Welcome back wn st Towson, Baltimore and wn St. dotnet. We are in radio row in Super Bowl 51 In Euston, Texas on the convention center, and it’s always nice when a Baltimore Ravens stop by we hope he stays a Baltimore Raven. He sings he dances he plays football and we want him back don’t leave you’re not oh man, where are you going? Where you get all the money come on.

Luke Jones  00:35

He didn’t even he didn’t even he didn’t even do it. It was like Where are you going?

Nestor Aparicio  00:39

You know what I did that with Torrey Smith two years ago and it didn’t work a lick didn’t help. So I got back. Tory got paid though

Luke Jones  00:48

to get out of it well, but Tory got paid

Nestor Aparicio  00:51

to catch 50 passes and they said I want I want you to sack the quarterback. I want to be the run stopper. You want to stay I know you always Bureau and soccer. You want to stay I know you do. So paid a man. How are you man? What are you doing here?

Brandon Williams  01:06

I’m good. Just hanging out. Having fun rubbing elbows, shoulders, whatever.

Nestor Aparicio  01:11

Crockett Gilmore says that there were like, you know, a long long lot of flat road and a lot of music on the way here.

Brandon Williams  01:18

Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. We had little in car and truck karaoke going on. Just you know that I want to Facebook, looking at nothing and just thinking about everything. I’ve seen your

Nestor Aparicio  01:28

Facebook act, there’s very few things that you will not share with your adoring public.

Brandon Williams  01:35

Why not? Your unique

Nestor Aparicio  01:37

cat man. Say, Hey, I like that. I like that. Oh, yeah, you’re gonna game? Nope. Don’t go with it. So you play in it? Right? Pretty much. That’s well, that’s that’s a typical, right.

Brandon Williams  01:54

Am I going to Hawaii until I get back to Orlando, Orlando. Orlando, whatever it is.

Nestor Aparicio  02:00

really prefer the why right?

Brandon Williams  02:01

Yeah. But I’m still not gonna lie is that makes it possible?

Nestor Aparicio  02:05

How’s your offseason going? Right. You feel good. Didn’t work

Brandon Williams  02:07

it out. Me and cotton. We’re going out and just hanging out fame,

Nestor Aparicio  02:11

Joplin or Baltimore? We’re

Brandon Williams  02:12

gonna be in Baltimore. Okay, Joe,

Luke Jones  02:15

are you looking forward to the free agency process? I mean, we got to ask you, am I looking forward

Brandon Williams  02:19

to it? I mean, I guess I mean, that’s what’s next. So yeah, I’m looking forward to it.

Nestor Aparicio  02:24

You’ve heard a lot about it. Read up on it.

Luke Jones  02:29

Well, you know, Eric Decosta said last week, it’s a big deal to try to sign you they’ve made it very clear that you’re an A player. And if you didn’t already know, but the assistant GM say that has to make you feel good one, man. And two has to make you think Well, show me the love them. Right. Yeah. That was a hit song. Where’s the love? Yeah, I prefer it. Show

Nestor Aparicio  02:52

me the money. Show me the money.

Brandon Williams  02:56

But it’s all good. I mean, when it happens will happen. whether it happens or not mean, it’s not my hands permit to kind of initiate so

Nestor Aparicio  03:05

we’re making you really soon.

Brandon Williams  03:09

I mean, I can’t say none, but I don’t

Nestor Aparicio  03:11

know. I mean, a nice place for you to be Oh, you have the opportunity.

Brandon Williams  03:17

The whole time these four years, just keep my nose to the grindstone doing my job best I can and make it to this point. And I’m at this point, and we’ll see what happens. I mean,

Nestor Aparicio  03:26

I had a very high ranking ravens official saying, We’re gonna offer him a lot of money. And I’m like, Well, we’ll see. You know, I mean, it’s a big Leesy

Brandon Williams  03:33

Yeah, I mean, yeah, I mean, that’d be great. I love I’d love it number, we’ll see

Nestor Aparicio  03:38

what are you proudest of your lead? I don’t want to see let’s pretend you’re not. But for this body of work, what are you most proud of from the time you got to town till now?

