but it went away in a couple of minutes. And then you sent like, Dr Shawn out here. Nestor, and between him and my wife, and like, you’re a young guy, I mentioned Schneider from one day at a time. Everybody my age know Schneider. My wife is definitely She’s an engineer. She’s the Schneider I do this. I talk about sports, that’s what I do. She’s the smart one here. So she met him, and they started to source this thing. And I don’t know where they got to it, and I still think we have little mods that are somehow getting into the HVAC that are making some stinkification, of the stink bugification. But like, this is just you and me talking about my age back, and it’s working my HVAC, sort of four years old, sort of new. I didn’t need you for a new system, but you always need, I don’t want to say a guy, because it could be a girl too, but you always need to know somebody because, like, you’re one minute away from discomfort. If the AC or the HVAC goes down, or something funky starts happening,
Zach Dermer 05:48
there’s nothing being present, yeah, nothing pleasant about being without heat or air. In fact, I experienced at my house on it was Sunday night in the Monday morning lose power. He lost power. I mean, briefly it was, you know, four or five hours, it was cold enough.
Nestor Aparicio 06:02
I lived in a big building in the city for 20 years. I didn’t touch anything to get snow off my car. In 20 years, I lived in a building when the lights went out, we had a backup system. The light would go back on. I’d be like, yeah. Condo fees, yeah, baby, how much of those kind of getting steep, you know, taxes kind of like all that. But once you live on the grid out in, like, the valley, uh, you know, tree falls, Hey, man, better eat the ice cream. The heat’s not going to work and it’s going to be 22 degrees, right? I mean, you know that, right? Yeah.
Zach Dermer 06:38
Oh, exactly. And I kind of feel where our customers are sometimes, because people call us in terrible discomfort. My house was still by 65 degrees. That could
Nestor Aparicio 06:46
go wrong when you’ve been 57 I’ve had floods, I’ve had the water heater blow up. I’ve had funky water. I’ve had funky smells. I’ve had no AC on 105 degree day. I have no heat on a 12 degree I mean, I think once you live long enough, and that’s kind of where your advertising comes in and relationships come in. If I called Howard, he’d say, call Zach, he’ll fix it for you. So like, I think there is a point where we all want to have dude. I’m having the back part of my root canal I had done earlier. You got to know that. You know when, when you need, when the toothache happens. You just want to have somebody handy. And I know handy. And I know that that’s really what you and your family been for over 100 years, right?
Zach Dermer 07:27
Yeah, exactly, been. We’ve evolved, obviously, over the years, but we You were always there when you need us. And that’s, yeah, a lot of our big competitors. You’re in the middle of the summer, July 4 weekend, and your AC goes down, you want help right away? Reasonably, some of these big guys overwhelmed.
Nestor Aparicio 07:45
Have you ever been like, we’ve all been in a restaurant on a Saturday night where we’re like, oh shit, we ain’t get fed, you know? Like, I mean, I just literally, I love Cooper’s north. We went after two Fridays ago. It was just packed. And I’m thinking to myself, those poor chefs, that’s all I think about. I think about, like, you go from, like, having 20 tables to 60 tables and a weight out the door and everybody at the bar, and, like, I’m thinking, the first day gets to be in the 90s. That’s a day right where, like, your calls go five times. What does it take you to get somebody out on the worst when you’re in the weeds? How long’s a meal?
Zach Dermer 08:20
It’s still within, within a day, probably, I mean, we we do everything we can to be, I mean, extremely quick, but obviously we get overwhelmed like anybody else does. Yeah, four weeks ago, when I was five degrees outside, foot of snow on the ground, you couldn’t
Nestor Aparicio 08:35
even get to me, dude, you can’t get, you know, when I met you, I couldn’t get to you, and you couldn’t get to me. I mean, literally, is the weekend of the blizzard. It was a league weekend. We lost Michael Brown, fine. And I, I remember, like I was out in Owings Mills, and I couldn’t get to there. Was like, I You couldn’t get anywhere once that happened. And I thought, like, I’m not ad ordering Amazon for the exact reason that I’m going to call foreign and Dermer when I need local you know. So I but the Amazon trucks on those days, and the mailman. And then I thought like, oh my god, your heat goes down, and you can’t even get your truck to me to help me out, because it was that messy, right? And getting trucks out on the road unto itself, it’s sort of like school busses, right?
