A tribute to Heisty and media friendships

We lost the best of us this week. Veteran local media voice Craig Heist left us and left quite an impression on Luke Jones and Nestor at Camden Yards over the years. We pay tribute to his hustle, hard work, Essex humor and unrivaled dedication to local sports – and then honor him by tackling the many bye week issues of the 1-5 Baltimore Ravens.

Loop putting an extra kick into the preseason prep for Ravens

With one more fake football game left, the Baltimore Ravens don’t have a lot of jobs up for grabs or injuries to report so the big foot of Tyler Loop and the large shoes to fill of the former kicker makes every kick a little more jumpy. Luke Jones and Nestor continue the slog through Ravens training camp and look ahead to preparations for Buffalo on September 7th.

Guitarist Mark Bryan invites Nestor and all Hootie and The Blowfish fans to his solo gig at The Atlantis in DC on Friday

He still claims the Orioles and the Washington football team as his “home teams” and guitarist Mark Bryan of Hootie and The Blowfish always plays back in the DMV when he rolls solo. But as he tells Nestor, this time it’s something more special and a cool, bigger band coming to The Atlantis in D.C. on Friday night to play some Hootie songs and a wide array of music and influences that keep him off the golf course and jamming.

Baltimore vs. Washington (again)

Our old WTOP Sports pal Dave Preston discusses the current state of Washington and Baltimore sports. The Orioles struggling with the worst starting pitching in the majors and frigid bats. The Nats have a rough schedule and a disappointing bullpen. And the Capitals are contending, with Alex Ovechkin creating thrills and chasing another goblet.

Cold, hard cash…

The colder it gets; the bigger the prize! These frigid temperatures haven’t been fun to navigate but for some lucky Keno players this month with the Maryland Lottery, the lower the better. Executive Director John Martin talks millions and local winners to start the year and slowing the roll on football season.

Leonard Raskin and Nestor discuss Ravens passion and Washington pride as NFL heats up January in Maryland

Of course we’re on the purple side of the Maryland NFL picket fence but we’ve noticed the signs of life from Landover. Leonard Raskin and Nestor discuss the local Ravens’ passion for football and how all of that enthusiasm skipped the nation’s capital until Jayden Daniels and Dan Quinn hailed up. It’s quite a weekend of state pride football ahead as Baltimore goes to Buffalo and Washington travels to Detroit.

Adding a side of Pees to Ravens defense that made strides against Jaylen and Commanders

In the days before the win over the Commanders, the Ravens brought back a sage and a mentor to defensive coordinator Zach Orr to get more productivity and cohesion on the backend. Luke Jones and Nestor discuss the pieces of the Ravens defense and the addition of Dean Pees to help a beleaguered secondary that held up against Washington.

So just how good can Ravens offense be with Lamar and King Henry royally meshing?

After having its way all day against the less-than-stellar Washington Commanders defense in a 30-23 home win, Luke Jones and Nestor discuss the arrival of King Henry and this royal offense of Lamar Jackson we’re seeing as Todd Monken starts to draw it up and the line starts to gel and block it up. And weapons multiply in the passing attack.
