Nestor J. Aparicio  00:00

Welcome back wn st Towson, Baltimore and Baltimore positive we’re positively at wise markets number 181 80 which is honey go there’s no real honey go but it’s a real place up here. You know, I lived in White Marsh for 15 years and the road just stopped at the end of Perry all high school was like a dead end for like 25 years and just as I was leaving Whitemarsh going out of town 20 years ago, they opened it up, put this big field up here laboratories and Cosmo and all those guys all moldy sigh guys doing stuff so we’re up here wise market some how long is this store been here? almost 20 years?

8

Derek Frazier  00:34

Close. I think it’s been 19 years it’s been around. But this is

Nestor J. Aparicio  00:38

an original. This was the cornerstone part of this development. Yes. We’re celebrating holidays up here. They have made me and they can do this for you as well. These things this is a Dundalk thing. Derek Fraser Fraser series a store manager John segways. Here he’s from Vegas. He doesn’t know much but he knows the Oilers. We’ll get to that. Did you ever have crabcake in LA Do you know what a crab cake was? Or Las Vegas crab

Jon Sidway  01:02

cakes but not Maryland crab and we had the ones that were like breaded on the outside so it gets you see it’s not it’s not a Maryland crab cake. You didn’t have it until you came here.

Nestor J. Aparicio  01:10

8

You never get a crab cake outside you’ve traveled the world right? Yes

Derek Frazier  01:13

we’ll travel you don’t you don’t get the same quality that you get here in Maryland at all. And

Nestor J. Aparicio  01:19

I asked you to do this because the store over Joppa which is store number 123 23 They do these stuffed shrimp with the crab cake and when they did it your your your manager came out and recognized me to store and said hey, I want you to try these things you do the crab cake tours are really good. And I looked at it and I thought well looks pretty good. I mean look at it looks pretty good. I said give me three. So you gave me three almoner like a buck and a half a piece was four bucks. Made my wife wait we checked out my wife does not eat shrimp ruin she does not like shrimp at all. She likes crab cakes now. She had a transplant 10 years ago she’s a different human. She didn’t like crabs before now she likes him she she’s got different DNA. Literally different person got different taste buds, different allergies different every everything is changed. She now eats crab cake and loves it good. Although I do bring too many home she’s like you bring it another crab Gago she’s getting sick. And that’s gertrudes it’s bad. So every time she’s like, alright, I’ll eat it. She starts to eat it and I get 40% She gets 60 she take these and eat them like popcorn shrimp, right? They’re gonna little crab balls. But this is me. This is a perfect Christmas tray. It is this makes me feel like home. My mother would love these little guys here. But the stuffed shrimp. I mean, it’s such a Baltimore thing and you guys do it and you do it in your delis and it’s beautiful. Yes. Can I eat one? You can have one? Why not? How good the I mean I don’t need to like be raising the why signature crab cake is delicious. I don’t think there’s any doubt about that. You got that right with Dundalk love. So this is where my mom would do it. This is old school. Sort of like I would pan fry that like a hockey puck. But not when you got crab bowls. But yeah, so a lot of crab meat your Christmas time, right? Yeah,

Derek Frazier  03:06

yes, that’s the time that New Year’s is the Super Bowl of seafood. Besides the Super Bowl weekend, when it’s actually the Super Bowl is the biggest largest seafood time of the year, at wise markets or any, you know, in this business. You know, you’re here. But

8

Jon Sidway  03:23

we sell your steamed shrimp, you gotta come here and get it for New Year’s. It’s the biggest time of the year for us.

Nestor J. Aparicio  03:28

Why is rewards programs and people? Look, I’ve seen some old people in here don’t know their apps. You know? I’m one of those guys don’t know the password. Redeeming points, having you help. Let’s say you’re an idiot, maybe like the host. And you forgot your password. Like for real? Like, I have my app. I literally don’t know how many points I have. Alright. And I don’t have my password. What do we have to do? Because I’m sure you’re getting this all this week is everybody. They don’t know much. But if they’re using their rewards, they kind of want a hammer Turkey does,

Derek Frazier  04:05

right? So your awards are attached to your phone number. Whatever phone number you give when you get remember it right? Well, it’s attached to your cell phone or your house phone, just in case you don’t have your card and you want to know what your you know, reward points are you going to the customer service, we have people behind there that can pull right up by your phone number and tell you how many points you have at that time. Say you don’t have your rewards card with you. When you go through to self self scan or the self checkout or even a cashier they can pull it up right there at the register for you to at the same time. It will ask you if you would like to use your reward points at this time for your ham or for your salmon or for other rewards that we’re doing. You know at this time. I’m trying