Brandon Williams  03:48

Being me. That’s what I’m proud of. So okay, just stand me stand myself not. So getting swayed this way or that way, by, you know, other people or by, you know, teammates or whatever.

Nestor Aparicio  04:02

I mean, winning and losing you’re, you’re very even I’ll say,

Brandon Williams  04:05

Yeah. And that’s why I mean, if you lose, if you lose, you take it on the chin, and you go back next time. I mean, that’s all you can do. I mean, life is simple. It’s people that make art. I guess.

Nestor Aparicio  04:17

We’re finding that out. Friends, do you live in a part of the world where? Sure, you know, minority means something at that point. But yeah, I mean, I for you played at this level, I guess the last couple of years. I don’t know that we want to envision a defense with it. Right. I know. We’re like we’ve got this hole to fill in that hole. I guess that’s the hardest part for the ravens and for this offseason is that, you know, there’s work to be done. Right. I mean, I guess that’s what they need. For everybody. Yeah,

Brandon Williams  04:48

definitely. Because who wants to be average?

Nestor Aparicio  04:51

Not I know, one of the top football questions. Oh,

Luke Jones  04:55

yeah. Well, I’m gonna ask you, you were asked at the end of the season about a hometown discount now. disclaimer before I pose my question. I don’t like the term hometown discount, because that implies that automatically, even if the offers insanely lower than other offers that are out there that you’ll go there any time. My question is to you, you clearly expressed a desire to stay. If if it makes sense for you, if it’s close, if there are other suitors where it’s close, and whatever closes, that’s up to you, obviously, yeah, you’re making a decision. But if it’s close, do you envision a scenario where you could pick the Ravens even if it’s not the highest offer on the table?

Brandon Williams  05:34

Yeah, if it’s close then and it’s like, coming from known to unknown you know, you know, what you get when you’re in Baltimore, you know, what you’re getting, you know, who you’re getting, you know, who you’re dealing with, you know, your teammates are your coaches are, and going to the team, new scheme, new plays new playbooks and not knowing really what to expect over here. If it’s close enough to where I have to make that decision, when it comes down to that decision. I’m saying the Baltimore because I like Baltimore, my family’s in Baltimore, my son’s going to school and stuff like that. I’ll pick that, you know, that’s if it’s close. So, I mean, that if that’s if that’s the, you know, kind of the factor that makes makes or break the decision, then I’ll stay in Baltimore, if it’s close,

Luke Jones  06:14

does it does it give you hope, and this was a couple years before you came along, but 2011, the Ravens made a long term commitment to Hello Dnata, a guy that you’ve drawn many comparisons to, especially when he loud, does it give you hope, give you optimism that because they valued a player like him now being on the defensive line, similar skill set to you, that, that they’ll show you that same kind of a willingness to make a commitment. Yeah, you know,

Brandon Williams  06:38

but I mean, you never know until it happens. And I’m not gonna get excited, or, you know, like, show emotion or, like, discuss to a team that I’ve been playing for and love. I mean, I don’t have any hatred, no, nothing towards my team. And I love them. But I mean, whatever happens happens. I mean, right now, I’m a Baltimore Raven, and I’ll be a Baltimore Raven until further notice. I mean, I guess. So whether, you know, whatever happens happens with me, I’m kind of on fire. I see my pants and not gonna get excited or down that nothing’s happened yet or nothing like that. I mean, I understand it, you got stuff going on, you got Pro Bowl, you got Super Bowl, you got you know, new guys, you got Senior Bowl going on, and all that stuff. Coaches got stuff. There’s a lot of moving parts. I mean, whatever happens happens, and when that happens, is going to happen. So the only best thing I know is that it’s going to happen. So I’m just just chilling my family and making the most of my time.

Nestor Aparicio  07:35

Yeah, I haven’t had you on radio a lot over the course of time. I think you came out right before Jen got cancer the second time last year? Yeah. I don’t remember asking this because you feel entrenched to me. You know, like, we didn’t have a lot of conversations as a rookie or whatever. And you came in. When you got drafted by the Ravens. What were your first impressions? Like we first impressions guy where you were in the draft process? You could have really gone almost anywhere, right? I mean, probably before the draft, you thought, well, here’s five or six teams that I might go to right then they pick your name. What were your first thoughts? I mean, there’s a championship team you had the stock and all that when you landed in town has it been exactly what you expected it to be? Or is it exceeded the expectations of the day your draft when you’re like, Oh, you’re right. You haven’t been a Baltimore? No, no. It’s really an unknown.