Zach Dermer 09:16
Oh yeah, our trucks are not four wheel drive. We do the best we can. And I would say that, yeah, how much snow do we get in Baltimore, but the extreme cold temperatures without precipitation, that
Nestor Aparicio 09:27
was a really cruddy 10 days. I mean, that four inch lip ice that was on top of that thing that my wife was walking out on every night. And I’m like, don’t break your neck, because ambulance can’t even get down here. Man. Like, please don’t do that. So Zach Dermer is here. They are far in and Dermer, do I want to say the comfort guys all the time, because, what does the comfort guys mean? Because you can brought me some comfort by getting the stinkification out of here.
Zach Dermer 09:51
Yeah. I mean, obviously far in Dermer is our name. We’re all dermers family business. That portion of it is, yeah, is what it is. The comfort guys just a lot easier. Are easier to remember. We don’t sell mattresses, but we do keep you comfortable other ways, heating, AC, anything plumbing related. You guys, only real Baltimore
Nestor Aparicio 10:09
people too. Like, I was out of your place, met some of your family members, like your sports people like from so you sponsoring Luke and the sports stuff that we’re doing here going into the season that all comes on. So I’ll do a little sports. Ready with you? Because I like, I like to know what people are thinking. I’ve been doing this 35 years. Are you 35
Zach Dermer 10:28
you’ve been, I’ll be 35 March 7.
Nestor Aparicio 10:30
So the math on this, my show, my radio career, was born. December 13, 1991 What year were you?
Zach Dermer 10:43
No, so I was, well, yes, I was six months old. Oh, she was born
Nestor Aparicio 10:49
before the show. Okay, I’m just checking that out. So my whole life I’ve been doing this. I don’t remember being on the radio at any point, and maybe like when Ted March or broden Davey Johnson were in and out, we didn’t have a football team the first five years I was on the air. I’m one of the guys that fought to bring the team here. I don’t remember the sort of new awakening for sports fans. I mean, if you’re 35 years old, you only really know har ball since you hit puberty, which is crazy. That’s how long he’s been here. And then before that, there was a Billick period. For anybody that is even your age. You’ve had two coaches in your whole life when the Steelers fans could say that. And there’s a couple of the places where they could say that. On the baseball side, I grew up with Earl Weaver, and I didn’t know anything about anything from Earl Weaver till I was like 15. Now the baseball thing, we’ve had change after change after change. Ownership change has been a massive thing in the last two years. For me to snake that, and for me to wonder, like, for young guys like you, I’m like, all you knew was angelos, like Orioles used to be, like, fun. I swear to you, it was, like, a great thing. That’s how I got here as an Aparicio, like, as a, you know, like, like a drummer. We get here through HVAC. I got here from Venezuela hit the baseball. But I, for me, I I’ve not seen a time like this where I talk to Luke and I’m like two young, unproven, first time leaders, all of this talent, Lamar, Lamar, Lamar, and then the baseball side, gunner and Alonzo. As a sports fan here, I think if you are a sports fan, it’s a great time of interest to say, I don’t know what this is going to be, and that’s how I feel about it.
Zach Dermer 12:29
Well, it’s a lot of unexpected. It’s definitely looking forward to, you know, this new energy with the Orioles. I mean, with with Alby, you mentioned Pete. I think it could be a nice team. I know you’re little higher on the OS than and then Lucas,
Nestor Aparicio 12:43
oh, you listen to the show. See, tell Katie Griggs that, tell them that I’m actually exactly somebody listens. The injuries bother me in the last I was higher on them two weeks ago. Then I’m going to be the next two weeks Absolutely, until I see Kobe Mayo play third base for real, when they pretty much said last year, we don’t want you to be a third baseman, you know. So they they’re doing some experimental things here with the bullpen, especially that with a baseball team, unless they bury themselves in the beginning of the year. I always feel like, well, you’re a trade away, a hot streak away, as long as you’re starting pitching can hold up. And it feels to me like at least they’re better with that this year, at least they’re not going to be 20 games under 500 in June, because they’re pitching stinks.
