Anytime we can bring our favorite baseball folks together to discuss the state of the game in the fall as the playoffs begin and the leaves change, we’re thrilled. We loved having former MLB outfielder and Towson Tigers alum Casper Wells talking seams with our longtime baseball insider Allen McCallum to debate the Orioles state of the franchise and another gloomy MLB offseason labor mess at State Fare on the Maryland Crab Cake Tour.

It’s the end of a long season and the Pete Alonso performance in Queens this week was as bizarre as anything Luke Jones and Nestor have seen in Major League Baseball. This season is about to fade away but before it does, we’re here to try to figure out where it goes after next weekend…

With the Baltimore Orioles circling the drain the next two weeks and then watching the postseason once again from the outside, Luke Jones and Nestor begin to wave goodbye to any reality of a normal offseason in Birdland or anywhere MLB is played with the pending offseason labor war. The decisions about everything will fall to owners David Rubenstein and Michael Arougheti, who have proven hapless and feckless thus far in accountability regarding Mike Elias and the fans paying the freight. Baseball fans here are watching…

A new coach. A failed trade. The loss of some key players, including center Tyler Linderbaum. It’s been three months of action and reaction but are the Baltimore Ravens improving this offseason? Luke Jones and Nestor reset the turbulent offseason of general manager Eric DeCosta as the NFL Draft approaches in Pittsburgh on April 23rd.

The Baltimore Ravens sorely lacked a pass rush last season but the addition of Maxx Crosby should solve that deficiency. No one is more bullish on the star edge rusher acquired from the Las Vegas Raiders than his former defensive coach Marvin Lewis, who joins Nestor to discuss what Ravens fans can expect before the crack of dawn in Owings Mills. “You can set your watch by Maxx.”
By Wednesday morning before the NFL free agency deadline, Eric DeCosta opted to sign Trey Hendrickson but it was four days with the thoughts of having Maxx Crosby that energized the Baltimore Ravens’ fan base right up until an Owings Mills medical nixed the deal. Luke Jones and Nestor discuss the debacle of Maxx Crosby deal for trust amongst players and agents and teams with the Ravens and DeCosta.

The end of the season came with a thud in Pittsburgh as rookie kicker Tyler Loop’s 44-yard field goal sailed wide right and the Baltimore Ravens now move into an 8-9 season with a myriad of questions about the future of leadership. Luke Jones and Nestor discuss the 26-24 loss to the Steelers and what comes next for John Harbaugh, Steve Biscotti and an organization that disappointed the NFL world in 2025.

It’s such a significant game because it will define what has been a confounding, deflating and defeated season for the Baltimore Ravens. After a 1-5 start, fumbles and mistakes and blown defenses – not to mention an injured version of Lamar Jackson for much of the season – John Harbaugh and the men in purple have a chance to fix it all in Pittsburgh. Luke Jones and Nestor discuss what happens if they’re not discussing a playoff game in Baltimore next weekend.

Sure, we kid our pal Mark Mussina about his lifelong loyalty to the Dallas Cowboys but we’re all guilty of being addicted to a team without consequences or, in some cases, any joy at all. Good times, bad times you know we’ve had our share but our favorite brother of a Hall of Famer returns to discuss poor ownership and the self-inflicted obligation of fan support even when you know it’s hopeless.
We are loving these offseason baseball conversations but will the Hot Stove heat up enough to energize the Baltimore Orioles fan base for the first time in a generation? Time will tell. Ron Cassie of Baltimore Magazine joins Luke Jones and Nestor for a Baltimore baseball offseason primer of hopes and possibilities for David Rubenstein and Michael Arougheti to step up and into the big leagues of MLB payroll.

It’s a new season and a new school year at Coppin State University where head coach Larry Stewart is getting a whole new cast of student athletes assembled to play in the MEAC. He joined Nestor at The Beaumount in Catonsville on the Maryland Crab Cake Tour to talk NIL and modern college basketball recruiting realities that are different than when Fang Mitchell brought him to West Baltimore 39 years ago.

The Orioles haven’t had a lot of good months this season but September has begun with some good news. Nestor Aparicio and Luke Jones discuss the Birds’ recent improvement – including five walk-off wins. The Dylan Beavers’ impressive start combined with the solid return of Kyle Bradish and Tyler Wells to the starting rotation looms large for 2026 hopes in the spring.

We’re not sure how much is too much disgust in regard to the Baltimore Orioles. Here’s an idea: fire Mike Elias and start over! Luke Jones and Nestor kinda disagree on this topic. If you love baseball, you should tell your friends about our intelligent, spirited and passionate debates.

No one should be shocked by the deadline deals of Mike Elias but fans of the Baltimore Orioles are certainly within reason wondering what the grand plan looks like to compete in 2026. Luke Jones and Nestor discuss the large sell off of nine MLB players at trade deadline in exchange for 16 prospects. It’s going to be a long, last-place offseason in Birdland to rebuild the pitching.

It’s getting late kinda early this spring as the Baltimore Orioles have provided an April thud. Our venerable Birdland (former) insider Allen McCallum joins Nestor for their 30th anniversary season of talking baseball, ownership, payroll and some wisdom on the importance of pitching.

It’s always time well spent on the Maryland Crab Cake Tour talking rock music, Orioles baseball and his business as a lifelong NFL player agent with Chad Wiestling, who lives here in Baltimore but will be in Green Bay with his client and superstar running back Josh Jacobs all weekend. Lots of football knowledge in this one…

If Eric DeCosta could’ve scripted the Baltimore Ravens’ goals and expectations in NFL free agency, it couldn’t have gone any better. Luke Jones joins Nestor to discuss Ronnie Stanley, DeAndre Hopkins, Mark Andrews, Ben Cleveland and the always expanding “zero tolerance” policy of John Harbaugh in Owings Mills as the April 24th draft appears on the horizon.