Nestor J. Aparicio  04:46

8

to see if I can remember my my password or not. Let me see. I bet maybe that’s it. And you

Jon Sidway  04:59

guys You’re one of them people we were talking about, you gotta go to customer service and get it. I

Nestor J. Aparicio  05:04

better hurry. I only got a couple of days to get to hand. My wife’s out of town. So I’m in charge of all Christmas shopping, right? So I pick her up in the airport Christmas day every year because she spends Christmas Eve with her family. I’m here with the cat. I keep an eye on things and then I make dinner. So we got ham, mashed potatoes, kielbasa sauerkraut, green bean casserole. I like me some Mitchell’s corn because that’s the way I roll. I need some dinner rolls, but more than that. Eggnog. So this is Turkey Hill eggnog. But this is really the wise eggnog and I learned a little bit about this because I did the tour. Have you ever done Sunbury tour? I

Derek Frazier  05:41

did did a tour back in 2017. I didn’t when I moved up in management here. It was much you ever

8

Nestor J. Aparicio  05:47

do the tour? I have not yet. Well, what happened? And Jamie explained this to me during the plague. They couldn’t let anybody in. Right. So you guys have been sponsoring me for like, four years or whatever, and I couldn’t do it. And then finally, there was a break in the plague action last summer about a year and a half ago, and I was in the middle of the crab cake tour. And I took one of my crab cake days and I went up to Sunbury, it’s lovely, I mean, just a lovely little place. It’s a great drive. Here Harrisburg above Harrisburg, that waterway above Harrisburg to the north. It’s just beautiful in areas you’d ever want to drive an hour or two from Baltimore. So when I did the tour of all of it, and I didn’t realize that they were giving me like I was VIP I thought I was just a dude with Dundalk. They’re gonna give me some ice cream. It’ll be no, no, no, no, they completely did me up right treating me like like gold. So I got taken to the entire dairy tour. Alright, so when I went into the milk plant into the dairy plant there, I mean, you could see how massive it is and how much milk is coming through there. How many cows it’s taking to make this stuff. And I love the guy that gave me the tour was very professional. And they’re, you know, PR teams. Everybody’s trying to treat me the right way. And I said, so where’s the eggnog made? He’s like, this is a problem. And he said it’s clean up issues that this the viscosity of eggnog and the viscosity of all of it creates like a plant that is either a milk plant or something else. Same thing would be true for ice cream. Right? Eggnog. As it turns out. It’s very, very hard to make in a factory. Literally, it’s thick, it’s hard on clean up, and you only really want to run it once or twice even though I want to start drinking in October and still have an April right but they take it away like a government conspiracy,

Derek Frazier  07:35

but that’s why it’s only that short period of time. Make sure you keep buying it and keep getting it throughout the year come January first you probably won’t see any in any of the stores because everybody’s gonna buy him up the next two weeks.

Jon Sidway  07:46

disappears.

Nestor J. Aparicio  07:47

8

You have any fruitcake here? We do. I don’t want it

Jon Sidway  07:51

right over here. My

Nestor J. Aparicio  07:53

mother used to get that Claxton

Derek Frazier  07:57

and then Bakery has their own wax and

8

Nestor J. Aparicio  07:59

I mean, no offense, y’all. But I mean, fruitcake is acquired taste. It is yeah, I mean, I’m not

Derek Frazier  08:05

it’s an old generation. I would say just like back in the day head cheese. Do you remember hearing or sass? It was like a rubber ball limber. Yeah. All mixed together. You could bounce it on the ground. We’ll come right back to you. But that was the old generation back in the 50s and 60s people ate that it just was everything that was leftover was put in a gel. I

Nestor J. Aparicio  08:24

don’t need much man just give me give me a stuffed shrimp like this. Give me some eggnog throw a ham on them give me a kill Boston sauerkraut. This is that see? See this is this will be like a few of my favorite things right? If you got this Ben you got all you need right here to go holiday. Ham but yeah, the other night. So my wife and I you know we we cook in our place. And I’ll bring the ham home. And it’s just the two of us. My son and his wife may come over sometimes they ought not to. Sometimes they’re with her mother. And so we have all of this food I cook like I’m cooking for a family and I’m not right and we have this much leftover sour because my wife does not want to be flatulent so I have to eat all of this over five days. In addition to the ham in addition to the leftover mashed potatoes corn. Like all of this stuff, I’ve got to eat right but the ham never goes to waste and this is the beauty of the rewards reward points. Yes. You say free him I’m like, You mean 18 pounds 12 pounds, or whatever