Zach Dermer 13:24
I mean, Zach Eflin was our ACE last year to start opening day, and now he’s number five, six starter. I mean, you got some depth. There definitely a lot to look forward to so
Nestor Aparicio 13:35
well, yeah, and I thought that the organization spending $19 million on a pitcher in February was something that, I mean, I’ll say this for Rubenstein and Eric Getty, their people have not been very good to me on a personal level or on a civic level. But like, are they spending the money that I’ve seen people write columns about, where’s the where’s the money, where’s the investment? I’m like, Well, you know what they did this offseason. I can’t argue with it where, like last year, Luke hated the Charlie Morton thing and the Sagano thing and all that. I don’t have specific holes to shoot in what they’ve done this offseason. And there is the biggest part of this, which is holiday westburg Henderson cows are beside you. These are the guys that have to be the it’s because if you’re holding on for the Tyler wards or the Tyler O’Neill’s Taylor Ward, Tyler, I’m gonna mess that up, like I mentioned. I’m gonna, I’ll be July, getting both all four of you right, but they’re gonna hit some home runs. I told John Martin from the lottery he’s got his home run rich and like, they’re gonna cost you some money. They’re gonna hit some home runs. But I don’t see this as a complete team in the way that maybe I felt it with 623 year old at bats of Jackson holiday and 625 year old at bats or 20 whatever he is, Jordan westburg, that felt like that’s going to be real productive at bats. You start replacing that with Blaze, whatever his name is, not star. Are and Kobe mayo. I I’m less confident than maybe I even was 10 days ago. Yeah.
Zach Dermer 15:05
Hey, if we have Kobe Mayo of September last year, if he can kind of find his footing and do what we know he’s capable of, it could be a beautiful thing, and
Nestor Aparicio 15:14
then kick the ball around a lot this year, I think the defense is going to we have some days here where Luke and I are going to be scolding the defense, and that’s not going to make Albie look so good, because I think you only have defense is not one of those things. I’ve never seen bad defense even become adequate. I mean, maybe adequate if the bats good enough. You know what? I mean. We overlook things if you can hit the ball. But I I do feel like this is going to be a subpar defensive team on the face of it, and that concerns me for the pitching. And I know Luke and I did a whole segment about that
Zach Dermer 15:45
this week. Zach, yeah, no, hey, everything’s got to kind of come together and be perfect for us to hopefully get back to the postseason this year, which it would be lovely that, you know, ravens coming into town that time of year,
Nestor Aparicio 15:57
like he makes it easier to do. I mean, there are more teams that get in the playoffs than when you were a kid, and certainly me being a little older than you, back in my day, only two teams in the America, you know, was a whole different level of are we going to win the division? They can finish fourth in the division, still make the playoffs, rights or whatever right. So likely chance too. So yeah, especially as stacked as it is, and how much money they’ve spent, if you have been wasting money on your HVAC, and you don’t even know you did plumbing till you did plumbing. For me, I had this whistle going on in my man. That thing was driving my wife nuts, the little whistling, the little handle, I’m not technical. Man, I’m not are you technical or, like, did your family? No, I’m
Zach Dermer 16:43
not very technical. Yeah, I gotta be honest. I’m not very technical.
Nestor Aparicio 16:46
So I would not want you out fixing my HVAC. I want Sean Correct.
Zach Dermer 16:49
I was born with two left hands. You definitely want Sean Tell me about your
Nestor Aparicio 16:53
family in the business a little bit, because you did reach to me. You are. It really speaks to my heart that the younger generation is caught on to the old guy am radio here on the API. But, I mean, I don’t know how you know about me being a younger guy, but I know your family. I’ve been doing this a long time. You’ve been doing this a long time, and I think that that makes this kind of a fun partnership. And hope people reach out to you if they have an h back need, or an AC need, or plumbing need, or any of the other things that you are going to tell me about right now that’s going to wag a finger at these people, like I did about the colonoscopy, because part of this is, you don’t want me coming out talking about things being broken. Do maintenance. I mean, that’s 57 years old. Insurance and maintenance, those are two things we all can use as we get older.
Zach Dermer 17:32
No doubt about it, we’re getting to that point of year. Yeah, hopefully another couple weeks heating season will kind of come to an end. It’ll get a little warmer here. Definitely start to think about your tune ups for air conditioning season, and then just a little bit about us. Nestor, like you, like you asked for, yeah, I’m fifth generation in our company, so I work alongside my dad and my uncle, Eddie and Jay.
