It has been a rough September for every Baltimore sports fan. The injuries and losses with the Orioles. And the Ravens completely shocking us with a pair of losses to start the season. Leonard Raskin and Nestor try to do some civic therapy and find something upbeat about Baltimore sports during these tough times.

Welcome home. We are W, N, S, T, am 1570 Towson, Baltimore, we are asking you as football winds in even oh and two, and baseball winds out, but hopefully not after, until after a parade, set up space on your dial for us at am 1570 I have done that in my car, I’m even number six on my own car. I don’t need to be number one or number two. I can be number six whatever, whatever it takes to get you here to our intelligent conversations. We call them wise conversations. Big appreciation to wise markets, as well as our friends at the Maryland lottery, where you can, you can buy Maryland lottery ticket to wise markets, as well as where our farms we are doing the Raven scratch offs beginning Friday. We’re going to be at fadelies before the games Tigers come into town. Luke will be joining us. Congressman John Sarbanes going to join us. And then we’re going to be at Costas on the 27th and then at Pizza Johns on the 11th, which I made a bet with Luke, that the Orioles will still be alive on october 11, which is just before my birthday. I am hoping and praying as we all are here. I’ve been eating an oyster a day, every day. Leonard Raskin and I have been in and out of Lutherville, Timonium. I was at Kenilworth this week. I’ve been to Annapolis. I’ve been to Frederick. I haven’t made it to Essex yet, but it’s on my I’m on my way. You know, how are you? How are you holding up with Owen two and this oral implosion? I mean, yeah, this, this has been really dreadful, weird couple weeks, you know,
Leonard Raskin 01:24
we spoke within the last, you know, couple few weeks, as you said, and we had the Ravens not mattering until the playoffs. We had the O’s absolutely in the playoffs, potentially division winners and World Series parade involved. We
Nestor Aparicio 01:46
were arguing whether they should have a buy or not. Remember, four days off or not. We’re not talking about that September. No, we’re not. No.
Leonard Raskin 01:53
So now we got, now we got the oh and two ravens and the Orioles. We know what’s going on there. It’s man. They’re hurt. And, and they’re hurt, I think caught up. Look, you look around the the field, you see the the fielders, and first of all, you say, Who are these people? And, and they’re young and, and the younglings take some some work to get major league ready, and the pitching. You know, I was, I was watching this this past week. And I think, I think, you know, Albert Suarez. You look at the Orioles this year, and I don’t care, look gunner Henderson has had a fabulous season, right? Fabulous season. But if I were to say who was the most valuable Oriole 2024 season, it’s gotta be Albert Suarez, right
Nestor Aparicio 02:47
off the bat. I’m in. I’m
Leonard Raskin 02:49
there. I’m in. Where would this team be without his pitching over the last two, three months? I mean, this guy is pitched phenomenally well, whether it’s out of the bullpen, starting rotation. I mean, one bad game, but every other game he’s given up what one or less I said, to lose,
Nestor Aparicio 03:11
and they can’t get their pitching together because, like, they have to go to the last day because they go beat up on the Yankees. Totally plausible. Man, you know, win one out, right? You know, they’re bullpen implodes, and Yankee said, Well, whatever it is, right? That’s capable of winning 345, games in a row. They really are, even with the lineup. They have Jackson holiday this, and Kobe Mayo that, and they’re too young. And who’s this Rivera guy and who’s a guy, Jimenez and whatever. So if they have to, next week play hard into Minnesota, and go hard in the Minnesota, and they somehow miss out by half of, you know, a hair, and they have to go play on Tuesday and Suarez has to pitch that game, they’ll be like, Okay, I I don’t know that I wear burns or F, I just need a guy on regular rest, ready to pitch a game. Forget playoff game. This that whatever right we manage differently, but not from a pitching standpoint. Get the guy out. You know, pitches, get the guy out. Keep guys off base. You know, field, field, well, field, well, what’s right in contact? That’s right last 90 days. Make
Leonard Raskin 04:20
plays, make plays behind them, but, but it’s gotta be the most valuable Oriole gotta be so. So that said, You got Elaine, you got Suarez, you got burns, and you got Oh Kramer, right with the smush, with the smoosh and and he that’s not bad. And you get one, you get one back of your other starters, maybe, and you’re okay. I think they’re okay, but I don’t know that I’m gung ho, that they’re winning the World Series, but I think they’re gonna go
Nestor Aparicio 04:58
deep like the best team. Them right now, but they look like they’re among the best teams, because they are.
Leonard Raskin 05:05
They got to get hot the next week or so they I mean, look, they got what end games left, whatever it is. They got to get hot. I just think they got to play good ball. That’s gotta play good ball. Gotta play good ball. Take two or three from the Yankees. Win these series, and you got a great shot at whatever’s in front of you. You now go to the playoffs and make it happen, maybe
Nestor Aparicio 05:26
Kansas City in a three game series. Yeah, of course. Okay, there you go. Absolutely. I think they can be Houston Astros in any
Leonard Raskin 05:34
of the teams that they have to face, they could beat in a good series. I think no question. I’m not concerned in regards to that pitching.
