On the bubble and on the verge of not qualifying for the NCAA Tournament just two years after winning the National Chapionship, this was the finest hour for the Terps in their four-decade rivalry with the hated Duke Blue Devils. In the ACC Championship Game, John Gilchrist stepped with 26 points up to help the Terps to their first tournament victory in 20 years with a 95-87 overtime win over Duke. And of course, the little boy in the Duke gear would become an all-time, iconic image for every student in College Park.
