A New Year, a new career?

Yvette Diamond tells Nestor about the new Maryland Apprenticeship Connector and ways local employers are partnering

Dropping new games and lots of cash in the New Year

John Martin tells Nestor about the newest games and big winners early in the New Year and explains the history of Powerball and Mega Millions jackpot games. Oh, and those lucky Ravens scratch-off winners who might be going to the AFC Championship Game to pass for Maryland Lottery cash.

Lots of tough decisions for Harbs before Steelers arrive for a strange one

The Baltimore Ravens are in the best position in the entire NFL playoff tournament. But the playing-for-their-lives Pittsburgh Steelers are coming to town with a quarterback controversy and a real reason to win. Meanwhile, Luke Jones and Nestor discuss the waiting and the hardest part of Steelers Week with nothing on the line and who will play in the rain and snow on Saturday afternoon.

And now, the Ravens rest, regroup, repair and get ready for January 20th

Luke Jones and Nestor fete the dominant AFC top seeded Baltimore Ravens on a regular season for the ages after a 56-19 dismantling of the Miami Dolphins to earn three weeks of time to get ready for the next game that counts. One win away from bringing an AFC Championship Game to Baltimore for the first time since 1971.

WNST STORY OF GLORY No. 17 – That crazy playoff night in Nashville with Steve McNair and Ravens fans for charity

If you ever bump into Nestor and want one of the wilder stories of his journey, ask him about the night he did a charity event with Steve McNair in Nashville. We took several busloads and planeloads of Ravens fans to Nashville several times. The 2001 playoff party was legendary but it was in January 2009 when the former Oilers, Titans and Ravens quarterback came to Limelight to greet a sea of purple. And then we threw a party. The videos tell the story better than we ever could. Especially that poor taxi driver…

Pondering a Festivus for the rest of us – even Joe Flacco

With the Baltimore Ravens riding high as the No. 1 team in everyone’s Power Rankings, Luke Jones and Nestor ponder the possibilities of a January Festivus that might even include the unlikely return of Joseph Vincent Flacco navigating the Cleveland Browns

A holiday and New Year that begins hangover free

Our Chief Cannabis Officer Wendy Bronfein of Curio Wellness joins Nestor to ring in the revelry and relaxation of the first New Year of adult-use in Maryland without the hangover. Let’s make 2024 the best year ever!

WNST STORY OF GLORY No. 18 – Our Give A Spit 30 MLB Ballparks in 30 Days Marathon

Even though this is further down the list, it might be the greatest thing we’ve ever done. When Jennifer Ford Aparicio was diagnosed with leukemia in March 2014 and survived that summer watching baseball, Nestor was inspired to live out a dream and make it matter. And the 30-30 MLB Give A Spit Tour was born. In June and July of 2015, the couple swabbed for the bone marrow registry in 18 ballparks, swabbing thousands of baseball fans over 30 days and even made it Cooperstown. No rainouts, one passport forgotten, many celebrities and wonderful friends we visited and made along the way on behalf of There Goes My Hero.

The Christmas night when the Baltimore Ravens became Super Bowl favorites

It was as impressive an effort as any in Ravens’ history. Five interceptions, almost flawless offense and a holiday win to make Santa Claus proud. Luke Jones and Nestor recap a glorious Christmas effort by Ravens in beating 49ers 33-19 in Santa Clara behind the art of Lamar Jackson and a defensive gem in befuddling Niners quarterback Brock Purdy.

WNST STORY OF GLORY No. 20 – The legacy of the Baltimore Colts and Indianapolis

It’s complicated – and always will be, the Colts thing in Baltimore for anyone who was alive in 1984. Over a quarter of a century it’s never been ignored but back in 2011 at the Indianapolis Super Bowl, Nestor finally put down the sword and the horseshoe for his mental health writing a letter to the citizens of Indiana that got nearly a million views during Radio Row week. But it didn’t come without raising a whole lotta hell for a quarter of a century.

WNST STORY OF GLORY No. 21 – The night we took ‘Wild’ Bill Hagy to Orioles-Phillies game at Camden Yards

On June 28, 2002, Nestor Aparicio led a return to Oriole Park at Camden Yards by the franchise’s biggest fan and larger-than-life Dundalk cab driver “Wild” Bill Hagy, who was an avid WNST listener. Sex, Christmas, crabs and the Baltimore accent with the legendary John Waters

We always wanted to have Baltimore’s most famous worldwide export on the show but were afraid to ask. In advance of his “A John Waters Christmas: Let’s Blow It Up!” at Baltimore SoundStage on December 21st, the Pope Of Trash comes home to Nestor to dish on holiday etiquette and why he loves soft shell crabs and still being on stage with an audience.

Trying to understand the facts about new Orioles lease at Camden Yards

As the ink was drying on the new Maryland Stadium Authority deal with John Angelos and the Baltimore Orioles, former MSA chairman Tom Kelso joins Nestor for a primer on a new stadium deal at Camden Yards and what it means for the fans, the citizens and the team. A compelling stop on the Maryland Crab Cake Tour for the holidays at Weis Markets at Honeygo in Perry Hall.