Nestor Aparicio 05:44
You know, you talk about other things. Yeah, I’m way more concerned about where Rodriguez’s innings are, where Webb’s innings are, whether they’re cologne innings. Doesn’t look like there’s going to be any at bats from Mount castle. We know there’s no Mateo with bats. There’s no running of him. So a lot of these weapons that they had they don’t have, and that’s right, the Jackson holiday thing. And I brought this up twice, and I don’t need to belabor it with you, Leonard, but the kind of Norby deal that they could have in the here and now, he would have been a better second bait, and not just in Florida. But I think, sure, just like who knew, holiday is like every other 20 year old in the history that’s right. Game. He’s not ready, like That’s right.
Leonard Raskin 06:23
You’re at That’s right. He had
06:24
a phenomenal 1% he
Leonard Raskin 06:26
had a phenomenal run. He had a phenomenal run for a couple weeks. But they know how to other teams know how to pitch, and he’s he’s gotta get some seasoning, and he’ll be there. Just, you gotta give him time. But what’s he hit? 198, 150,
Nestor Aparicio 06:41
I don’t know. You know, not enough. I mean, not enough. That’s how, that’s how I would put it.
Leonard Raskin 06:47
Needs another off season, needs another needs another trading camp needs another, another season of hitting the ball. He’ll get there. But I think it’s like, you
Nestor Aparicio 06:56
know, us 15 walking in American and sports first, by the way. Did you ever read the news America? Can I ask? Because you’re like a young, old timer like me, you’re of the morning, the morning paper? No, that was the that was the the evening, the evening sun and the News America was an evening paper.
Leonard Raskin 07:11
Was an evening paper. Yeah, the sun was the morning evening right? Well, there were
Nestor Aparicio 07:15
two suns. It was a morning sun and evening sun. Evening Sun. I worked at the morning sun for a minute at the end. But
Leonard Raskin 07:21
yeah, the news American was a classic. It was horrible when they went away. It was it left no competition for the sun. I know, you know what’s crazy somebody in this week, so it’s going to be what’s crazy is when somebody says, 40 years ago, and I say, gets like, 1960
Nestor Aparicio 07:38
Well, when I think of like, like, when I got Michael and it’s not and I hear like, beat it. Or I hear like, pick any Michael. J, you’re pretty PYT you know, I hear those songs are 40 years old. When terrible anything of that era. I’m like, I heard a Def Leppard song this one. I’m like, that’s terrible.
Leonard Raskin 07:56
Yeah, it’s terrible. I’m so old. You know,
Nestor Aparicio 08:01
it’s been 41 years for since the World Series, and we’ve been through that as well. So I just want to say this news America thing, it’ll be 40 years this Saturday, the 21st that my first newspaper job, sports first folded, and I’m putting together whomever wants to get on the zoom that worked together 40 years ago to talk about sports reporting, sports writing. What it was like my entree, you know, Keith Mills worked. I mean, I’m just getting, yeah, I went through the list, oh man, with this week. But a lot of people that really made their hay at a guy named Bernie michlis became a legend in St Louis as the lead writer at the at the paper there, through all of those great Cardinals teams, yeah, the greatest show on turf. Dick for me, all of that that that era, 2530 years ago, that begat 40 years ago. So we’re doing that a little bit, and I just wonder, like I’m gazing about these stories, and there’ll be fun storytellers, yeah, sure, sure, who were here putting a newspaper out when the Colts left now, when Orioles won the World Series, because it all happened the same year, like the unbelievable series, unbelievable 83 and then in March of 84 we lost the football team. That was the year that sports first existed. So there really is some perspective of some of these guys that went off to Sacramento or Rochester or Binghamton and Scranton and had their lives a Hartford Connecticut, a friend of mine covered UConn sports for years. So all of these people and SIG and I are a little bit of the remnants left of it. But I wondered how many people really read the news American and remember John Steadman like
Leonard Raskin 09:31
that? Oh, yeah, he was it, right. He was it. John Steadman was what, what you looked for. That’s you had to read that it was. He was the authority. I try
Nestor Aparicio 09:40
to channel him when I do column this on Monday, which leads me to football, because you, for some reason, oh, for some reason, you began this with, like, you didn’t want to talk about, like, Powerball. You don’t want to hear to talk about the football team, or, no, I’m happy talking about the football team offered Oriole tickets on Tuesday night and and I’m not taking them, okay? And. First off, I’ve got a yoga mat, Planet Fitness. I got, like my back is important, right, right, right? That being said, I also have a date with JT the brick to talk some some football in the aftermath of the game. So just sort of my scheduling. But Greg able from able communications. He is the guy, he did the show last month. He is the guy that made the free the birds video of, we’re not going to take it that was on YouTube. So he had 10 tickets in the bleachers at 830 in the morning on Tuesday for the Giants game. And I looked at my oysters, and I looked at my schedule. There’s a guy named Doug Butchie throwing this crab cake festival on Tuesday night that I’m trying to go. So like, I turned down the tickets, not because, dude, I went to Pearl Jam last week. I went to sticks. I’ve been walking around the city. I did my show and fell swing my wife and I went back on Saturday and we did oysters on the square, and then we walked all around to me cheese with Marvin Lewis. He’s given autographs. Hey, Coach, yeah, yeah, yeah, murder, in front of the Marriott while the racers are sleeping upstairs, crazy, like, so, like, I, you know, I’ve been in a city every day, and it’s not about them. I just, I’m not going to the game, but you’re really excited about going to the Oriole game. So give me your that before, because we’ll do football. I I haven’t. I have plenty. Go ahead. Go ahead. Like, you’re going to the baseball game. I am. Are you buying play all like, where are you in that cosmos? No, not, not at the
Leonard Raskin 11:24
moment, not at the moment. No, I haven’t bought any playoff tickets. I’m just, I’m heading down to watch the Giants. I want to see that you strew ski kid we gave away. What did we get for him? I don’t know what we got for him, $1.50 to be named later or something. Anyway,
Nestor Aparicio 11:42
I don’t have my phone to look it up here, so
Leonard Raskin 11:44
I’m It doesn’t it doesn’t matter. Anyway, no, I’m going down with a with a gaggle, a group, a group event that was planned months and months ago to go to the game. So I’m heading down to go to the game, hoping that it doesn’t get rained out, or it doesn’t bore on my head as I’m eating a dog and some nachos. It’s my last game of the season. How many regular season? How many? What’s that? This will be five. This will be five. And I’m dude, I’m Oh, and four.
