No. 3 TastyNes and 27th Anniversary Tour: Amicci’s Meatballs and Garlic Cheese Bread (aka “The SloppyNes”)

Everyone who has ever met Nestor knows that Amicci’s in Little Italy is his favorite restaurant on earth. And everyone knows about the world famous Pane Rotundo. But it’s time to share his favorite personal pairing – the meatball and ricotta marinara appetizer sliced and assembled across bubbling, toasty garlic cheese bread and served open faced. (This isn’t a real menu item. But if it was they’d call it “The SloppyNes” because this ain’t your father’s Sloppy Joe and it’s certainly no ordinary “meatball sub.”) Get a fork and a bib!

The sign on the door says: ONLY NICE PEOPLE ALLOWED! And somehow Marcella Knight and the awesome folks at Koco’s Pub were still nice enough to allow us to celebrate their 40th Anniversary that required some #TastyNes Koconut Shrimp along on the Maryland Crab Cake Tour from the heart of Lauraville with tales of our favorite things to eat in Baltimore along with our favorite Ko-Host, sports cartoonist Ricig.

No. 19 on #TastyNes Tour and WNST Baltimore 27th Anniversary Countdown: Fuji San Drunken Noodles

The website at Fuji San says: “Best drunken noodles and pad thai in Maryland” and we’re not here to argue that as a gastronomic fact. If you love Thai food, make a stop on York Road in Cockeysville and see why we rarely go anywhere else when we’re craving a passage to Bangkok.

R.I.P. Mister Costas Triantafilos – the loss of a legendary man in Dundalk

Costas Triantafilos was a giant of a man in my community because his presence was omnipresent. His authenticity, beauty and kindness, displayed over a lifetime, leave no words here that will ever convey. Not many folks know a community like Dundalk, a place like Costas Inn or a man like the man whose life and business was profiled by Vice just 15 months ago, capturing his absolute essence brilliantly.

The 22nd day of the Maryland Crab Cake Tour presented by The Maryland Lottery, Goodwill, Window Nation and the Restaurant Association of Maryland found us rocking toward The Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia but en route we got thirsty at Hysteria in Columbia and made a road stop at Casey’s Crab in Laurel where the owner insisted we go with the Crabmeat Cheesesteak. We’re glad we did!