Coming clean on one of the best things I’ve ever eaten

The Maryland Crab Cake Tour was well plotted at Far & Dotter and knew we needed to import a crab cake. This was a chance to finally bring Jerry and Erin Schlichting on the show and eat their famous Clean Cuisine ‘cake but to tell the story about the soon-to-be-famous and award-winning turkey butternut squash lasagna that is better than it sounds and tastier than almost anything on the planet.

Serving gratitude and holiday peace of mind with our football

Putting the local HEX on the stink and odor in your sweaty athletic gear

In an effort to get the stench out of his rancid hot yoga gear, Nestor found a laundry product that was produced right here in Baltimore. Then, he set out to find HEX founder Drew Westervelt, who joined him at Far & Dotter in Timonium on the Maryland Crab Cake Tour to tell the rest of an amazing science, sports and a determination detergent trail from lacrosse laundry to stinky hot yoga gear and getting it really clean.

Holiday winners and the scents of the season

With the Maryland Crab Cake Tour doing a tasty holiday stop at Weis Markets at Honeygo, it was a great chance to visit with Maryland Lottery Executive Director John Martin to discuss all of the games of the season and stocking stuffer do’s and dont’s as Santa is bringing winnings and the scent of gingerbread to the season.

A holiday bonus and stocking stuffer for grownups

Seth Elkin of The Maryland Lottery discuss holiday promotions and football fun with Nestor, who continues to debate the scented gingerbread and peppermint scratch-offs he’s been gifting during the Maryland Crab Cake Tour this month.

Tying up the loose ends of important family business during the holidays

It’s never easy and always awkward but the holidays are the only time some families gather to discuss the important stuff. Leonard Raskin tells us there’s a solution and real value in planning and using together time to make sure that 2024 is the best year ever for everyone’s peace of mind.

Making the holiday spirits bright with kielbasa and sauerkraut

We know it’s the Maryland Crab Cake Tour but Derek Frazier and Jon Sidway of Weis Markets at Honeygo in Perry Hall got Nestor distracted when the Ostroski’s delicacy arrived on the set. Wrestling with the holidays, food and family is made easier with a free Rewards ham and plenty of egg nog and good cheer. And those stuffed shrimp with the signature crab cakes!

A lifetime of Schock and awe in banging the drums deserves pain relief

The Maryland Crab Cake Tour hosted a special holiday edition of the show at Far & Dotter with our favorite Dundalk Rock And Rock Hall of Famer Gina Schock of The Go-Go’s joined by Curio Wellness Chief Brand Officer Wendy Bronfein to rock a great chat about the benefits of pain relief. The Maryland Crab Cake Tour brought a spirited holiday edition of the show to Far & Dotter in Timonium with Dundalk drummer and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Gina Schock of The Go-Go’s joined by Curio founder Michael Bronfein and daughter Wendy Bronfein discussing how a once pharmaceutical family drummed its way into the cannabis wellness business in Maryland. (We loved this one!)

Discussing the future of Camden Yards with an expert

The second part of our extensive holiday chat with former Maryland Stadium Authority chairman Tom Kelso continued with a discussion about the future of downtown stadia and growth for Baltimore and what the new lease means for the Orioles, Ravens and the downtown area. No one in local media has discussed this $1.2 billion investment more thoroughly, candidly and accurately than we have and provided the information for citizens. This is important stuff for sports fans and citizens who are funding billionaires for franchises.

Thinking about an AI starter kit for the holidays?

As our Chief Technology Officer Mike Rosenfeld of Web Connection is always looking to push a very willing Nestor in a new tech direction, here’s some AI intelligence for your stocking stuffer and the usual football conversation of hope for the holidays.

So, what exactly is my famous “family” vegan crab cake at Gertrude’s?

It took us a few years but we always wanted to try this vegan crab cake at Gertrude’s at The Baltimore Museum of Art with 14th District Councilwoman Odette Ramos, who has bragged about the legend of this delectable alternative made by chef John Shields. Then, we found out that Nestor is related to him and a Smalltimore holiday moment occurred over zucchini and vegan family love.

For the first time ever, adults can gift cannabis for Christmas

Yes, it’s true and legal for adult use but as Curio Wellness Chief Brand Officer Wendy Bronfein tells Nestor: go slow and think through some lovely therapeutic and healing options for the holiday season. Dr. Tim Tooten is no stranger to Baltimore citizens. The longtime education reporter at WBAL-TV and pastor of Harvest Christian Ministries joined us during the early days of COVID in June 2020 to tell us about his journey from the Suwannee River near Gainesville, Florida to Baltimore and what he has learned about people. Seven hundred million reasons baseball ain’t hurting

Lamar continues to prove the doubters wrong

Even though it was the special teams play by Tylan Wallace that beat the Rams, it’s very clear that Lamar Jackson is doing different and better things with the passing game in the offense of Todd Monken. Will it be enough to win the Super Bowl? Luke Jones and Nestor discuss the maturation of the game of No. 8 after another win, a 10-3 record and top spot in AFC as the egg nog chills.

What are Orioles really capable and willing to do to improve this offseason?

With the Major League Baseball Winter Meetings in full swing in Nashville, Luke Jones and Nestor wonder what John Angelos and the Orioles offseason intentions really are beyond the franchise maximizing lease leverage against Governor Wes Moore and the citizens of Maryland and the fans who have supported the team.