Nestor Aparicio 12:17
Stay with him.
Leonard Raskin 12:18
They have not won. They have not won for me this year. Zoom with
Nestor Aparicio 12:22
your kid in Ireland or something like, don’t, don’t. They’re,
Leonard Raskin 12:24
I’m Oh for four. And I have tickets for Tuesday to watch the giants, and I’m hopeful that I’ll be one in four when it’s over. By
Nestor Aparicio 12:32
the way, your kid picked a really weird time to run off to Ireland to do this PhD. Doctor, they because baseball games start really late there, right? Like, very late. They’re all midnight, 1am it’s
Leonard Raskin 12:45
five hours ahead, 630s 1130 at night. He’s not catching much of the O’s. That’s
Nestor Aparicio 12:50
what I’m saying. It’s a different lifestyle. So, like, it is, it is
Leonard Raskin 12:53
his Buckeyes. His Buckeyes play Saturday at noon, so he can watch that at five. And the Ravens. I remember the
Nestor Aparicio 13:02
first time I went to California with all my beer buddies. Mark Miller, my lawyer buddy in Essex from Blondell Miller, Scholer, one of my lifers. He and John rafaletes, we went out to California. And we literally were chasing girls on the beach in Manhattan Beach in LA and we got off the beach because the Orioles were playing at four o’clock on TV. There you go, you know. And they were on national TV, right? It was 1989 Sure. Never it was, and they were good, like, I remember, you know what it’s like to chase Oriole games. And I’ll just say this, because we’re going to get to John horrible letter Raskin. My Raskin global thing, I’m going to get my my crab mallet for you for Costas next week and all that. I just, and I mean this, these are the last games of the year at home. Yeah, play a game or two or 15 playoff games, right? We’ll see Right, right? And the other ones are going to get really expensive, because they just are. They’re playoff games, yeah, sure. My love Melanie and Dundalk, who does not, you know, she’s a $12 ticket person. That’s what she can afford. That’s where her life. She loves the Orioles, but just can’t afford playoff tickets, or the expensive games or expensive seats, or anything like that. Yeah, she’s one of those Birdland people that’s just they should, they should love her up, because if they have empty seats, I should put her in it. But, and nonetheless, you know, for me this week, and I kid Luke about this, I’ve been doing this 33 years long. Yeah,
Leonard Raskin 14:19
long time, lot
Nestor Aparicio 14:20
of really Minori baseball, right? Like, a lot of bad days, right? And I think to myself, what are the good days? And the good days are, and I don’t mean this to be mean, Peter’s not here anymore. Let’s start with that. They have a competent General Manager. They have a beautiful stadium that we’ve just given them $600 million to figure out something to deal with. They have a new owner who I’m not really giving him the benefit of the doubt. I’m gonna play nice with you and say that I am, but I’m just over it, right? I’m over being treated like shit. You know this personally, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I’m just done so like all that being said, he does the right thing by the people. He should do the right thing by me, but he should be doing the right thing by everybody, because the place is empty, and this is the part that. Where it’s and I’m not Baltimore positive for 30 seconds in saying, like in major league when the team got this good and had the gunner Henderson’s and the Adley rutschmans. And in a lot of cities, and I’ve been in these cities. I was in St Louis, um, when Tucker hit the kick a couple years ago. Yeah, was there watching the stones because there was no access to the media. Anyway, they were, we were all wearing masks, right? The Detroit game, right? I remember being in a sports bar in downtown St Louis. I’m not kidding you. They lost their football team. The baseball team wasn’t home. They were on the road. They were on the road. Yeah, and that bush complex, Budweiser thing that they have by the stadium, it’s downtown, yeah, there were 1500 people in there, all wearing Cardinals gear to watch the game on television from wherever they were playing. They were playing Atlantic, Houston, right? Wherever. But it was like September 25 sixth, like you look up whenever Tucker at the kick, because I was in the bar watching, yeah, sure, surrounded by a sea of Cardinals fans who weren’t going to the Cardinals game. By the way, the stones were in town that night. So, like, there were 80, you know, 60,000 right? But, but it was all what you’re wearing, you’re red, all like, geek, geek, about a road game that could get them into the playoffs in 2008 they’d already won three World Series. You know what I mean, like, so I’m just saying we’re not at that level in this community right now, and there’s Katie Griggs has, if you read my Decosta letter and you read my deck, let me, I am sharpening the pen for the Orioles, but to me, Leonard, you’re going to the game. And it’s not, I’m not, not going out of spider anger. I’m almost going out of curiosity. I just have, like, another Mojo I’m working my going, but like, part of not going is, if there were 43,000 people down there tonight, and it was the place to be, like, Pearl Jam was last week, sure this were Bruce tonight, I’d be there. The only reason I didn’t go to Bruce was a I wasn’t paying 225 bucks to sit in the room. I would have paid 80 at the end, and that’s what it was to get in. I would right. I was at sticks. But like, I want the Oriole vibe to be that, that magic that I’m used to as a kid. I damn Mr. Rubenstein, I’m willing to be a part of it. I want to help you. Please give me my prispa so I can talk nicely about you, like I’m not doing that, but the price is half empty. I get it 10 bucks to get in. And I wish, I wish, I wish, I wish. And