Brandon Williams  08:23

I mean, it hasn’t been the same for me and my very first thought when I heard it thought Baltimore, Maryland crabcakes football first thing that I thought oh, so yeah, it’s been completely consistent the whole time. So but no, like great defense. Championship just stand up organization. family oriented, my all that stuff that

Nestor Aparicio  08:50

you knew that about the rave? Yeah, did your own research 32 cheeks hurt another handful of places you’re like, God, Please don’t pick me. Please don’t you know, like, Ebola was not is not one of those places for anybody, you know? And I think that’s the thing that I’ve seen change over 21 years were when the Shannon sharps and the Tony Sarah goose’s and the rod Woodson started picking Baltimore and then it then we won. And then you know, Billick Flacco re Ed, hello, it says, oh, all those guys, you know, you’re the latest to come into that all that was built ahead of you, that being drafted by the Ravens in the middle round, you know, when

Brandon Williams  09:25

you’re drafted to the ravens, as a defensive player, knowing the caliber and stature of the defense is like, it’s a pat on the back and itself to where you want to be right, because, like, why wouldn’t a defensive player want to be on one of the greatest defenses in history? You know, sure, why not? I mean, the fact that they want me being a part of that, and I feel, you know, honored to be that and I’m gonna play my butt off to keep that statute to where it is. You So that’s why I’ve been playing my butt off because I know where the Ravens I mean, obviously, it’s just just who I am sure. And but I know that’s the statute and that’s what they want me to do. It’s my job to do it.

Luke Jones  10:11

Is it exciting to see the defensive line that’s been built, kind of starting with you as far as transitioning from that whole Lodi era. But Timmy Jernigan, of course, a year after you, Michael Pierce came along this year out of nowhere, Willie Henry and Carl Davis weren’t even in the mix this year because of some injuries and circumstances. Lawrence guy. Yeah, it has to be. It has to be exciting and to take pride in what you guys did this year. Okay. You didn’t get to where he wanted to be from a team standpoint. But what we

Brandon Williams  10:38

did better than the year before? Sure. Always Sure. Great silver lining. Sure.

Luke Jones  10:42

So I mean,

Brandon Williams  10:45

exactly. If you do stay, yeah. How

Luke Jones  10:47

exciting is that? To know that? I mean, that’s an oppressive defensive front, you guys have built? Oh, yeah.

Brandon Williams  10:53

I mean, my guys are hard nosed warriors. And I know, you know, coming back to Baltimore, I know what I got. I know who I got fighting beside me. I mean, it’s like the army. I mean, you trust the guy next to you with your life. And that’s what I do. I know these guys inside and out. And I know the love that they showed me and the love that I have for them. And I know I can work with them whenever wherever. So I mean, coming back to Baltimore with a with a group of guys like that, and our defensive line room. And I have two linebackers, and anywhere on the defense, I mean, it’s just great knowing that I got guys who backed me up as much as I backed them up

Nestor Aparicio  11:29

after the Steelers game. I watched it again for the first time that the play was on one of the televisions here and the arm goes out and I saw see Joe’s, you know, to be that close, and very much so right. And I think when you lose in that fashion, when it is that close to that separator to say, well, we would have been in the playoffs. We would have had a home game. Maybe it was also last week in New England. Yeah, I think that that’s the hardest thing if I were player to accept that part of it, of how close it was, and making it that much harder to sit around and watch this unfold over the last three or four weeks and especially because a lot of things in play all that well in the tournament, right? You sit watch the playoffs. They kind of stunk quite frankly, many kinda let me believe like, man, if we just would have had a ticket in that dance, you know, maybe I could have maybe I could have cashed that ticket. Yeah, I’m in a different week.

