It was all ours in East Baltimore for decades before Guy Fieri and the food culture of America discovered this little pit beef shack secret in Armistead Gardens. The operation has moved a few hundred feet in recent years and looks – and tastes – better than ever. You knew this was high on this list. It was only a matter of where…and how, so let us show you.

Nestor Aparicio reminisces about 12 Chap’s Pit Beef, an institution he has frequented since childhood, originally known as the Gold Club. He recalls the venue’s history as a popular nightspot and his personal experiences there. Aparicio orders his pit beef medium rare, emphasizing the use of the house barbecue sauce and the horseradish sauce, formerly known as the tiger sauce, due to a lawsuit. He advises against using other sauces like Gold or Hickory, suggesting his preferred method is the best way to enjoy the dish.

I’m not gonna lie. This place is an institution. Also not gonna lie and say that I didn’t need a lot of pit beef in this joint. And I’m also gonna say that I haven’t not been to this place, but the original Gold Club was originally the chaps bar that was actually in the 70s, voted one of the best night spots by Playboy, but also a place we went as young people chaps to get ginger ales and Shirley Temples on Sunday nights at five o’clock and dance the Michael Jackson song. So now put to even better use as the land of chap. So Donna and Bobby always have done a great job here. I’ve grown up here. I grew up a mile and a half away. I’ve been eating chaps, pig beef my whole life. Not a shocker. This is on the list, but gives me a chance to go in and show you how I like it done. So Bobby Bobby’s on the line, and I just talked to him, and I told him was really it’s only one way we do it. I do house barbecue and then I do the horseradish sauce, previously known as the tiger sauce, but he can’t call it that anymore because of some lawsuit. Anyway, horseradish sauce, house barbecue sauce. I’m not telling you to ignore the gold or the hickory or the sweet baby rays. Don’t put them, don’t you don’t need any of that, just that, which is formerly the tiger sauce. And the house you’re all set up. I order my medium rare. There’s your barbecue that’s house, and there’s the former T, I, G, E R sauce that’s now just simply the horseradish sauce will this little of that easy