Nestor Aparicio 17:55
How does that is that like? Would that be a good sitcom?
Zach Dermer 17:58
Oh, I would think so, especially if you throw the old man in there that you met, you know, Frank, my grand Frank, my grandfather, I’ll come out and
Nestor Aparicio 18:04
really stir it up. You know what? I mean, yeah, if I had all of you on, maybe we a year into this, we got to get to know each other, but I could see a my three sons episode going on here, you
Zach Dermer 18:14
know, yeah, yep, it would definitely be entertaining for you. And then, you know, so my grandfather’s grandfather started the company in 1902 so we’ve been around, always here, always in Baltimore. Yeah, we’re always in Baltimore. We were located down near Pimlico in West Baltimore, okay? And we were there until 2006 and we relocated to Owens mills and, yeah, we obviously have evolved in 1902 that was when air conditioning finally was invented. But we did mostly plumbing, electrical. It just factory worked. It just different.
Nestor Aparicio 18:49
No idea how they heated houses with hot coals, oils, or whatever they did 100 years ago that my dad knew about and lived through. You know, my dad was born in 1919, so part of my sort of old school thing is that I was raised by someone that was, you know, stood in soup lines and Herbert Hoover and a chicken in every pot, and like all that from 100 years ago. I think there is a point, and I met relatives of yours that were there, that certainly had an older school. They reminded me of my folks, even though I don’t feel as old as I am. But I do think there’s something generationally about the city and the evolution of the city that all of us who’ve been here our whole lives, there’s a certain amount of pride that goes into all the for the Orioles, even for the Colts back in the day, right?
Zach Dermer 19:31
Yeah, exactly. I never got to witness the Colts, but I heard plenty of stories, and obviously the heartbreak.
Nestor Aparicio 19:36
So you don’t hate them the way, you know, I mean, yeah, exactly, it’s hard to hate them. Hard time landing in Indianapolis for combines, even 20 years ago, I buried this like I let all that go, because I got to let that go. I even let my Orioles and ravens stuff. I mean, I don’t. I’m still, like, on board with this. Are you more of an Oriole family or more of a raven family? Or is it cut right down the middle? Because my work at the paper in my. Dad, we were Terps, we were bullets, I was skip jacks, I was capitals, we were Terps. But heck, I mean, I support cop and state here, but Towson, UMBC, any Loyola? Anything that was Baltimore for Baltimore, people, that’s where we are. But are you? You talk pretty good. Are you more Ravens?
Zach Dermer 20:19
Um I mean, we’ve been season ticket holders with the Ravens since they’ve been here. Okay?
Nestor Aparicio 20:24
96 four soccer’s license right next to me.
Zach Dermer 20:26
Exactly. There you go. But I mean Orioles, you know, with the ever since, I could say 2012 when we became somewhat relevant, we’ve come and gone
Nestor Aparicio 20:37
like a grown up when they’ve won the second Super Bowl, the first Super Bowl. You were a 10 year old kid, though, right?
Zach Dermer 20:43
I mean, I definitely remember that I was 10 years old, but certainly remember that you’re
Nestor Aparicio 20:46
spoiled as hell, dude, you won a Super Bowl when you were 10, and you want another one, you can, like, drink. You were like, 2020, 22 right?