Brandon Williams  12:24

It’s tough. It’s tough. But I mean, obviously the teams that went were deserving because they want they did they did their job. They, they they did everything they needed to do to get to that point, and we didn’t so

Nestor Aparicio  12:36

that doesn’t make it easier. Right. You look back. You see Brady and Ryan You’re like, those guys deserve to be here. They

Brandon Williams  12:41

won they did what you had to do to get here. I mean, we didn’t obviously so when it comes to one play a few plays and beginning or whatever, I mean, whoever is in the playoffs deserves it. Because they worked and they did the due diligence and whether it came down to one play two plays or just a straight up book kickin, you know or luck. Luck, you know, once that happens, I mean, you think look at the Eagles game we played that one play that powers broke up that last one play at the end. I mean, that’s the same played Steelers. I mean, you could win either way.

Nestor Aparicio  13:14

Yeah, I wrote the book four years ago when the team won there wasn’t one person and I wrote that in the foreword that didn’t mention luck. Like when I sat and talked to them about winning the Super Bowl walk was was in the first couple three four, you know Yeah, we were good. Yeah, we had a cool yeah, we play well. We were lucky though. We had a lot of luck leaving

Brandon Williams  13:32

sometimes a lot better to be lucky than good luck better to be lucky than good.

Nestor Aparicio  13:37

What do you listen to these days? We you know, anything rocky told me that was rap old rap new country rock. And he Justin Bieber and era? No, no,

Brandon Williams  13:46

there’s no db

Nestor Aparicio  13:49

to figure out what you’re not listening to.

Brandon Williams  13:50

There’s no dip. I mean, I let JB I know you do. That’s why but there’s no JB even they’re not there. Because it was caucus play. What do you listen to? Anything and everything like literally like name a song and I probably heard it and listen to it.

Nestor Aparicio  14:05

Give me your five. Like if I could do a concert for because you’re really in the cloud you on the spot? If they were fine. If I could have a brand in stock, okay, I mean, like, you know what I mean, and we bring them on to Joplin. We’re gonna write who’s playing in the parking lot for us playing I’m just playing

Brandon Williams  14:25

like that our lives no matter

Nestor Aparicio  14:30

if you want to bring all this back

Brandon Williams  14:33

out, for sure. Eminem. I think he’s the best rapper. See that’s what I want to hear. Who else country wise I would go with probably Eric Church,

Nestor Aparicio  14:47

or oh my god. That’s that horrible guy that saying the halftime with Dallas on on Thanksgiving Day is good though. Oh, my God, I still believe that was so bad. I tweeted about how Ben was an unusually I don’t tweet negative things. He’s crazy. Lately doesn’t he sing a Springsteen?

Brandon Williams  15:09

Yeah. Oh, great. So talking about

Nestor Aparicio  15:17

something I don’t

Brandon Williams  15:18

so so he can’t I don’t have a free country so then you can’t really knock it because you don’t even like it to begin with.

Nestor Aparicio  15:26

It’s true. It’s really true. I don’t point take and

Luke Jones  15:29

he’s, he’s quiet.

Brandon Williams  15:32

He loves He loves Escar go and I can’t stand it but he’s like doing so great. No, it’s not

Nestor Aparicio  15:41

what do you like to eat pizza? All right, well that can work with that

Brandon Williams  15:45

pizza PBJs I can live off that.

Nestor Aparicio  15:48

Probably didn’t college. Yeah, now you’re

Brandon Williams  15:51

actually there was Taco Bell College.

Nestor Aparicio  15:53

Now you get enough money, buy whatever you want. You know, I

Brandon Williams  15:55

still go talk with them. I know you. Probably over Eric Church. I mean, I was like going into country Rascal Flatts was okay, I love love Rascal Flatts. So it was great. Great, you know, rock to them. Yeah. Who else? I would say, Man, I don’t even know. You probably know spy. Yeah, I just thought there’s so much music out there. I just think of Brandon. Linkin Park would be there. Who also like, man like, I don’t know. Probably Florida or something like that? Probably. I don’t even know. I can’t. He put me on the spot.

Nestor Aparicio  16:43

It’s really weird sheds. You know what I mean? Like

Brandon Williams  16:48

AC DC. They’re Metallica. I probably have like minded people there. You’re all

Luke Jones  16:53

over the place. I’m like that too. I’m all over the place like biggie.

