As the new Costas Inn North is set to open this month at the Timonium Race Course Grandstand, we offer a birthday tribute to Mister Costas with Nick Triantafilos and Chuck Jacobs joining Nestor on the Maryland Crab Cake Tour to story tell about his recent passing and legacy of kindness and generosity you can feel inside the walls of the legendary Dundalk location.
It’s not every day that you find a two-time Grammy Award winning percussionist and Maryland native who went to Towson State. So, when Nestor found out about the incredible story of studio drummer and new age devotee M.B. Gordy, he found a different beat and a new world of information about The Academy and life in California making the modern sounds of success in film and more.
When we bring “A Cup Of Soup Or Bowl Week” on the road every February, these are exactly the kinds of stories we seek to tell so you’ll get involved. Meet Robin Emrick, who tells Nestor the incredible story of Ann’s Toy Closet in Essex and holiday joy for children and struggling parents in East Baltimore County.
More than 40 years ago, Trish Woodward and Nestor Aparicio performed in a childhood version of “Oliver” at Colgate Elementary. She returns to “A Cup Of Soup Or Bowl” at Costas Inn to update us on the incredible work of her Camp Opportunity, which provides a summer experience for abused children to see nature and find care and make friends.
Nothing says true Baltimore love on Valentine’s Day like crab cakes. Let our beloved proprietor Marcella Knight and Ko-host the show and tell you about what she loves about making people when they come to her legendary little pub in Lauraville. And how ordering ahead and grabbing them to go on the side door has become a boon to her business and makes folks all over town aware of the Mayor’s favorite crab cake.

The legend of Patrick “Scunny” McCusker, founder of Nacho Mama’s and Baltimore bon vivant, continues to grow posthumously in Owings Mills as his son Finn McCusker hosts Nestor at Mama’s On The Half Shell to tell tales about Scunny and seafood on the Maryland Crab Cake Tour brought to you by the Maryland Lottery and Jiffy Lube Multicare.
When the Maryland Crab Cake Tour and the Maryland Oyster Tour intersect, we win. Finn McCusker continues a suburban seafood visit with Nestor, sharing more history of the Nacho Mama’s lineage and tales of his infamous father in Canton.
Rock And Roll Hall of Famer Gina Schock of The Go-Go’s tells Nestor the girls are head over heels about putting the band back on stage in 2025 as she prepares in Dundalk for a spring at Coachella and Cruel World Festivals that’ll show they’ve still got the beat. Our lips are no longer sealed about the West Coast reunion of the five ladies who paved the way in the early 1980s.

As an East Baltimore lifer, Nestor Aparicio loves going to his favorite places owned by old friends. On Day 18, once he heard the Highlandtown aioli was elevated he knew he’d be seeking out his old Berkshire chum Brian Eder for some fried oysters at The Chasseur, high on the Highland Street hill at Foster.
We’ve done the Maryland Crab Cake Tour from Nick’s Grandstand Grill atop the grandstand of the Timonium race course and the attached OTB a few times. So, naturally we’re back looking for Tommy! A great spot to get six on the half!
Nestor did a Rock N Jock Baseball Preview in the 1990s and his music pals called in to talk sports. Geddy Lee checked in from Toronto to discuss the 1997 Orioles and Blue Jays.
Jump into the history of Van Halen with author and historian Greg Renoff, who once again joins Nestor to discuss the new Alex Van Halen book “Brothers” on his life with Eddie and the sensation of the “5150” residue on last summer’s Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony tour and bringing the best of both worlds back to Las Vegas for a residency next spring.
In the spirit of mixing it up every day on 26 in 26 days to celebrate 26 years of WNST and Baltimore Positive, the lucky thirteen day was spent with our pal John Allen of Stone Horses (and Child’s Play) rock and roll fame and “The Bull” with a two-part oyster shooter at The Walrus in Columbia. It was no bull.
There’s no place like home for the holidays and no one more makes us feel more warm and welcome during December than our incredible sponsors, friends, supporters and local businesses that power us up all year-round. The Maryland Crab Cake Tour is back on the road for the egg nog, conversations, conviviality and fellowship over some seasonal treats and shipping the best of Baltimore anywhere you – or loved ones – will be this holiday season.
When the Maryland Oyster Tour was conceived the only place Nestor Aparicio knew he was going to hit was this venerable establishment with the sign on York Road just outside of the beltway in Towson. The sign always says: “Award Winning Oyster Stew.” And a roll with it, baby…