Leonard Raskin 17:20
they’re fighting, they’re fighting for their playoff man position,
Nestor Aparicio 17:24
or just like, packed and screaming, and we were all feeling better and, and I don’t know that if they were really winning a lot, whether, I mean, if they had a 10 game lead right now, would you be more or less inclined to go to the game that was last year they had a big lead last year? Yeah, I’m just saying the, this is the juice, Leonard,
Leonard Raskin 17:42
they gotta get it. This is time. It’s good. This is exactly right. And so, so we gotta get out there and see what happens, and pack the pack the yard. I hope
Nestor Aparicio 17:54
Greg gives us 10 tickets. I mean, I hope he finds people to go, right, right? You know you’re going. I want you to have a good
Leonard Raskin 18:01
time. I’m hoping they win, and I hope I’m not getting rained on. That’s what I’m hunting for. Is low you know, that’s it. I need a win and no and no rain. I need a win and no rain. What
Nestor Aparicio 18:12
do you got on football? Because I just want to give you the floor on that. Because, Oh, dude, I’m
Leonard Raskin 18:16
sick. I’m sick about it. So, alright, let’s talk things that matter and don’t matter, right? First of all, I don’t know what, what? Again, hardball is always challenging plays. I wouldn’t challenge. I don’t know what they see. I guess. As he said, after the game moves fast, you gotta make the call in a second. But no bad, bad challenges cost you time outs, and unless they’re blatant, you gotta hold those in your pocket. Unless they matter. They’re blatant and they matter, you gotta hold those in your pocket. So, okay, that’s number one, easy. So what? Number two, you cannot lose a 10 point lead in the fourth quarter to the Las Vegas raiders and Gardner Minshew. This is unacceptable football. I don’t know what happened the I know what’s going on with the offensive line. We can talk about that, but the defense just cacked, no pressure on this guy when it mattered. Let’s play back and let him throw 30 yard passes down the field. What the hell is going on there? And then, all right, so we do have two, two horrendous penalty calls from the NFL, these officials. And I’m not a homer. I watch a lot of football, these officials in the NFL. I will say this, as long as I watch the game stink. They are bad. They they call what they think they see, not what they see. And I love the idea. I don’t know if it was hardball that came up with it or who came up with it, but it was not implemented by the League to have a booth official with the option to ring down and say, you blew that. One, no, that it’s just it is so unacceptable that the amount of money involved in this game, the the plays that happen when a guy reaches out and it’s the quarterback in his chest so hard that he knocks him silly. And they call that a face mask, when that hand was nowhere close to that man’s face mask. And then the pass interference in the end zone should be somebody
Nestor Aparicio 20:28
in New York with a button that says you got to stop the game. That’s what I mean. Alright, that’s what I mean. Gotta get the call right.
Leonard Raskin 20:34
That’s what I mean. I mean calls gotta be, gotta be right.
Nestor Aparicio 20:37
I had Chad weaseling last week on who I’d love for you to meet him. He’s a, he’s a rock and roll dude from Hagerstown who represents NFL players. He’s Josh Jacobs agent, right? Okay, well, he lives in Canton. He’s a great dude, man, but, yeah, huge Oriole fan. Huge. He’s the guy you want to go to an Oriole game with, right? Yeah, and have some beers. He’s that guy. So he came down to Cooper’s, did an hour with me, and we were just talking about being an agent of the players, and what levels of expectations are right from coaching and coaches and systems and just all the way through, but the level of confidence that you want to have in all of it is that the $15 million a Year coach is has a system for how to, how to to say it’s good or bad. Here, when I’m sitting eight miles away, locked out by Chad Steve, and I’m watching the game on TV, you’re in the stadium, so you tell me, what did they show on the video boards that when he threw the red flag out, what was he seeing?
Leonard Raskin 21:42
I don’t know, because I saw it as a catch. I saw a catch on that, that play. That was an I saw an amazing catch with two feet down, and I couldn’t believe the throw, and I couldn’t believe the catch. It was, it was
21:55
Adams used
Leonard Raskin 21:56
about Zay, uh, first Adam. Second half. Second half addicts, see,
Nestor Aparicio 22:01
I’m talking about the first half. Okay, first half when the ball hit the ground. Yeah,
Leonard Raskin 22:04
that one was it on television. It was that was hit the ground for some
Nestor Aparicio 22:10
reason in the stadium. And I went through this with Luke, and you can go, I did 20 minutes. Well, here’s the thing, I pissed him off.