Nestor Aparicio  16:58

He’s a foo fighter guy.

Luke Jones  17:02

I love Pink Floyd I love rap from the 90s I mean there’s all kinds of stuff

Brandon Williams  17:07

up there slipped

Nestor Aparicio  17:09

away tomorrow night snoops got a flag football game and they were asking me to recruit people like you to play in it you want to play now listen, it’s an amputee game it’s a wounded warriors right? It’s a Yeah. So I’m an amputee because I’m missing a finger. They’re gonna let me play in the empty game. And I’m thinking to myself, How do I turn down playing football with snooze? Can I get an opportunity to see you want to play you can play tomorrow night tomorrow night 686 days I’m not making they literally

Brandon Williams  17:41

already doing it. I might be already doing it I don’t know I talked to the to my people your handler I talked to my people my people will talk to your people you know no

Luke Jones  17:50

literally they came by early I’ll say be careful Brandon Williams get you got a payday come in and careful believe me. I’m not gonna be I’m not your agent but I’ll pretend I for

Brandon Williams  18:00

running quarterback. It’ll probably be like be I probably like the like the five second Blitzer after five seconds you can run the get the quarterback

Nestor Aparicio  18:08

tune in the flag football game. If you’re coming at me. All you have to do is go blue. And I’d be like, No, I’ll take my flag and I’m not running Britain you won’t have

Brandon Williams  18:21

nowhere I’m doing quarterback just like dropping dimes that’s gonna be me just sitting back there.

Nestor Aparicio  18:27

All you have to look into the camera make the meanest face you can make and you make that me I can’t and that’s what you have to do. You have to run. You can just be snoops like heavy. You can be Yeah, you can just be the guy who’s gonna be the guy

Brandon Williams  18:38

like, Steve like what?

Luke Jones  18:40

Right? Okay. You just mentioned thrown a pass. You hadn’t loved seeing denturri bow with his touchdown pass in the playoffs?

Brandon Williams  18:46

Yeah, I was jealous.

Nestor Aparicio  18:50

You want to score and spike?

Brandon Williams  18:51

Check pissed off. Yeah, for sure. Like my favorite player growing up was Jerome Bettis like big guy who ran the ball fight and got sore. takedowns like, why would you? Why would you not want to score touchdowns? Like, as every big guys dream, like every guy who plays peewee football with the stripe in the back of the helmet because they can’t touch the ball here to big

Nestor Aparicio  19:14

sand right now is if the message gets the hardball that you want to be as long now. You won’t be a blocker?

Brandon Williams  19:19

Yes. I mean, in college I played off like you had a package where I went in the offensive guard and I pulled and all that stuff. I want to score though. But I can I can block I played offensive line in high school.

Nestor Aparicio  19:32

Would you rather score a touchdown or throw a touchdown pass? That’s a good door.

Brandon Williams  19:36

Because it’s because it’s me because it’s me. I’m not getting to somebody I’m not giving somebody else teaches me. The touchdown. It’s my touchdown.

Nestor Aparicio  19:44

Did you ever play a position like we’re like, no, You never played a skill because you never know. You ever scored a touchdown?

Brandon Williams  19:50

Yes. And it’s action. Oh, actually in high school blanc abris and we’re playing against bye When Garrett really he tried to screen over my head, tipped it up caught it. Touchdown.

Luke Jones  20:07

That’s a that’s pretty good

Nestor Aparicio  20:09

player. Did you know that? You know really did that against the NFL player? Right away. You’re

Brandon Williams  20:14

just here to buy NFL players.

Nestor Aparicio  20:17

I’m gonna talk him into playing football with Snoop. They told me after the flight football game Snoop was gonna be having a special relaxation in the green room, they told me I’d be very relaxed. The room was be green. I won’t be I know you won’t be don’t get him and I can’t get you. I’m not taking you there. But I would like to play

Brandon Williams  20:38

No. I’ll be I’ll be

Nestor Aparicio  20:41

I mean you wanna you want to get to the festivities she got parties. Here we got right

Brandon Williams  20:45

now I’m chillin. But I do want to go eat that song thing. I’m

Nestor Aparicio  20:51

pretty excited to get free food here. Free beer bars open I’m

Brandon Williams  20:53

not worried about that. I don’t worry about like food food. Good food. Good food. Yeah,

Nestor Aparicio  20:57

I’ve been to Houston before not only the play. There’s a lot of good places to eat here. So there was gas astronomic There we go. Yeah, James Beard award winners. You get all that going on here.