In February 1991, Hall and Oates were transitioning from large arena tours to an acoustic tour, which was gaining popularity due to the emergence of MTV Unplugged. Daryl Hall discussed the challenges and creative freedom of performing acoustically, noting the use of acoustic instruments and a theatrical stage setup.
When Billy Joel had to cancel a concert at the Capital Centre due to illness, he gave Nestor a call to apologize and talk about life and music.
Thirty years later, it seems almost inconceivable that Bruce Springsteen once was departed from E Street for over a decade. The Big Man joined Nestor during his days as an #AlmostFamous music critic at The Evening Sun in Baltimore to talk about solo life on the road.
Family friend (and once little girl playing the piano and banging the drums) Shelbie Rassler is conducting the Spiderman Across the Spider-Verse orchestra as the show comes to The Lyric on November 15th. Wait’ll you hear her Burt Bacharach story about the world needing love, sweet love…

As many of our longtime listeners know, our dear friend and longtime executive producer Ray Bachman is battling cancer. On the eve of his battle, on Day 6 Maryland Oyster Tour, we took in an evening of his legendary Anne Arundel County Trivia Night and ate some oysters at legendary Mike’s in Riva.
We can’t say that we’ve ever had an oyster fritter. And certainly never on savory french toast covered with a perfectly poached egg glazed in scrumptious velvety Hollandaise. Day 4 of The Maryland Oyster Tour took Nestor to Hampden and the absolutely divine oyster fritter and eggs Benedict at The Urban Oyster on The Avenue for Sunday brunch. This might’ve been the best thing we tasted on the tour!
When is the last time you ordered oyster stew – or even found it on a menu? It’s that time of the year. On Day 5 of the Maryland Oyster Tour, Nestor got happy during a Happy Hour at Ryleigh’s Oyster in Timonium. Creamy. Buttery. Delicious. Especially with those little oyster crackers!
Yes, they’ll put pineapple on it for you at Pizza John’s but traditions – new and old – are still waiting for you on Back River Neck Road in Essex. Brett Steall of Pizza John’s and Leonard Raskin join Nestor on the Maryland Crab Cake Tour to discuss this venerable and established-in-1966, family-owned treasure known for its consistent pizza quality and local community ties. Oh, and that memorable pepperoni…

Silver Spring native and lifer musician Nils Lofgren joins Nestor for a candid conversation about his latest work, “Mountains,” released in the middle of a worldwide tour with Bruce Springsteen and E Street Band that comes to Oriole Park at Camden Yards this Friday.
With new ownership for the Baltimore Orioles and Washington Commanders arriving over the past year in the DMV, venerable sports author and longtime Washington Post columnist John Feinstein joins Nestor to discuss the promises made (and broken) by the men who own our local sports franchises.

Sure, they’ll always be known as a South Carolina band, but Hootie and The Blowfish guitarist Mark Bryan is always quick to point out his Maryland roots for home and sports. He catches up on Orioles Magic, thirty years of friendship with Nestor and the not-so-cracked rear view of a life in making music that is currently making fans happy on the road with all the hits.
As the Maryland Crab Cake Tour always seeks to introduce mutual old friends of ours and network to make new friends, this time its our favorite family chiropractor and philosopher Steve Elliott joining longtime WBAL broadcaster John Patti and Nestor to discuss Smalltimore, rubgy and how we view and discuss local sports and news at Pappas in Parkville.
The original Fishmonger’s Daughter Damye Hahn gives Leonard Raskin and Nestor a jumbo lump crab meat education at Faidley’s Seafood in Lexington Market on the Maryland Crab Cake Tour. You can see – and taste – the difference!
