The June reset for Orioles begins at Fenway

We’ve seen better baseball from the Baltimore Orioles over the past two weeks and after a 7-3 homestand with some walkoffs and walkovers, Luke Jones and Nestor give the Birds a June “reset” as they head to Fenway Park and then to Skydome in Toronto to tackle more of the AL East, where they hope to make up ground as a sub .500 squad thus far.

Staring up at the Tampa Bay Rays was never the plan for Orioles

It was great to sweep the Tampa Bay Rays earlier this week but as our resident Baltimorean trapped in Florida and old sportswriter Joel Poiley will tell you, it’s still mostly a mess for the first-place franchise that also has new ownership but an old and successful way of producing a competitive baseball franchise.

Trying to fly with Blue Jays tough for Birds right now

Watching the emergence of the Toronto Blue Jays and a World Series appearance last season was part of the offseason inspiration of the Baltimore Orioles to improve this year. As Luke Jones and Nestor discuss this four-game set with Toronto and the early struggles of the Birds, it’s getting harder to find any consistency in what we’re seeing at Camden Yards so far.

Luke Jones and Nestor discuss Orioles warming up against Rays and Baz emergence in rotation

It’s only been a few days but the Baltimore Orioles are finally winning some games and getting some decent starting pitching. Luke Jones and Nestor also discuss the warming of (some of) the Birds bats and feeling some “magic” as the first two against the sloppy Tampa Bay Rays have gone in the direction of the men of Craig Albernaz and the Colton Cowser walkoffs have risen the orange spirits. Better pitching, better results…

Mooing, walking off and wondering aloud about Orioles “prospects” turning the corner in Birdland

There’s been plenty of excitement in Birdland with a pair of walkoff homers by Colton Cowser leading the Memorial Day way in extra innings. But as Luke Jones and Nestor moo about a few wins, the Baltimore Orioles still sit far below .500 and have lots of ground to make up with the Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays parked at Camden Yards this week.

#ColumnNes I’ve seen enough: It’s time to fire Mike Elias

I know, I know. The MLB Draft is coming. It’s midseason. There are big deadline deals that will need to be made in July. Blah, blah, blah. Plenty of reasons to just let Mike Elias stay warm in his rented seat and not rock the franchise boat on Memorial Day. But I’ve seen enough to know he’s not going to survive – and shouldn’t – so I would make the move now and adjust.

As the Orioles circle the drain (again), we wonder when Elias will be fired

The losing is unacceptable to the fan base and should be unacceptable to Baltimore Orioles “new” ownership. Luke Jones and Nestor once again discuss a last-place Birdland season on the brink in May as the Orioles return home in the rain after getting swept (again) on the road at the top of the AL East. The alarms should be a lot louder than they are for this wayward, doormat franchise.

Luke Jones and Nestor discuss two outta three over the Yankees for Orioles and Bradish back to shoving the ball

If the version of Kyle Bradish that re-emerged at Camden Yards against the New York Yankees on Wednesday is suddenly reappearing and the bat of Adley Rutschman has returned, then the Baltimore Orioles already have their first building blocks back to thinking about contending this summer in the American League pennant race. Luke Jones and Nestor discuss two outta three over the pinstripers for the Birds and Bradish back to shoving the ball every fifth day.

When the starting pitching gives you no chance to win

It’s been a struggle to get quality starts for the Baltimore Orioles rotation so far and we’re wondering what has to happen to change the fortunes of the club at the quarter pole. Luke Jones and Nestor discuss the Birds rotation and pitching malaise that has led to early season struggles in the AL East.

Luke Jones and Nestor discuss the mountain ahead for Orioles with Yankees in town

Of the importance of Shane Baz and Pete Alonso (and memories of Glenn Davis and Chris Davis)

Allen McCallum and Nestor discuss the Orioles spring one month into disappointing start to season

For those of us who thought the Baltimore Orioles could win 92 games this season based on emerging talent and the offseason “open for business” spend by new ownership and VP of Baseball Operations Mike Elias, we are suddenly doing a lot of revisionist history about the pitching, hitting and defense. Allen McCallum joins Nestor to discuss the realities of the first month of a disappointing start to a season that held a lot of hope in Sarasota for rookie skipper Craig Albernaz and what felt like more talent over the winter.

Hitting the orange light on Orioles scuffling season

We haven’t seen much that we’ve liked over the first month of the season but the Boston Red Sox weekend theft of a pair of games at Camden Yards has alarmed Luke Jones, who joins Nestor to discuss the Birds bottoming out against a distressed division rival and staring down the New York Yankees this weekend in The Bronx.

Luke Jones and Nestor discuss rotation and Orioles scraping by on any win possible in KC

Is there an “ace” in the starting rotation deck for the Baltimore Orioles? Sure, we all believed that Trevor Rogers and Kyle Bradish would make it look easy and that Shane Baz would pitch to his contract and Chris Bassitt would stabilize the staff and Zach Eflin…and then the season began. Luke Jones and Nestor discuss the Birds’ pitching depth and scraping by on any win possible in Kansas City.