Derek Frazier  09:29

8

you can buy this the biggest thing

Nestor J. Aparicio  09:31

so I back a truck up and I saw I tried to get the biggest sand because my wife makes the most delicious soups, and it’s the aftermath of Christmas for me with a split pea soup with a navy bean soup and Allama bean soup with a ham that keeps giving will break that that soup out and February March is you freeze it to free chips in bags. Yes. So Christmas for us is an entire like experience. What do you sell the most of what’s the thing in here? That’s the Christmas item that People in White Marsh what a half

Derek Frazier  10:02

White Marsh want to have, you know, the things that we just talked about is you know, we don’t run out we make sure we get with our suppliers and making sure that we have all the proper stuff to make sure we supply

Nestor J. Aparicio  10:12

screw up and I come in here Saturday afternoon you’re gonna have que pasa from Yep. 100% Yeah, yes. All right because I’m I’ve

8

Derek Frazier  10:23

got it in your hand right now.

Jon Sidway  10:26

Yeah, yes, you can come in Sunday we’ll have we will have it. You’ll

Nestor J. Aparicio  10:32

see this and here’s what she’s gonna say. She’s like, tell them the wrap that up and take it home and you eat it all week. And when Christmas comes you don’t have to

Derek Frazier  10:41

8

say you’re sick of it. We leftover

Jon Sidway  10:44

to make the houses one

Nestor J. Aparicio  10:47

plate of this and I swear to you when John Martin sits down, I’m going to have another one. And another one and another one. Boston sauerkraut like I’m Polish

Derek Frazier  10:56

There you go.

8

Nestor J. Aparicio  11:25

8

I’ll put you on the spot now what are all the holiday brands? rememberable

Derek Frazier  11:28

I don’t remember them all. But I do have all my phone is seen as sugar cookie. Okay, I peppermint stick.

Nestor J. Aparicio  11:33

Peppermint Stick Okay, quarterback crunch.

Derek Frazier  11:35

Yep. Quarterback crunch. It’s not a that’s not a it’s not a holiday, but it is one of their feature items.

8

Nestor J. Aparicio  11:42

It is a holiday because the ravens are playing a 40 Niners

Derek Frazier  11:46

so it is what was I don’t remember you remember the one. They just came out? Well, we already said

Nestor J. Aparicio  11:55

that you said that. Herman eggnog

Jon Sidway  11:58

8

the peppermint is if you haven’t seen a cookie and the peppermint it’s very easy. If you like peppermint midnight,

Derek Frazier  12:02

like it. Midnight sled, right. Oh, I

Nestor J. Aparicio  12:06

know what that is. And so it’s a little m&m kind of guys. And yeah, it’s made it a little bit too. Yes. Say that. I got that last year. That was delicious. It was good. It’s kind of like banana split. It sounds like it might have a little bit too much in it. But it was it’s really good. Here’s where we’re we can have a real debate and the wise markets folks they’re all beautiful people from Central Pennsylvania. I had Hannah and several of the other internal wise market Central Pennsylvania people on and we had this ice cream debate and they educated me about

Derek Frazier  12:39

tea berry tea berries good never ate them but

8

Nestor J. Aparicio  12:42

I heard about no you don’t know it’s good. Then hears you hear things you hear opinions. So T Berry is controversial. Okay. I didn’t know what it was. If I said to you in Las Vegas, John T Berry. You’re like, it tastes like Earl Grey tea or like a green tea. I love green tea ice cream, by the way. I love it. But so I thought maybe I’ll like it. And I had a couple of segments and I went and bought it. $2.99 not a huge investment. Nice half gallon. Take it home. It’s pink.

Derek Frazier  13:15

Yes. Okay. Painters purple kinda.

Nestor J. Aparicio  13:18

It looks like Pepto Bismol. Okay. Looks like and here’s the really wild part of it. My wife and I had at home we were going to make a big stick about it on the air because I was doing segments and we both got a spoon. We went in on it. And we put them out full big ol mess because I’m a teenager. I don’t know what it is. It’s ice cream. How bad can it be? Don’t screw up ice cream. Always creams. Good. Can we agree with that? Yes. I mean, come on. They don’t make it. Even lime ice cream probably has. I don’t know. I don’t like key lime, but sweet. Both had a bite. Like it tastes like Pepto Bismol and she tastes just like Pepto Bismol

Jon Sidway  13:55

8

I probably love it. Then.