Leonard Raskin 22:15
But with regards to that one, go ahead. With regards to that call to me, it was close. You didn’t see whether or not it really hit the ground, and you had timeouts, and you were at the end of the half, and so it was just a timeout. Worst case, it’s a timeout. The bad part is you lose that challenge. But I wasn’t so crazy about that one as the second half one when, if this game comes down to matter, you need those timeouts. And that was an obvious, obvious catch to me, two feet inbounds, and you
Nestor Aparicio 22:49
can go back and watch a TV view of this. And I told Luke too, because Luke is now seeing the game from up in the corner of the end zone, right? Yeah, he’s not seeing the game nearly as well. He’s relying a lot more on the television. I mean, he’ll tell you that just right? He said it out loud. I mean, I see the view that he puts up the other end of the course, the other world, right? I mean, my seat in the stadium, and one of the points I made with Chad Steele was I had the best seat in the stadium. I was in the first row of the end zone at the upper Yeah, over top. I had more of a mezzanine view, but yeah, sure, I saw holes, and I had a huge view of the television, right? What they’re showing John Harbaugh? Yeah, sure. In house, people are showing John Harbaugh. And what I’m telling you is, in those cases, when they review, and I wasn’t even at the game, but I went to 26 years and paid and watched it all receipts and know the interior, internal workings of their organization more than they think I do that what they try to put on the boards is to incite you, yeah, sure. Sort of to make the coach challenge it, not to give the coach the best view.
Leonard Raskin 23:56
Well, doesn’t he have somebody that’s buzzing him down that’s saying, but hang on,
Nestor Aparicio 24:00
Leonard, the best view happened on television. Instantly you could see the ball hit the ground, and the ball hit the ground. They had three replays of it. It doesn’t somebody tell him that throws the red flag. And I’m like, Who’s he in communication with? Right? That’s my point.
Leonard Raskin 24:17
That’s my point. Doesn’t, don’t they have somebody watching that’s telling them. I mean, I know in baseball, they have a little more time, clearly they have more time. But isn’t there somebody watching the game that’s buzzing him that says this one we should replay?
Nestor Aparicio 24:31
In good football gamesmanship, you run up to the line of scrimmage and snap the ball if it’s a 30 yard
Leonard Raskin 24:36
No, no, that’s if you’re the other team. But that was we. That was zay’s play. We had the ball right? We had time. We could’ve we didn’t need to make that call. It was just foolish.
Nestor Aparicio 24:47
I’m saying it was foolish. Terrible one. I’m telling you, Leonard, I’m watching the game
24:53
now. That was a great catch, original, great catch.
Nestor Aparicio 24:56
Look close this. I just thought it was, was. An aerial where it looked like he went up in the air with his tippy toes and may have come off the ground and never dragged the ground. The
25:10
third replay, the second he definitely dragged came
Nestor Aparicio 25:14
flat, and it was very obvious he was in the stadium
Leonard Raskin 25:17
view. The stadium view looked like he caught it. I saw him catch it on the big screen. I as soon as I was like, What a play. What in live action? It was an incredible play. Then
Nestor Aparicio 25:29
we both have different bitches about hardballs challenges in two different ways from two different views, and each time he was wrong, yeah. So,
Leonard Raskin 25:35
so more important than that is the fact that I don’t know. Look, we know the offensive line is the weak spot. We knew that already, but the play calling to me, and I thought, unless they’re giving Lamar so much room to change the plays, and he’s changing out from what they’re calling to me, a lot of the play calling is suspect. The offense is terrible. I know they scored, they got they scored some touchdowns, but when I’m in the stands and I see Lamar under center and Derek Henry in the backfield, and I know they’re going to run the ball and he’s going to get the ball, I know everybody thinks he’s going to get the ball. You can’t stop him. He did have a couple great plays. He looked really good when they gave him the ball
Nestor Aparicio 26:20
to stop when the offensive line isn’t making blocks
Leonard Raskin 26:22
correct. And, my goodness, I’m watching them against Crosby, and I’m thinking to myself, This guy is the best end in the NFL, the best end in the NFL. And I know there’s some great ones. I’m talking about this game. I’m not talking about his whole body of work. He’s really, really good, but did they forget who he was? The play call was snap. Don’t block him. See what happens. I I saw I was trying to keep track. Ness I couldn’t keep track. I counted five plays during the game, literally, when they were assing and he was unblocked. I don’t mean he beat the man. I mean nobody even tried. Now I don’t know if the scheme’s bad and the and they went inside and he came outside. They went outside. He untouched to Lamar. Uh, one play where Lamar was able to fly it like a balloon over him. Got a completion. He knocked it down. He knocked Lamar down. He got the running backs.
27:40
He he wreaked havoc Ridgemont High, wasn’t it?
Leonard Raskin 27:43
Yes, yes, he wreaked they. They destroyed his Trans Am. He wreaked havoc on them.
