WNST and Baltimore Positive founder Nestor Aparicio was invited onto “The You Matter Podcast” by his longtime media friend, Mark “The Blade” Brodinsky. The question: “What can you do to be the very best version of you every day and live the life you were meant to live?”
On March 20th of this year, it’ll be ten years since Jennifer Aparicio was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia that was later traced back to her work as a project engineer in telecom at 9/11 and the World Trade Center in New York City. As she fought for her life and awaited the first of two bone marrow transplants from a miracle German man who saved her life, our WNST community rallied to get swabbed for the bone marrow registry and the local charity There Goes My Hero. Jenn is alive and well and visited with her DNA twin Niels in Europe recently for NFL football in Franfurt. Meanwhile, we remain incredibly grateful for the support of our community here at WNST Baltimore Positive that kept her spirits high and hopes alive during her gruesome battle. Hug the people you love!
Even though this is further down the list, it might be the greatest thing we’ve ever done. When Jennifer Ford Aparicio was diagnosed with leukemia in March 2014 and survived that summer watching baseball, Nestor was inspired to live out a dream and make it matter. And the 30-30 MLB Give A Spit Tour was born. In June and July of 2015, the couple swabbed for the bone marrow registry in 18 ballparks, swabbing thousands of baseball fans over 30 days and even made it Cooperstown. No rainouts, one passport forgotten, many celebrities and wonderful friends we visited and made along the way on behalf of There Goes My Hero.

Covering the Ravens is all I’ve ever done professionally since the team arrived in Baltimore in 1996, and this is how I feed my family and pay my bills as a small local business and AM 1570 radio operator and entrepreneur.
The 20th day of the Maryland Crab Cake Tour presented by The Maryland Lottery, Goodwill, Window Nation and the Restaurant Association of Maryland we managed to pick up a legendary Angelina’s crab cake from a secret shipping location on Kent Island and a delicious beer at Ten Eyck Brewing in Queenstown.
The fourteenth day of the Maryland Crab Cake Tour presented by The Maryland Lottery, Goodwill, Window Nation and the Restaurant Association of Maryland featured an eastside “stay at home” tour for Nestor, who grew up in Dundalk and frequented Highlandtown and Essex all of his childhood. Loved taking the kids to Monument in the city and Schultz’s Crab House down toward Hawthorne. We’ll be back. Often!
The ninth day of the Maryland Crab Cake Tour presented by The Maryland Lottery, Goodwill, Window Nation and the Restaurant Association of Maryland featured a morning drive around Deep Creek Lake and an adventure north through the rolling hills of Pennsylvania past Ohiopyle, Falling Water and on to bucolic Latrobe to watch the Pittsburgh Steelers participate in one of the final old-school training camp days still remaining in the NFL.
The fourth day of the Maryland Crab Cake Tour presented by The Maryland Lottery, Goodwill, Window Nation and the Restaurant Association of Maryland featured a full show afternoon at Full Moon Pub in Reisterstown with great guests and a post-yoga beer at B.C. Brewery in Hunt Valley on a stormy night of open mic.
The only thing “gold” in his closet is the new Royal Farms “Chickenpalooza” shirt so Nestor wore it to Latrobe on a bucket list trip to see Pittsburgh Steelers training camp behind enemy lines with old friends.