Zach Dermer 20:52
Yep, down at University of Maryland at that point. So it was nice, and I’d love the war. He was obviously to get there, yeah, I was
Nestor Aparicio 20:59
gonna say, when this happens for somebody like you, with the Orioles winning mean more to you. And so I sort of feel that way, in some way, because we’ve, I know what I mean. I walked in the second parade with Joe Flacco, and I swear to you the first and this is a competitive guy, and I’ve told this story before. I think I might have put in a book. The first thing he said to me, is this bigger than the first one? Because he wanted it to be a bigger and it really was that, yeah, the second was a lot bigger than the first one, just as far as sheer humanity, I don’t I didn’t attend the Oriole parade in 83 I was at game five. I was at the game in Philly with my dad. My dad almost got us killed that night in Philly, but I didn’t go to the parade to experience that. I’ve seen the pictures of Eddie Murray with kids, and I have friends of mine with their pictures in 1983 and the parade, I don’t even know where the route was. Like, it didn’t occur to me to go to a parade when I was 15 years old for the Orioles I was in school that day. I had hooked enough school during the playoffs to go to games that year, but I like an Oriole parade. I’ve talked to Clancy about this, you know, Clancy, the beer man, about what, and I would cry for him because of what it would mean. And I’ve seen older folks the last couple years. They’ve been in the playoffs, where I’ve gone out the games on clinch nights, and I’ve seen people there, and I’m thinking, Man, the Orioles mean more to them than the ravens, not to me. I mean down the middle. I, you know, I talk about them both. Good days, bad days, slumps when they banned me, when they let me in, when they try to sell me tickets, whatever. But for me, I think there’s something about the Orioles that, even for like your relatives that are a little older, and people out there, like just before I die, when please, you
Zach Dermer 22:35
know, I mean, 1983 was, you know, that was a long, long time ago, just to get there again postseason, have a chance. You know, it certainly means something. It’d just be, there’s such a
Nestor Aparicio 22:46
build up with baseball too, when things start going well because they play every day in October, to feel that. I mean, what’s the most exciting you’ve been in your life about the Orioles is it? Is it the Delman? Delman young double like,
Zach Dermer 22:58
I mean Delmon young, I mean my roommates and I in college, we went to game five in I guess it was the Al DS in New York when we lost. That was the year that Raul albanaz, I was at that game. He ate us alive in New York, it was a chance to go to the ALCS.
Nestor Aparicio 23:14
I went to that game. I bought a ticket because they let Luke in, but not me. And Luke and I were there together. Luke is the only time Luke was in a room with Peter Angelos was that night Peter Angelos came into the locker room that night in the Bronx, and Luke and I went up. I had a magical where’d you sit for that game? Game five?
Zach Dermer 23:34
So we were way up in the left hand, and it wasn’t even like Phil bleachers.
Nestor Aparicio 23:38
It wasn’t even like it really wasn’t. And it was a nice night, as I remember it. And I tell Luke all the time that was the one, because they would have played the Tigers, that they could have won the World Series that year. That was the year mark Caicos had was injured, right? Yep, yeah, I believe so yeah, to me, that was their best shot. I agree with you. And so you went up to New York for that game.
Zach Dermer 24:00
Yeah, we’re there. It was me, and I think three or four of our roommates, yeah, we decided the night before, we’re like, we’re going to New York. We have nothing else to do, right? Oh, it’s beautiful. It was the only time I’ve been to New York, the Yankee Stadium, and it was, it’s cool. It’s, I
Nestor Aparicio 24:14
bought a ticket, you know, that McDonald’s that’s right at, you know, right behind home plate there. Yeah, I bought a ticket on the street that night from a dude, older, older man. He was in his 60s or 70s, but But playing a little younger. He was alone, and he had an extra ticket in the club level. It wasn’t the club level. It was like the mezzanine, lower part of the upper deck, and it was down third base, and he just had a ticket. Was 40 bucks. I remember giving him 40 bucks, and I went. He said the tickets with me, and he turned out to be from Mickey Mantle’s hometown, wow. And he knew Mickey Mantle. He was from Oklahoma, and he moved to New York. And it was a lifer Yankee fan that moved to New York because he knew of Mickey Mantle. And new Mickey Mantle through Oklahoma that his and he lived his whole life in New York, dude, I it was like being with my father in a game, like it was the greatest night. I tell Luke all the time. I said I and I didn’t get his number. I was such a jerk, you know, because I could have gone to Yankee. I could have made a date to go with that guy once a year game, and it would have been the great I just had such a was better than being in the press box. But don’t tell Katie Griggs said Zach Dermer is here. He is with farnand and Dermer. I’m going to mess their name up almost every time I say it. They’re the comfort guys. You can find them out at Baltimore positive. Tell me what you do and how long you’ve been doing it and and really, the advice would be like, call you now and just get your maintenance folks out to make sure things cool, because that’s probably the best way to keep your ass out of there. July 4, when it’s 120 fourth, when
Zach Dermer 25:42
it’s 100/12 honestly, preventative maintenance is is key to anything. So we’re heating and air contractors. We’re residential, anything you need when your heat breaks, your AC breaks. We do plumbing, water heaters, some pumps, toilets, stuff like that. But right now,
Nestor Aparicio 25:58
filtration, like salt for a system and making sure everything’s cool
Zach Dermer 26:02
if you live. We don’t do that. We try to, yeah, we kind of know our limitations. That’s a
Nestor Aparicio 26:07
special thing I got you. I’m just asking, because when you say water, water’s kind of, you know, where I live, it’s I got, well, man, so I got, like, you know, I mean, I got the blue, the blues in my sink, you know, the greens and the blues and the pinks and, you know, all that going on. But, I mean, I’m sure you see that a lot in the county, right?