Nestor Aparicio 27:51
And well, I hope John Harbaugh has an awesome set of
Leonard Raskin 27:54
tools. Would you? Would you not? Would you not have double teamed the man and said he’s not going to get our quarterback hurt. He’s the one we’re going to block. We’ll take our chances with the running back on the interior lineman, but we’re not going to let him kill us. And he killed him. And then last series of the game, not the last series, the next to the last series, when they needed a first down to keep Vegas out and and they went three and out, and he, he sacked Lamar. What a 15 yard sack, and landed on him like goose landed on Ganon. He put him in the he drove him a foot tape and no roughing call. There were there were facemax calls missed against Lamar. There was a horse collar tackle missed against Lamar. There was a late hit out of bounds missed against Lamar, and all I can compare it to is, how does Patrick mahomes Get every call the Chiefs get every call. My wife thinks it’s because of Taylor Swift. She thinks that the league wants Taylor Swift at every game to be seen to bring the women’s ratings up. And she thinks they have it in for everybody against the Chiefs
29:13
because of mahomes anymore, because his wife, you know, right? Well, they, I
Leonard Raskin 29:17
thought they hugged. I thought they hugged and made up. Yeah, I thought they were, they were at the they were figured it out against they were at the US Open tennis tournament together. They game with you. If I weren’t, they hugged it out. No, they hugged it out at the US Open, I think. But who cares anyway, let me say this. The officiating is so bad across the league, not just the Raymonds, not just being a Homer, they they miss so much, and they call things that are Phantom and that had a big impact. But, but look, we shouldn’t be in the position where they matter three and out in the fourth quarter when you need a first down or two and a and a Tucker field goal maybe wins the game. You. Bad news, and then the punt. The poor guy, our punter. I don’t even know his name, Jordan stout. Jordan stout. Okay, so since my boy Sam left, because, you know, he retired, I couldn’t, until you just I couldn’t tell you the punters name, that’s tragic. Don’t even know our
Nestor Aparicio 30:17
punters, Penn State, not Ohio State. There
Leonard Raskin 30:19
you go, we are so so he shank, eponymous is a punt. Okay, so be it. Now the defense has to step up, and they don’t, and it’s over. Everybody in the crowd knew what was coming. It’s terrible. And then to cap it all off, let’s go to the last play of the game. I was watching from my seat. You’re watching from home. Is it just me, or did Lamar really have a chance to score a touchdown? It looked to me like he had two guys to beat that were really wide, and he gonna beat one of them and run to the end zone. Yeah. I mean,
Nestor Aparicio 30:56
in space it, it looked a little bit like a punt return, right?
Leonard Raskin 31:00
You know, like, and the way they were lined up, it looked like, once he beat the first,
Nestor Aparicio 31:04
he gave the ball away. It’s over. It’s over. Yeah, you’re the only my point was, Why? Why did he not keep it? Remember when Trump said he was the only one that could save America? He was the only one that could save right? I would agree, Captain
Leonard Raskin 31:18
Raven. Captain Raven was running the ball, and after he beat the first something right six guys, after he beat the first six guys, you want to see him try. I did not want to see him give up that ball. I thought he could beat the last two defenders. I really did love.
Nestor Aparicio 31:35
I would have loved to die on that how.
Leonard Raskin 31:37
How insane would that have been if he’d have just kept it done, little spinorama, a button, or whatever it is on the on the video game.
Nestor Aparicio 31:45
I don’t know who else was on the field that could have gotten Justice Hill. It was behind. Have they could have used that. Everybody gets it on me. But Lamar threw it toward the sideline and threw it
Leonard Raskin 31:57
to Justice Hill, way over the sidelines, and then he lateraled it forward to alignment.
Nestor Aparicio 32:04
In other words, he didn’t know what to have to do with it. Right.
Leonard Raskin 32:10
Right. Score.
Nestor Aparicio 32:11
Let me score Lamar anyway. The cheap shot Lamar and sideline and I’m listen, I see a different game, watching it at home, yeah, sure. Like watching it at home. I don’t see the game nearly as well, right? Sure, it’s better. And I thought Tiki Barber did a nice job. And, you know, Catalan, it was fine, right? Yeah. But Lamar, and this is, this isn’t me being a prick. This is me being a big brother. This is Coach, sure, Lamar, if you’re running toward the sidelines, and you go play street ball, and you go pull up, you can get your ass kicked, because I went to dinner with Marvin on Saturday night. And I know Marvin long, yeah, and yeah, would say, You, you, you beat the out of him if he’s in bounds.
Leonard Raskin 32:59
He, of course, was he in bounds on that play? I couldn’t see it. It looked like he was out of bounds.
Nestor Aparicio 33:04
Saying is, if he’s running out of bounds and he’s slowing down, that doesn’t mean anything. It’s Lamar Jackson. I have to pursue him, right, if, right? Peyton Manning at 39 No.
Leonard Raskin 33:17
But my point is, was he out of bounds? My only question was, did they hit him out of bounds?
Nestor Aparicio 33:21
Rogers like that at this point, cheap shot. And this isn’t black and white. I’m
Leonard Raskin 33:26
not talking about cheap shot. I’m not talking about cheap shot. Go ahead. Go ahead. If,
Nestor Aparicio 33:33
if you’re pulling up and you’re Lamar, yes, and I’ve watched that play, there was a point where he went a little slow, yeah, you know, lamar’s got a little gamesmanship, a little stick, cut in and go, whatever. And he got the first contact. Was in bounds. Now, was it hard? Bad? It wasn’t dirty. It was to the completion of the play. Is I got it the letter, but I would tell Lamar, dude, when you’re going out of bounds, like and you know you’re going out of bounds, get out. Don’t show them the ball right. Get out of bounds. Do something else. But here’s my question, don’t play games with the referees trying to get 15 yards, because you might not get it. Because
Leonard Raskin 34:16
here’s my question to you, you’re different. Was
34:19
he in bounds? That’s all I’m asking. Enough that it should I was okay with the no call. I really okay.