Brandon Williams  21:07

So there we go. I’m a Yelp it or like Google, or whatever.

Nestor Aparicio  21:12

I mean, don’t get full. I’m not like believing. You know what I mean?

Brandon Williams  21:16

Just look small. Maybe I just don’t know where you put it.

Nestor Aparicio  21:19

You’re big boned. You know what I mean? You know, and then whatever call you like fat. Husky use big bone Pleasantly plump pleasantly.

Luke Jones  21:27

Just the way you said that was perfect. Oh, yeah.

Nestor Aparicio  21:31

You’re a funny MF. Er, that’s all I’m gonna say. Hey, Brandon Williams, cheers. You know, please don’t leave.

Brandon Williams  21:39

You’re not the first person to do that. Please do. Please don’t hug me and just like, please don’t leave.

Nestor Aparicio  21:44

We’ll let you go. Thanks for everything, man. And if you do, I won’t hate you. I’ll still have a love for you.

Brandon Williams  21:50

How’s the wife? By the way?

Nestor Aparicio  21:51

She’s good man. She everybody’s asking about her. She finds that to be fascinating. I’m like, well, you’re all she’s been to the last

Brandon Williams  21:57

because she’s cooler than you.

Nestor Aparicio  21:59

That is true. I mean, there’s no one that I disagree with that. Universally. She

Brandon Williams  22:04

is definitely your better half

Nestor Aparicio  22:07

Correct. Coverage. All right, Australia next week. We’re spending 17 days in Australia and New Zealand. We’ve never been to New Zealand. Okay, so a little side story when you were in my life at this time, my wife got bitten by spider three years ago, next month in Brisbane, Australia. Okay, and that was her cancer. That’s what got made her body sort of a reaction that made her leukemia happened. You know, we thought it was jetlag, we thought, you know, so, over the last three years, she has been very into like going back to Australia, because we had such a great experience. Yeah. And she came from Australia home and then went into bed to live or die. You know, she’s been 155 days now in the hospital. So through all of this, she had said, When I get better, the first thing I want to do is go back to Australia. And Springsteen announced the tour, like in late August night, and I said, You know what, let’s check the flight. The flights were super cheap. I’m like, Look, no pressure, you just a bottle I’m gonna get I’m gonna get the flights. You know what I mean? And let’s get you on a pathway because she couldn’t she could not have done that September, October. Yeah. I mean, she missed some home games this year, because she wasn’t sort of well, no, no, but she’s doing great. They put her on a really good drug prednisone, it’s awful drug but it’s good. She’s getting stronger. You’re the one to ask me on the air. So I haven’t told this story cuz people ask me all the time. So we’ve been ramping up to get her completely healthy so that she can do this. That’s cool. So she’s doing well and I have every reason to believe we’ll be in Brisbane, Australia. Seen Bruce Springsteen on Valentine’s night.

Brandon Williams  23:42

Oh, it’s talking about Mike drop on that one on Valentine’s Day Night?

Nestor Aparicio  23:47

Yeah, yeah. So I hope he plays a lot of tunnel. He’s been very political

Brandon Williams  23:52

stuff definitely.

Nestor Aparicio  24:00

Yeah, did you know my biggest regret if you signed with like some jackass team, like the Chiefs or the Steelers or something awful, is gonna be that we didn’t do more radio. Because you are funny. I like you.

Brandon Williams  24:12

I try. I like you. Appreciate it

Nestor Aparicio  24:15

to charity stuff too. I see you with the box thing and you

Brandon Williams  24:17

do you boys and girls. Yeah, my own Boys and Girls Club I adopted and what?

Nestor Aparicio  24:22

Tell me why that was important to you. Because I grew up going