Zach Dermer 26:24
Yeah, oh yeah, all over the place. And we get calls all the time for Wells, but we just, it’s not our thing. You know
Nestor Aparicio 26:30
what I learned, it’s a sediment issue inside of my hot water heater, and I’m not even Schneider, right? Like, literally, right? Like, there’s a whole different level of water that is also a thing. But I didn’t from a plumbing standpoint, you know, your guy came in. He’s like, Dude, you need a new faucet. He’s like, once you get the 1984 he’s like, Dude, come on now. You know, I mean 40 years a long time on a faucet, they make them better. And this is what I learned on the plumbing side. And I know Trump was involved, and we’re not getting enough water, like water pressure and all of that. But I would also say for HVAC, and this is something that I learned, and obviously as electric cost, and we’re all getting a gas bill that we don’t like right now. Man, being refined in what you’re doing can save you a ton of money. I mean, when I got windows, it really like, especially these last couple weeks, it’s changed a lot, and I’m sure I’m saving money from decisions I made three or four years ago, about my HVAC, about my windows, about seepage, about all of those things that you’re the comfort guys. You want to keep people more comfortable, right?
Zach Dermer 27:33
Yeah, exactly. That’s beautiful. Beautiful thing about it with an HVAC system, it’s not a sexy purchase by any means, right? Nobody says hey, hey honey, for Christmas, I’m gonna get you a new furnace and air conditioner. It’s not like that. If you
Nestor Aparicio 27:44
bought it even 15 years ago, sure, let’s say and you sunk your 510, grand, whatever you did, into that system. At what point are the new ones a lot more energy efficient as to be like, dude, I’m you might be saving yourself depending size your house, 100 200 bucks a month. That thing could be worth its weight in gold,
Zach Dermer 28:04
quickly, 100% it pays for itself. Sometimes, especially we do low interest financing or no interest financing, in a lot of cases. So there’s no big you don’t have to hear there’s no big out of pocket. So it really pays for itself. While you’re you need a system. It pays for itself. You recoup it in energy cost. The systems are even from five years ago. The systems have come a long way. Oh, really, they really have. There’s always improvements that can be made. And these systems are dude.
Nestor Aparicio 28:34
I’m still a guy that, like, has always set the thermostat the whole for it reminds me when you come out and do the show with me, whenever you come out and do the crab cake tour, you’re going to wear headset, and I’m going to show you my headset amplifier. The whole thing’s this big, and it has little, little teeny weeny, weeny little knobs that are the size of like toothpicks. And I just nudge it up from three to four, and you’ll you’ll bug out on your ears. And I feel all my thermostat was always that little nipple. Not even a nipple was, like so tight. Was like a top of a pen. It was, like, this big, and you move it. And now, like when I check into a hotel and it’s all digital, and I can set it at 74.2 you know, degrees or whatever I’m thinking to myself, Man, the digitization and the AI and efficiency and how things are built, how my car runs, but just everything runs better. I would think this is a place where you really could save a ton of dough by having a right system, as opposed to a wrong system, right?
Zach Dermer 29:32
Yep, 100% and that’s what we’re there for. So if you definitely are looking for an upgrade, we can help you out. If you have a newer system, we can maintain it. We can fix it. We Yeah, maintenance, service, repair, replacement. We can do anything with your heating and air.
Nestor Aparicio 29:48
So do a better job than Jesse Minter is going to do with the Ravens or no, we have to see that yet.