Leonard Raskin 34:24
So then that’s fine. I saw it that he was out of bounds, and I said
Nestor Aparicio 34:27
to my wife what I just said to you, which is, yeah, no, I get it John, or I’m in the coaching staff, or I’m Marvin overseeing this. I’m like, tell Lamar to get the hell out of bounds. Tell them are when he wants to run, run, but when he’s given himself up, give yourself up, get out, sprint out of bounds. Look like you’re going out of bounds. Don’t look like you’re jogging, because you’re going to get hit. You’re going to get
Leonard Raskin 34:48
no, I get it. If he’s in bounds, he deserves to get hit. And I thought he was out, so I’ll take it that he was in, and it’s okay.
Nestor Aparicio 34:54
Ticky tack enough that I did, yeah,
Leonard Raskin 34:56
yeah. That’s fine. That’s fine, yeah. But they. They, yeah, they just, they had too many chances for the offense to put it away, and the defense, I guess, I’m guessing, okay, I’m out there. Look, I got, I got sun. Okay, I’m out there. I’m sitting in the sun. It’s hot as hell. They’ve played a lot of time. The Raiders had more time of possession, and at the fourth quarter, I don’t know what’s going on, but our defense just fell apart. You cannot let that team get down the field. Penalties are not and score. You just can’t they stepped up, freeing out when they needed it. We gave them a drive, a drive and a drive that they scored three times unanswered in the fourth quarter and won that game, unacceptable football. So we got a new defensive coordinator, not blaming him, but whoever’s doing it and whatever they’re calling and playing ain’t doing it. Don’t want to think the rookie corner is the reason, because you know that that they they’ve just beat him up all over the field in the fourth quarter to to score 13 unanswered points down by 10 and win that game is wholly unacceptable against ravens defense. I
Nestor Aparicio 36:17
want to say one more thing on Lamar, because I haven’t said anything about it this week. Yeah, more, because I want to finish, really, finish my thought on this, yeah, I said to my wife, because we kept talking about it during the commercial, right, like, was it a flag or not, and whether, and, you know, and they’re talking to whoever was Ferreira, whoever, whoever, yeah, is they? Yeah, right on right. And we were all talking about it, and I, this is where I was. It feels like Lamar was trying to bait a flag, like, slow down a little bit. He’ll take a pop at me. I’ll get 15 coach. No, dude, we don’t want you getting popped. I that, right? No, I
Leonard Raskin 36:51
get it. I get it. I would
Nestor Aparicio 36:53
coach it. It felt to me a little bit like he wanted it to look to you, like it was so with to the referee like it was late. And I’m telling you, he’s not going to get the benefit of the doubt on that. No, the way Tom Brady did, and it’s not as race. It’s No, it’s
Leonard Raskin 37:09
because how he plays. It’s because of how he plays. Yeah, you’re a runner, you’re a runner. But I again, I thought he was out, you thought he was in. So as long as it was close enough. It
Nestor Aparicio 37:21
was an egregious call. And I do think he was trying to get a flag, which is smart, smart, smart, till he gets hit, right? And I’m gonna get hit that
Leonard Raskin 37:30
absolutely series
Nestor Aparicio 37:32
Raskin global. He gives me a really cool crab mallets. I’m gonna be using this at Costas. I’m in fadelies on Friday. I’m at Costas next Friday. We’re all brought to you by the Maryland lab. Friends at Liberty. Pure solutions have me out eating these oysters. I’m gonna talk to Leonard about that in a minute. Raskin global empowers you to choose your financial future. It’s the American dream. He handles money. We talked a lot of baseball, a lot of football and all that. But oysters, I’m finding way. I had I went to the gourmet at Kenilworth. Now they they have the original Catonsville, which was one of molars favorite places over Frederick road, and they do oysters there. It’s oyster stuff, and it’s very seafoody. It’s right in the kennel. It’s beautiful. And I went there. They did an oyster sushi roll. They did an oyster crab thing with a spicy mayo. That was an 11 and a half. It was one of the best sushi Wow, my life, and that I never would have ordered. It was a fried oyster with crab on us, on a sushi roll. And it was, I was watching the Eagles pregame. So I’m telling you, I am eating these oysters. Man, you’re missing out. You got to come out and have
Leonard Raskin 38:39
an oyster. You are you are doing it? The palette is expanding.