Nestor J. Aparicio  13:56

I take the point. I’m like, Hey, nobody making Pepto Bismol you it’s because it’s pink. And it looks like Pepto Bismol that it tastes like Pepto Bismol so take another bite. This little like Pepto Bismol but I’m like what’s it really tastes like? You’re

Derek Frazier  14:10

trying to find that. Right? It’s birch beer.

Jon Sidway  14:15

Bears beer tastes like window green to me. So maybe. Yeah, that’s the bait right there. Yeah, it’s birch beer.

Nestor J. Aparicio  14:23

Well as a shift supervisor, spend the $2.99 using employee discount, use your reward points on it and just do it with the staff here. Alright. Get it open a T Berry, because it’s seasonal and it’s so central Pennsylvania, but I am convinced it’s birch beer. What I think it is

Jon Sidway  14:43

it’s a white birch beer or the regular birch beer because we could just grab some birch beer off the shelf too and do a side by side comparison. If you really want to see if that’s what it is.

Nestor J. Aparicio  14:51

I your winter fresh winter mint. Like thought of that is really what T Berry is. So I know that it’s Explain it to anybody because I’ve never met anybody that if I say birch beer to some people they don’t even know that flavor profile right because it’s perched yourself with beards different funky gear right but you have to change it to know the funk, right? Yeah, spirits see berries. Something like nobody’s ever gone to an ice cream scoop shop in Maryland, Pennsylvania wise. Okay. But like all the girls in wise new T Berry and I’m like, I wanted because I like variety. I wanted to try something different. If you had some fruitcake that didn’t wasn’t that other I might try it. I might not like but I’m willing to try anything outside of like, I’m not doing liver okay, I’m

Jon Sidway  15:38

8

not doing either gonna deliver on your

Nestor J. Aparicio  15:40

cheese head or whatever the head cheese

Derek Frazier  15:44

sales don’t

Nestor J. Aparicio  15:45

smell good. I probably not gonna like but the teaberry ice cream. I’ll be honest with you. I ate one bite and I said Pepto Bismol and I finished half to half gallon because I was sort of liking it. Yeah. Yeah, you had to dig into it a little bit sort of like your Boston sauerkraut if you’ve never done it before.

8

Derek Frazier  16:00

Certain people don’t like to count. So crown. The mountain lottery puts

Nestor J. Aparicio  16:04

us out on the road. John Martin is here he’s wondering what have I done? They have crabcakes they have stuffed shrimp. He’s eating this cabbage with his sausage and he’s got the eggnog out here it’s all brought to you by our friends and when donation 866 90 nation I’ve been giving away the the minimum a lot of scratches the peppermint payouts they don’t smell too much like pepper they are but these these ginger smells they do they smell just like gingerbread. The unwrapped cash prizes here. We’ve been giving away some winners. We had some winners last week. Last couple of weeks. We’ve taken the crab cake tour everywhere this is this is our last crab cake tour stop before Christmas. Okay, we’re gonna be fadeless next Wednesday. We have an eggnog stop. I have I have co Boston sauerkraut. This was a show about doing wrestlers. We have all my favorite things here. Including oiler fans. Oh, dude, I grew up in oiler fan like you wouldn’t believe like, if I opened my eBay right now. I collect to three things in the world. I collect Pacific belt buckles, of which I’m wearing one right now this is my I wore this for you because your Dundalk Van Halen today. Because that’s what I felt we were but I also collect Euler stuff. Because I was an original Euler fan in the 70s. I got my first Euler ski cap at the Sears outlet on merit Boulevard, right behind where they are the IHOP is Yeah, so I’ve been an Euler fan my whole life. And I always like check to see almost bought a bump Phillips had at one point. But everything when the Euler on the Euler eBay page has sort of blown up because all of its like new again. So like, Do you know how bad that I want? That Derrick jacket that started? That’s a jacket right

Derek Frazier  17:41

school, right?