Zach Dermer 29:52
Yeah, we’ll have to see. I mean, time will tell. Get this man. I mean, Luke
Nestor Aparicio 29:55
and I are like, people like, what are you thinking a new coach? Like, they don’t play till September. Her. I mean, that’s what I wrote this week. Like, how do I grade him? To me, I’m going to grade him if Lamar actually shows up for OTAs and starts looking completely involved and completely engaged. If that happens, that’s what the coach’s job is. But, I mean, Rex Ryan would always say, we don’t coach effort around here. That’s pretty good. Rex too, by the way, said it just like that, we don’t coach effort around here. And, you know, I there is a point where Lamar coming in, the Linder bomb thing, the free agency piece, they got their hands full out there from not making the play. Both of these teams got their coaches and managers fired in the last year. And I think that that for all of us who don’t go away because the Orioles were in last place, who don’t go away because the stadium’s empty, who don’t go away because the kicker missed the kick. I’m still here. You know, you’re still here. We’re all still here. But there is a little point of like, I wonder how the new things are going to work out for everybody,
Zach Dermer 30:51
and expectations are high. I mean, we for both, both clubs. I mean, we definitely expect a lot out of the ravens, of course. And let’s say the same for the Orioles.
Nestor Aparicio 31:00
Well, harbor and hide got fired because they thought the players were good. In both cases, the players were thought to be very good, and the players turned out to not be so good. So it’s definitely lacking. Well, I know you guys are good. You sent me your all star, the gunner, Henderson of your team out here last week, Sean came out here, ripped the place apart, got rid of my smells. But I do think, I think I got like a little moth thing going on that I got to watch you have for my shirts and and by the way, if they eat the new farmer for a foreign in see, I just did it again, farnin and Dermer shirts. I know I get, it’s a little big. I’m gonna wash it, but
Zach Dermer 31:31
the hat gets you some new apparel. We can get you some some new gear.
Nestor Aparicio 31:35
So Zach Dermer is out there. They are our new sponsor. I’m gonna mispronounce the Farnan and Dermer name all the time, but they are the comfort guys, and they’re at a Baltimore positive, and hopefully you’ll remember their name when you need HVAC or plumbing, and I needed both this week, and they came out and did a great job for us. They’re going to be sponsoring a lot of Luke’s works and Luke’s locker room work in in season, which were this close to in season and opening day. And certainly, you know, for Luke, the off season, you think, Oh, poor Luke goes out to Owings Mills and has to deal with Chad steel and get lied to by John. Horrible. I hope mentors better. But like this off season thing, Luke gets more nervous because, like, at any moment, the Lamar, thank you for any moment, the litter, and then then free and then there’s tampering, and then there’s free agent Luke. We were supposed to go to Florida this week and go to three games. Because when I said to Luke, do you want to go to spring training? He’s like, we can’t go anywhere near the NFL. Trade again, free agency. Free agency champ brings the eighth, 910, and then the 11, and then it all happens in the eighth night. We can’t go. And I’m like,
Zach Dermer 32:37
it’s the off season. He’s like, Jeff passes the trade that binder.
Nestor Aparicio 32:42
But when you sponsor Luke, you getting froze. You know your comfort guys. He’s the sports guy. I’m not the sports guy anymore, if you haven’t heard so, he’s the sports guy. So we appreciate the sponsorship, and hello to your family. We’ll get you all out for crab cake and have some fun and get to know each other better. And I appreciate your sponsorship. And on behalf of our listeners, our listeners appreciate the sponsorship, even the ones that hate us, because you’re keeping us on the air.
Zach Dermer 33:04
So how about that? Yes, sir. Hey, appreciate Nestor. Looking forward to working, working with you. At some point
Nestor Aparicio 33:08
somebody’s going to call Zach and say, I hate Nestor, but my damn heats broken. So I call the guys at farnton and durmer. Hey. Are the comfort guys, even though I’m uncomfortable with mispronouncing their name every single time I try, I am Nestor. We are Baltimore positive. We’re W, N, S T, Luke’s going to be monitoring all these things as promised, and we’re going to be keeping it cool around here. Maryland crab cake tour stops ahead. All been brought to you by the Maryland lottery. Our friends at GBMC keeping me alive and well, and our newest sponsor at Farnan and Dermer back for more Baltimore positive. Stay with us.