Nestor Aparicio 38:44
Delicious. It’s been delicious. It really awesome. That’s awesome. Local oyster I had, which was French toast with an oyster fritter and a poached egg. Incredible. Wow. The best thing I’ve had on the tour so far. You ready? I’m going to give you this. Yeah, sure. You ever get to Annapolis? Yeah, of course, here is a free plug for a place I don’t know who owns it. I don’t care, right? Federal House, okay. House, okay. It’s right down in the square Yeah. Brought me this oyster that was as big as my head. Fresh oyster, just a raw oyster, but it had ceviche on it, which was this delicious, tomato, onion, cilantro, yeah, and it had a crab claw, blue crab claw, picked like, you know, not big one, but they served this thing to me, and I needed a fork. I mean, it was like a platter they gave me. They six, I’m for 20 bucks, and my wife isn’t real fishy and seafoody. She’s coming around such a transplant. We both took one bite of it, and we’re like, my god, this tour was a good idea because we never would have tried anything, right, right? It would have been so far down our we would have gotten 100 other things off the menu before we did that, we had the chicken tender, but. I’m telling you, we are discovering oysters, and it’s
Leonard Raskin 40:03
awesome. There you go. There you go. Outstanding. You
Nestor Aparicio 40:06
got any money stuff? Are you okay? You just don’t felt that on the Ravens this week is your only
Leonard Raskin 40:11
if you took, what do they call survivor pulls. Oh, you know where you got to pick a game a week. And if you’re out, when the week started, right, I say, you’re out, you’re out. I think this past weekend, 10 or 11 road teams, one in the NFL, that’s kind of crazy, right up to Monday Night Football with the Eagles going down to Falcons to Kirk Cousins. Do you like that? You like that? Right on a drive that was, again, defensive implosion, but they’re not going to be as kind in Philly as we are in Baltimore. Three o’clock in the morning. Oh, my Lord,
Nestor Aparicio 40:58
ROFO coffee on Tuesday morning, and on my timeline, the Manning cast showed up of the last minute, 43
Leonard Raskin 41:05
so funny, so funny. Manning cast of Peyton Manning’s mind. Oh, he’s unreal. Give
Nestor Aparicio 41:12
the ball. Don’t let the ball there. Get the ball to the umpire. Give the ball to the umpire, right? You’re unreal inside. Watching him like you could, you would never.
Leonard Raskin 41:20
Do you watch that the first half they have don’t watch it. So the first half now, you know they used to have four guests, okay, okay, not anymore. First half is Peyton, Eli Bill Belichick, only they better not be Kelsey. After they are diagramming plays, they are talking strategy. It is inside football, if you want to learn football. It is unbelievable, by
Nestor Aparicio 41:48
the way. The really weird part about it is none of them ever work together. It’s stunning, stunning. And they worked against their minds, their minds and
Leonard Raskin 41:59
their you know what’s really bizarre. They’re man dude. They’re like, You okay, steel trap. Memory of their past. They are talking about the game and when it’s happening. Watch the film 100 times, no, but I’m saying it went right. But when it’s happening, they are relating to plays that they called 25 years ago, 20 years ago, whatever it was, it is phenomenal. I
Nestor Aparicio 42:23
can’t really I called that play one time against the lions. We tricked them. We won. Yo, he’s, no,
Leonard Raskin 42:29
he is. He is really out there. He’s better than Tom Brady at this is what you’re saying. He different, different. No, He’s different. He’s totally analytical,
42:39
like Palmer and Weaver Conway, right? Don’t
Leonard Raskin 42:43
go away, but, but this is, this is must watch football broadcast. I mean, Troy and and what’s a Joe? Joe Buck, yep, I won’t waste five minutes, but watching the Manning cast with Belichick and them talking football and plays, and
Nestor Aparicio 42:59
at the end of the game, you’re giving me this tip because, like, nobody said, yeah,
Leonard Raskin 43:03
oh yeah, at the end of the game, when, when they threw that ball to to bark saquon, and when they threw that ball to him on third down, or whatever it was, fourth down, whatever the hell it was, run the ball, that that shows you how valuable 40 seconds are. Falcons had no timeouts, right? You run the ball, you don’t make it. 40 seconds comes off that clock. I mean, my goodness, what are they doing that are made into throwing the ball. I don’t care if he catches it win. You know, catches it and you win. Great. The what? What did they say? You know? What did we ever always say? There’s, there’s, like, four things that can happen. Three of them are bad. I don’t remember what it actually is, but something, you know, the the answer is, why would you do that? You know, you got 40 seconds off the clock, plus the running time, and you’ve been running all over them. No, I’m gonna pass out in the flat and hope he catches it, turns it into a touchdown and win the game. It’s just dumb. He misses everything that could go bad, went bad
Nestor Aparicio 44:10
anyway, God for that. I don’t like the Eagles. Leonard, there
Leonard Raskin 44:13
you go. He’s here. He’s
Nestor Aparicio 44:14
rascal global. I have the crab mallet with the beer bottle opener. I will have with me on the road at fadelies on Friday, we’re gonna have some oysters, and then I’m holding my oyster. I haven’t had an oyster Rockefeller yet. I’ve had a lot of opportunities. Had opportunities for interesting oysters with onions and bacon and different things. Haven’t done it all yet. Just a little bit of this and a little bit of that. I’m not sick of time to go, and I’m half weeks to go. Your solutions, as well as our friends at Jiffy Lube, Liberty piers, one 800 clean water. Very easy to remember that. You see their trucks moved around Baltimore County. They take care of well water. And Leonard just you see that they keep my water clean and fresher. I am an orange color. I have my orange colored goggles on right now because
Leonard Raskin 44:57
here’s open. Yeah. Let’s go. Owes, let’s
Nestor Aparicio 45:00
go. Owes an octave. So you’re saying there’s a chance. Is all on? Amen. Let’s go. Raskin. He is Raskin globe. We can find him a rascal. Global. Com, you can find me out at Baltimore positive. You can find Luke somewhere between Owings Mills and Camden Yards and Camden Yards and Owings Mills and out at Baltimore positive.com. Stay with us. You.