Nestor J. Aparicio  17:42

8

So and it’s only 69 bucks right now because they’re making it all again? Yeah, so like the real vintage stuff that says Houston on it. That’s older and is a little more expensive. The thing that blew me away about the game. They played sports three months ago as the Oilers. I didn’t like it, then I think it’s really Slappy to the Houston people. I’m an old Baltimore Colts guy, right. So it pisses me off when I see those jerseys open in the wounds. Yes. And I thought that that was unfair, and I thought it was wrong for them to do it. It’s a beautiful jersey. The thing that’s weird for me and you’re a Titans fan, John. Yep. How many of the people in the stadium bought Euler stuff? Were wearing it. It’s like remember the Steelers had there’s prison uniforms? Yes, they were wearing Bumblebee. Yeah. It looked like striper in the 80s plain American they

Derek Frazier  18:32

look like bumblebees out in the field.

Nestor J. Aparicio  18:33

They look like the killer bees yes so so the the thing that blew me away is every time they would kick the ball in Tennessee. It look not just the markings for Oilers on the field see in the endzone powder blue see people in the stands were wearing Warren moons Jersey and I thought to all with

Jon Sidway  18:54

you people. Hey, we get the stance. It’s in our franchise stats it it counts for us. You

Nestor J. Aparicio  19:00

lost and I’m gonna be honest, it was deserved. I’ve worn worn Euler stuff proudly. All my life. I’ve worn it even when the Ravens existed because they there they were. They were funkified they were over with right I mean there’s the funked so like wearing an order thing isn’t offensive to a Ravens fan. I grew up liking them now they brought it back to life and I it’s a Titans Mark Benet. Yeah, I’m not a fan. I’m a fan of a defunct franchise right? Some do you have anything you want to say on this? Are you Oh no,

Jon Sidway  19:32

I don’t I haven’t gotten any of the throwback stuff yet but you thinking about it. i It’s very appealing. It’s very nice throwback jerseys. They are great. The color scheme is great.

Nestor J. Aparicio  19:43

jacket that’s very nice. You will but

Jon Sidway  19:47

8

you’d have to throw a Tennessee Oilers on it just to make it really makes

Nestor J. Aparicio  19:51

it on except because I only have purple lottery tickets. Derek good luck with your junior when you get back in

Derek Frazier  19:57

the ring. never stayed here. why’s one ad?

Nestor J. Aparicio  20:01

The craziest thing is while we’re here, we can always crabcakes yourself. One of your fans comes

8

Derek Frazier  20:06

back. Of course, there’s somebody on the radio 40 years

Nestor J. Aparicio  20:10

they don’t know me. They’re like we get back in the ring. Derek, how’s the ankle has a leg last I saw was dangling. Right? That was 17 years ago. Do just

Derek Frazier  20:23

let it go. You know, I did wrestle right before the pandemic. I did a farewell thing in 2019 to win or lose was no contest on my radar and a few DQ

Nestor J. Aparicio  20:35

8

because you’re a bad guy. And I was faced

Derek Frazier  20:38

with the brass knuckles. I was a face I was the good guy. All right, and then I wrestled February 2020. And that was booked the wrestle one more match because I told him I do three matches. March 15 When did the pandemic break loose was gonna wait from March 4 Yes. Yeah, they took it away. Yep. Because that’s when all chaotic movie canceled your wrestling? Yes. And honestly, I’m I’m happy with that I’m fine. You know, entertaining the people here wise markets and the customers here in the community and doing a lot of community functions with the kids around here and the neighborhood

Nestor J. Aparicio  21:14

All right, well, I’m gonna take a break. John A pleasure. You know, good luck to the tight Oilers whatever there has been a lot of luck this never the Raiders. Derek’s over here at the hunico wise he has lottery tickets for sale I haven’t for giveaway today. We are brought to you by the Maryland lottery conjunction with our friends at when donation 866 90 nation you buy two and you get two free 0% financing for five years and if you’re nice they may give you a floppy hat just like this. Our friends at Jiffy Lube a multi care I my little orange lights on. It’s true. I got a great moral change for the holidays. made even better by the kielbasa and sauerkraut and the delicious crab cakes in the signature crab cake here at wise markets. John Martin is going to be my last victim before the holidays Christmas, the executive director of all things Maryland lottery and gaming is here. He is examining all the lottery tickets in the machines here. He actually lives in the neighborhood so it’s a little bit of always always checking John, did you kill Boston sauerkraut in Ohio or No? No. Your bet he’s looking at that. All right, John Martin, join us next. On the way out I want to do some it’s wrestling oriented. Okay. We do two claps and Ric Flair.

Jon Sidway  22:22

Sure already.

Nestor J. Aparicio  22:25

Back for more from wise markets right after this.
